Don't miss the return of MAP WOMEN at the beginning! Shakespeare is certainly one of, if not the most important writers in the English language. And his home town of the quaint, beautiful, historic Stratford-upon-Avon is as original and stunning as one of his sonnets. This video shows us all the fascinating and unique things to do in Stratford-upon-Avon and we loved it! This should definitely be on everyone's travel list when visiting the United Kingdom! You really need to review a British seaside town. Stay away from the obvious Blackpool type places and perhaps take a look at the Suffolk coastal places - they're a bit London-y but not offensively so. Thanks guys 👍

I second that! Warwick Castle is one of the best preserved Castles in England, and if you are lucky you could catch a medieval fair in its grounds like I did! Also, Stratford is one of my favourite towns. You can just wander around the place admiring the architecture, the river, surrounded by well-preserved history. The whole atmosphere, in fact, is really special.

Natasha asked ‘What’s that?’, referring to a building seen from the river. It’s the side of the RSC theatre, with a lovely terrace overlooking the Avon. I live just 30 miles from Stratford and have been there, and to the RSC, many times, but I discovered quite a bit that I didn’t know from the video. There are some lovely shops in Stratford, and it is indeed close to the Cotswolds, and to Warwick, where there is an incredible 12th century castle. It’s not an area to be covered in a day trip as there is just too much to see and do. Get yourselves over here, ladies!

The Cotswolds is so gorgeous like a model village but as real as you can get. I have been there twice and it stole my heart, I remember all of it. I want to visit there many times in the future as I come from an industrial town 7 miles from Central Manchester. My town is very nice (Stalybridge) with a canal running through it but the Cotswolds is utterly beautiful.

My ancestors were Shakespeare's mum's family..the Ardens, also have a posher ancestor who did not like Shakespeare when he came to London, he said he was building a theatre in Blackfriars on the river where she lived, and she told him to buzz off cos she did not want the riff-raff around her house, so he ended up building the Globe down the river at the South Bank instead 😏Been on the boats on the Avon, so lovely. I first went to Stratford in 1979, a friend and I were hitch hiking to Cornwall, bottom left on the map, and stopped of at a youth Hostel in Stratford, there was so much to see, we decided to stay for three nights, the maximum allowed then in the Hostel. We then returned to Leeds where we lived at that time after getting a good education on Shakespeare and family. Ten years later I took my mother and sister to have a weekend in a pub on the outskirts of the town, they loved it. Keep the show coming, it's both enjoyable and interesting. Love from deepest Derbyshire. xx

I know Natasha is Shakespeare nerd, however there are so many other cool things to see in Stratford, than Shakespeare. Like the Stratford butterfly farm, where you can see fabulous butterflies (my favourite place when we visited in Stratford) or the 1940's style tearoom Fourteas Tea-room Brasserie etc. You can also find famous actress Vivien Leigh's memorial stone in the park along the river. It is such lovely town, but often other interesting things are left in the shadow of Shakespeare, even though they also deserve to be mentioned.

You must go to the globe theatre in London where Shakespeare plays would of been preformed. Latin would of been used in teaching before old English was in print. Yes in my school i was form captain if you go to a good older established school they use the old form system. another famous woman writer that we all know is Agatha Christy. who lived in Wallingford Oxfordshire not to far away. and very close to the Cotswolds you can do this in a drive in one day. The population of the area is around is around 31000 people and Stratford upon avon is also on the river Thames so its all connectable , Merc- Jean-Marc

My x3 great grandparents lived a few doors down from Shakespeare's birthplace in Stratford and appear to have been living there when the house was saved from demolition by Charles Dickens (amongst others). When the house was put up for sale, the showman PT Barnum wanted to ship it, brick by brick, to America. In response the Shakespeare Birthday Committee (later the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust) was formed with Charles Dickens as one of its initial members. The committee bought the house in 1847 for £3,000 after Dickens put on several performances to raise the necessary funds.

I saw Hamlet years later in my Hometown of Barrow in Furness many years later in 1992 when a travelling company performed it in a large warehouse. With big actors like Alan Rickman as Hamlet, Geraldine McEwan, Michael Byrne and others. Again the performance was FAB!

When you finally come to England and - of course - visit Stratford-upon-Avon don't miss seeing The Guildhall and Shakespeare's Schoolroom. Beautiful old guildhall built in 1418 to 1424. William Shakespeare attended King Edward VI school in the upstairs room. His father, John, was mayor of Stratford when the Guildhall became the town hall. You can see the building with one of the guides and have a lesson in the tudor classroom with Master Thomas Jenkins, who was Shakespeare's teacher (he's obviously VERY old, but still working!) You can also try writing with a real swan feather quill in the Georgian classroom. Most interesting place in town.

