One thing to remember about the US, it can be very different from region to region. So if you visit another location sometime, you might get very different culture shock. Sometimes people from the US can get culture shock just by visiting another state.

Hahaha I’m dying about the people thinking you live in castles 😂 I’ve had people ask if I live in a igloo😑 and think we have polar bears in our back yard 😂

For the record, as an American athlete, I do not eat fast food or "takeaway" as you would say. I also almost never eat a full American breakfast unless I'm going out for a special occasion brunch.
@sportybeth
@sportybeth Жыл бұрын
Oh I didn’t realise “takeaway” was a British phrase. Yeah, I wouldn’t assume you did. It would be both unsustainable and expensive right? Sadly I don’t have cooking facilities in my hotel so I don’t have much choice

American chocolate tastes different because chocolate in military rations had a stabilizer added that affected the taste, but the GIs grew accustomed to the taste and it became the norm across the country. As a neighboring Minnesotan, I can confirm Wisconsin has its own culture, but so does every state. Madison is a college town that probably doesn’t hear a lot of accents, so be patient with them! Hope you get to see more of our country soon!

Great footage and video Beth! It's such a shame about the coverage yesterday. Madison looks great and I am so jealous! I also really appreciate what you do to spread the word of someone neurodiverse (as an SEN teacher) Keep it up and I can't wait to see the next episode!

Love the commentary regarding American culture. Born and raised here on the East Coast. Not sure if this is interesting, but the USA and, I believe New Zealand, are the only two first world countries where pharmaceutical companies actively market their products to consumers rather than separately to physicians and other medical professionals. In terms of TV channels, etc., I think the randomness in programs that you’re experiencing is due to the fact that you’re watching TV at a hotel, and the channels, frankly, are often inconsistent with what you’d see at your own home. At home, you have what is called network channels-ABC, NBC, CBS, etc-and then you pay an additional subscription for cable, which usually is a package deal that includes a specific number of options, and then other channels you pay on top of.-think CNN, Discovery (if you’ve heard of that channel), and others. Beyond that, there are additional premium channels, which do not have commercial advertisements in between programs, which include things like HBO, Showtime, Cinemax, etc. This is all probably way more information than you would’ve ever wanted to know, but anyway there you go. Lol.

I live sbout 40 minutes away from Madison and thought about getting tickets to the games but I didn't. 😢. ❤ Welcome to the US! And yes, our lemonade is typically flat. Lol I'd love a fizzy lemonade though!

I've met a few people from the UK, but I never once assumed they had tea with the Queen. Maybe I'm the outlier 😂 I always thought of the Queen/Royal Family was akin to Oprah over here. 😅

Love watching you speak about your experiences :) you have really inspired me to start crossfit, i also have bipolar and anxiety and its great that you speak so openly about how it effects your everyday life helps me accept myself a lot more. I also stopping trying to workout to just loose weight but now workout to gain skills and strength! Love from bristol x

Yes I also can't handle Hershey either!! And the sugar thing is wild, not agreeing on the lemonade though, it can definitely be non-fizzy! (I'm from Sweden) Also from a fellow bipolar, I have a service dog and traveled to NYC with her, it was an absolute Dream. Of couse not everybody are able to get a service dog, but highly recommended for us anxiety people 💕💕

No one thinks you live in a castle, ride around in a carriage, and dine with the Queen. Apparently, light-hearted small talk baffles you as well.
@sportybeth

😂 so asking staggers with British accents if they’ve had dinner with the queen is “light hearted small talk” here?! Baffled… definitely. Very.

Hotel food sucks here. I always just skip the hotel breakfast and buy healthy foods the night before, and most rooms have a fridge. Also be prepared food you get eating out is like going to be most of your calorie intake for the day. I limit dinner out to once a week. Maybe I'll share a lunch with my family of 4. Seriously, that's how big lunches are. This is why some Americans are so big. Airbnbs are better most have smart tvs. And for the same price you get basically a small house with a kitchen. Not all are like that but the ones I have been in are.

Trader Joe's is a good choice for healthy groceries. Hint for savory breakfast, if you can get a "breakfast burrito" generally eggs, sausage and/or bacon, cheese and maybe veg wrapped in a tortilla. Enjoy the culture clash 😁

Wait till you try the American "tea" My daughter born and raised in SA drinks tea with milk, which her American relatives think is hillarious. Please make more of these videos they are great!

@@sportybeth , I can relate. I was,at one time many years ago, a fast age group triathlete with a few overall race wins in Ultra-tri's. People would come to me from all over the world for advice and then my depression started and it was a downward spiral from there. I gained a lot of weight and the disgust on the faces of my "friends" was palpable. It hurt....a lot. I am on the road to getting fit again and am doing okay but in many ways I am glad that happened because it made me much more empathetic to other people issues. It made me a better person. One thing I always tell people now,and feel free to share if you want,is. " Do not be so quick to judge a person by their looks or their performance because you don't know their back story,you don't know where they have come from to be at the place they are right now. In criticizing them or making negative comments ,you might very well be shitting on the best day they have had in years." Keep fighting the good fight Beth.

Each time Ive visited different parts of US - the food portion sizes, the processed foods and the sugar is always the same in my experiences. I put on at about 3 kilos on return home, and that was us 'trying' to minimise all the crap food while on the go.

This is too funny. As someone who traveled in the military, I enjoy listening to other cultures experiences in the US. Beware, almost every dessert is over sweetened compared to Europe. Oatmeal would be similar to porridge, if the hotel has it. Maybe add butter or milk. If they offer cereal, there should be some containers of milk to choose from.
