American Couple Reacts/Tries: British Snacks & Drinks! PART 4! FIRST TIME! Some US/UK Comparisons! Welcome to Part 4 of our British snacks and drink series! If you have missed any, there's an entire playlist with all of them and future ones. This was a fun one!! We LOVE doing taste tests and trying out new foods, drinks and snacks. In this one we even compared British Fanta to American Fanta. British Bounty bar to American Mounds bar. We tried Real British Cheddar for the first time ever and something that has been a real fear of Natasha's for a while; must watch to see. There's a lot in this episode and we hope you enjoy our honest reviews/opinions on what we tasted. It really was a lot of fun! Find out which we loved and which we definitely won't try again. Another awesome reaction girls!! I never liked Fanta but that English one definitely looked like Tang!! Tang was available in Australia in the '70s. Powdery and artificial. The ads said it was used by the astronauts in space!! Don't know how true that was!! It's interesting to see English foods for me as I was born in England but I have been in Australia since I was Three!!

Hello Ladies. I really love your reactions to our confectionery and savouries. I think you are very brave tackling the unknown as once in your mouth like it or not you just have to suffer or enjoy!! Personally there wasn't very much that I particularly like except the Aero which I just love to let the choc melt on my tongue. I find much of confectionary far too bland and sickly compared to years ago. I'm sorry to say to two lovely American ladies that our chocolate, biscuits and cakes tasted much better before American companies bought out our British manufacturers. Bounty bars were bigger, chunkier and the coconut filling rather like yours. As for the cheese and pickle I'd like to give you 10 out of 10 for your bravery as I hate pickle chutney and strong cheese so for me I give it a big fat zero. Just keep an eye on your body fat ladies! Cheers!

Fantastic reaction lovely ladies. We actually used to have Fanta like you when I was a kid, exactly that orange colour and made with full sugar but then they banned the colourings because they're carcinogenic and now because of this stupid sugar tax we've got artificial sweeteners in everything. Nothing tastes like it did when I was a kid. I agree with removing the colourings but they should give people autonomy on how much sugar they want to eat/drink.

Dandelion and Burdock has been around since the 1400's. It was originally a simple Mead made from the root of the two plants in it's name and was supposed to have health benefits. Over the centuries it has evolved into just the soft drink it is today. With the sweet chilli crisps I loved the way Natasha kept eating. A true sign she really liked them.

@@Katieabbott3886 I don’t know. It’s probably from I pick up accents really quickly. I used to work with an Australian woman a few years ago and by the end of the first week I sounded like a true born Aussie. I’ve worked with people from all over the UK and tend to mimic their accents and phrases quite easily. I guess some have just stuck over the years. I was brought up with Fox's biscuits - my Grandma used to work in the factory - and the smell of their ginger biscuits drifting across Batley (the town where they are located) was almost as good as their taste. They now have a factory shop open to the public where you can get bags of 'mis-shapes' for a fraction of the price but they still taste just as good. As for Aero - made in Halifax, also in West Yorkshire - they're so good to pop a chunk in your mouth and just let it dissolve on your tongue. Even better for that is the Cadbury's Wispa.

Dextrose is an actual natural sugar, it is chemically similar the sucrose & is found in corn syrup among other things. Sucralose is an artificial sweetener and sugar substitute. Of course, Fanta is a soft drink originally developed in Germany on the orders of the NSDAP (Hitler's National Socialists) as a replacement for Coca Cola after the US drink became unavailable. It was first created using carrot juice. Aero peppermint is very good too. From my schooldays in England (58-63), I only remember Tizer and Penguin from your sampling hoard. Our school tuck shop had both of those - though Tizer was in bottles and Pengins were sold individually for 2d (one cent in today's US money).

I speculate that the original German Fanta used carrot juice because they were short of sugar during the war. I went out of my way to try German Fanta when I visited Berlin about five years ago, but without having my usual Fanta to compare it with I was unable to tell the difference. (My standard Fanta is the New Zealand version, but I very rarely drink it. No idea how it compares with the UK or US versions.)

