🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation: 00:00 🎬 This video is about studying American English pronunciation using a scene from the TV show 'Friends.' 01:26 🗣️ Stress is essential for natural American English speech, shown through pitch changes. 02:23 🔠 The "T" pronunciation changes based on its position and surrounding sounds. 03:37 🔤 The "ed" ending is pronounced as an extra syllable when indicating past tense. 04:31 🔊 Syllable stress and melody are crucial for conveying emotions and rhythm. 05:54 🔄 Smooth linking of words and sounds creates the characteristic flow of American English. 08:13 🗣️ Reductions and linking enhance the natural rhythm of spoken English. 11:18 📢 Different stress patterns and reductions lead to varied syllable lengths in speech. 14:08 📊 Reductions, such as "gonna" for "going to," are common in informal speech. 15:31 🎭 Changing pitch, volume, and rhythm add expressiveness to speech. 18:58 🎭 Character voices often involve specific stress and reduction patterns. 20:47 🆔 Introducing the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) to understand sound symbols. 23:56 🤐 Flap T and reduced vowels are common, affecting words like "able" and "to." 24:54 🚀 Learn about specific speech elements like the dark L sound for better clarity. 25:25 👩‍👧‍👦 Stressing the word "mom" shows its importance in the conversation. 25:57 🤣 Humor arises from Joey's mother knowing about his situation. 26:29 🎭 Slow-motion playback helps analyze pitch changes and linking in speech. 27:08 🎥 Rachel's English Academy offers comprehensive accent training with scene analyses and audio practice. 27:37 🌐 To enhance English skills, consider exploring Rachel's English Academy and subscribing for more content.

Hi, welcome! I do not put every KZbin video into the Academy, but my instruction videos are there for every sound, as well as many of my KZbin series and playlist videos (such as the 500 most common words), and lots of practice soundboards! My suggestion is to use the Academy to study and work through all the soundboards (using the Play-It, Say-It method) and check my social media for additional fun, short videos.

Hi, I am sorry for asking off-topic question, Rachel. When I read the books written by American authors I encounter (can + to) forms in the sentences. For example, Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's books, she used infinitive (to) after model verb can, and this is not first time I came across such cases. I found these kinds of (can + to) forms in another author's books, but not all American authors. Can you please briefly tell me if this usage is OK or is it just common in the USA?! Another astonishing encounter is "peoples", some American authors add -s after the word people, what are they going to express by doing so? I thought the word people is anyways plural word, so we don't need to add -s at the end of it. Thank you very much for awesome, magnificent lessons, I highly appreciate it! Thank you so much for the answers in advance! 😊
@rachelsenglish
@rachelsenglish 9 ай бұрын
"Peoples" seems like an old way of simply saying "people" or "kinds of people". I don't think it is necessary. For can + to, do you have an example? I can give my thoughts more effectively if I see an example of what you mean.
@stevenjackson5106
@stevenjackson5106 9 ай бұрын
@@rachelsenglish I am sorry, I have just read the sentences in the book, however, it was my fault, I misunderstood the gist of the sentences. She used ...we can to..., ...I can to..., forms right after the words everything, whatever, as hard as while making compound sentences. And the sentences convey different meaning than the ones I thought. In general, we do not use infinitive after can or could in simple sentences! I apologize for this, Rachel! 🥺🙏🙏☝

It worked like magic when I emphasized on each word "they said I acted too much with it" and said it to my google assistant on my phone. It didn't recognize the first part "they said I", but I try to reduce and use weak sound and linking technique and lower and fast speed with the phrase "they said I", even google assistant can recognize the full sentence I said which is " they said I acted too much with it". I really want to buy the course you said at the beginning of the video. How can I do it? ❤❤

It can definitely sound quick, but lots of listening practice and observing patterns in the unstressed syllables can help train your ear to hear it more clearly. I recommend some Fast English practices: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gKLbdp2Hat2Zptk

Question: Why are so many people mispronouncing the word ‘women’ these days?

It's a tough one to pronounce! Probably because it has the IH vowel, but is spelled with a letter O.

The only thing is, the aggressive laugh track makes these clips unwatchable for me.

If we were using a finished alphabet and spelling system, the pronunciation would be clear. 'Ʌε guɂ fʌεrd! // Oq! Yea, ћeε sed ћat Ʌε aktid tq muc wiћ it. Ʌε told evrεbudε ubaqt ћis.' (7M Phonetic English)