It's a very pretty town, and of course there are a lot of Shakespeare-related places to visit and things to do, for example the World of Shakespeare which covers Tudor era life, or the Royal Shakespeare Company theatre if you want to see his plays performed. My surname is Stratford, and my paternal Grandfather's family came from Warwickshire, so presumably, originally from Stratford-Upon-Avon itself, though so far we haven't managed to trace a direct ancestor to the town itself. We've traced back as far as 1808 and then lost the trail, though to that point all until my Dad and myself (leicestershire) were born in Warwickshire.

It was the timing that cracked me up, as you referenced the actress so soon after stating you were a massive Shakespeare nerd. I don’t know if the two Ann’s are distantly related? It was interesting watching Dame Judi Dench’s Who Do You Think You Are and discovering she was related to Shakespeare, so it came full circle as she first made her mark in his plays.

Stratford-upon-Avon is a beautiful place. You certainly need to visit there when you come over. Can I ask, what happened to Wednesday's video?

I read about the mattresses quite a long time ago, which was interesting. It's good to find out where old sayings come from. An enjoyable video, as always. Thank you.

It's beautiful, but usually crowded. The gateway to the Cotswolds. There is a bakery in Stratford that has been there since the 18th century and their Lardy Cake, is amazing - it's a bread.😂💗💗👵🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🌹🌹

Ladies, I believe you are visiting the UK next year and thus, I would advise you allow a few days to explore Stratford, as part of your tour of the Cotswolds, because the village is part of that gorgeous countryside, I know you are both so keen to visit. It might be more relaxing for you both to spend one night in Stratford, allowing you more time to chill. Shakespeare's Globe Theatre, built by American Actor Sam Wannamaker, is to be found on the South Bank of the River Thames and is well worth a visit!

When I went to Shakespeare's house I also learned that the saying "You got out of the wrong side of bed" comes from when toilets were outside so people had bed pans next to their beds. If you got out of the wrong side of bed, it wouldn't be a great start to your day 😂

And once again the Map Women light up our Friday woohoo. Just love your reactions to such a beautiful town, of which there are many, many more around the UK. Sides still aching from laughing so much at Natasha and her embarrassment over Anne Hathaway 🤣🤣. Just loved this and looking forward to many more Map Women. 😎😁🤩Love, hugs and prayers from Sussex, UK

I live in Warwickshire, about 18 miles from Stratford and to be honest I learnt a few things there myself. You do tend to take places for granted a little when they are on your doorstep. As well as Stratford being a great place to visit in itself, you could also use it as your base to explore the Cotswolds, as Stratford pretty much is the at the northern gateway to that area. Warmest wishes

Hello Natasha & Debbie, I came across this reaction video of yours. I grew up in this town, so I am very familiar with it all. I technically left when I was 17 to join the Royal Navy, but my family still live here. The town has changed alot since I left. I do visit my family their on a regular basis. Be warned in summer it gets very busy with all the tourists.

@TheNatashaDebbieShow Thank you. My dad used to row on the river their when he was at the grammer school. The rowing club is situated opposite the Bancroft gardens, which is by the theatre, and I worked on the passenger boats as a teenager and on narrowboats. In fact I am visiting in about 2 weeks' time. If you do come to this town not too far away, is Warwick, which has a castle you can visit, and I think you can catch a bus there.

Thankyou Natasha and Debbie. On my list of places yet to visit as a UK resident is Stratford upon Avon. I’ve always wanted to visit the Globe theatre. There is obviously a lot more to see and do for very reasonable prices so Thankyou for showing this. Can’t wait to find out where you visit when you come to the UK. I know you are staying for some time in Kent but I hope you get a chance to travel a little further. Lots of love, Sandra from Liverpool x

Love your reactions to stuff like this, always brings a smile to me to see your faces as you see the historical and beautiful things dotted around this oddly eclectic nation. Do keep the pointy finger, it made me laugh a couple of times as it waved into shot in a point of exclamation.

Nice video and I didn’t know the sayings resulting from the straw beds. I live 10mins away from Stratford, and my son went to school there and used the original classroom for Latin lessons. If you come over girls I’d be happy for you to stay and I’d show you round. We could go to the Cotswolds as well as I live very near there.

I’ve visited Stratford upon Avon, being English would be sacrilege not to, but again you American ladies have taught me something. Didn’t know the origins of ‘hit the hay’ and ‘sleep tight’. The Garrick Inn is quite old, but my local inn, below Nottingham castle, can trump it. Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem was built in 1189! Sorry, couldn’t resist just slipping that fact in. Another great informative video. Thanks ladies.