If you've ever tasted a Twix, and feel the need to improve on it, use it as a "Twix straw"! Bite the chocolate off of both ends, stick 1 end into your hot tea or coffee (I think coffee is the best for this) and suck until the coffee begins to flow through the Twix. Turn it around and take a bite through the dunked half. AWESOME!!

In the UK, they have to pay additional tax if they put more than a certain percentage of sugar in a soft drink, which is why so many cut the amount of sugar under 5g/100mL (e.g. Fanta is 4.6g/100mL) and added artificial sweeteners to keep up the level of sweetness. The exception is Coca-Cola, which still has the full sugar (10.6g/100mL) and no sweetener. A lot of Americans comment that UK Coke tastes like Mexican Coke (because it's sweetened with sugar instead of corn syrup).

Branston also do a version of their pickle called “Small chunk” where the ingredients are chopped more finely, ie the chunks are about 1/10” (2 - 3 mm) across. Mr Kiplings Bakewell tarts are named after the town Bakewell in England. It is one of the most beautiful towns we have. If you come here and are interested to see where two foods originated you MUST visit Bakewell (where Bakewell 'pudding' not tart originated) and the town of Cheddar (the cheese is matured in the caves and you can actually go down there to see). Obviosously both towns have shops that specialise in the local produce.

I didn't know about the sugar tax nor that artificial sweetners was replaced/added. I can't handle artificial sweetners. We export a fair bit of sugar in Australia so farmers likely lobby government not to tax it though some call for one. We have the normal & 'diet' pop which is the artificial stuff. I don't blame the girls for not liking drinks with a combination, they wouldn't taste the same as straight sugar. I love Branston/cheese on bread or crackers. Butter enhances the experience as long as its the real thing, not spreads or marg.

Somerset is the county in England, UK where the cheddar gorge is. The original hard cheddar was aged in caves along the gorge and in surrounding areas. The Barbers is one of the craft artisan cheeses. A lot of mature (strong) cheddar is sold in the UK. Branson pickle is the best companion to cheddar, we do a small chunk version which is best for sandwiches, original Chunk is for crackers, butter, cheese then a small amount of pickle. Cheese on Toast with Branson is yummy. Lilt/Fanta/Dandelion and Burdock are revolting! We have sucralose in our drinks because we have a sugar tax designed to increase awareness of sugar in foods and reduce purchases.

The best British cheddar comes from Cheddar in Somerset. Yes it's the birthplace of the cheese. Cheddar has a large network of caves that stay at a pretty constant temperature all year round and are still used today as a store to mature the cheese. If you ever come here you have to go during the summertime the hike up Cheddar gorge is great and the view from the top is something to behold.

Natasha, did the cheese affect you and your lactose intolerance? I only ask as some USA travellers spending a few weeks in UK/Europe realised they weren't affected at all despite eating bread and cheese all the time. They considered whether or not it was actual intolerance to the food item or the amount of "extras" that are allowed into the US ingredients.

I don't remember the last time I had Dandelion and Burdock, but it's a taste that reminds me a lot of my childhood. Ginger beer is another that I've not had for a long time, too. Bounty's used to have a strip of card underneath them at one time. They've obviously dispensed with it now, for some reason. The tartness of pickle is supposed to be off-set by the creaminess of the cheese. I think the proportions of each has to be within a certain amount for it to work, though. Generally, I'd put the pickle on the cheese rather than directly onto the bread. Although, it doesn't really matter as you're placing another piece of bread on top to make the sandwich, anyway. I can't remember what Tizer tastes like, to be honest, it's been so long since I last had it.

I lived on cheese and Branston pickle sandwiches as a vegetarian in the late 1980's, early 1990's on what is called doorstop bread slices (bakery bread that is sliced at home so very thick and unevenly sliced!). You can get a sandwich version of the Branston which makes spreading it easier as the chunks are smaller. I prefer the standard on my sandwiches though. Dandelion and Burdock pop reminds me of my childhood in the 70's which we had from the 'popman' who dropped off glass bottles of different flavour pop and collected the empties the following week and you got money back for returning them
