Did she just tried to understand the vendor in tagalog? That’s so cool, trying to learn the language. There’s many foreigners vlogging in the philippines and the foreigners who tried to learn to at least understand tagalog for me are thr most genuine foreigners because it takes an effort to learn a new language and showing some sort of effort to do so means they love the country.

What most foreigners don't understand about Filipino cuisine is that with the exception of some western dishes that had been assimilated into the culture, Filipino food is basically one giant Rice Toppings menu. Everything has to go with rice because rice like water acts as the neutralizer, you eat rice to dilute the taste. Is the dish too salty? Eat rice. Too sour? Eat rice. Too bitter? Eat rice. Too sweet? Eat rice. Too spicy and hot? Eat rice. That's why most foreigners find Filipino dishes too salty, sour, sweet or bitter and extreme, because they don't eat rice with it to dilute the taste. Filipino food also isn't heavy on high protein due to the tropical weather, the heat would make you melt under the sun if you have too much high protein in your diet. Those are more apt for countries that have cold winters. For energy, eat rice, they burn off faster and are easier to digest than red meat. Then just add a small portion of protein by eating cubed or bite sized red meat as toppings hence the Filipinos' love for Menudo and Afritada dishes. They're perfect toppings for rice.

When I went to the Philippines for a vacation, I loved the "sinigwelas". The green "sinigwelas" are not yet ripe. The red ones are ripe and very sweet! Next time you see it, pick the red "sinigwelas". Also, try the fruit called "atis" aka "sugar apple". It's green and looks clustered, the white flesh inside is usually a combination of sweet and sour depending on how ripe it is.

Dampa is a word with not only 1 meaning,depending on the usage... You are correct that it means dry, but another meaning is seaside, which I would say would be more appropriate source of the name where you are at. Since it is near the bay
@bashersbeware4 ай бұрын
You need to do a part 2 of Dampa. Only the Lobster and the chili Crab are the usual orders that I'm glad you got to try. The others are mehhh... The ones that you missed out are large shrimps tempura style, either Crab or shrimps in salted egg sauce, grilled pork belly, steamed fish in Tausi Sauce, Baby Squid Adobo style, baked Cheezy mussels and Yang Chow fried rice or Salted fish fried rice. Hongkong Master Cook or Aling Tonya's restaurant are the best restos to. Have your food cooked. I believe in your first ever video of the Philippines, J suggested you to go to Dampa and you replied that you're definitely putting it in your list. Quite a long time coming.

Great vlog of your very fist dampa experience Lockwoods. I went to the same dampa when I last was in the PI. Only thing my family and I did somewhat different was shop for my seafood and gulay, (negotiated our price from the vendors,) then picked out the restaurant that would make the seafood that we just bought the way that we wanted it prepared. G told you Erin to pick your restaurant first…hummm, then shop hummm. See what makes Asian cooking the best is the different styles and use of flavors. That’s why the restaurant Is selected after you select what you want to eat that night. For example, I wanted my lapu lapu prepared Chinese style steamed with ginger, scallions and light soy. And I knew already how much the cooking fee was going to be. Yeah Phil, get you hands on that fabulous crab and go to town brother. Heck with being all neat. Why do you think they give us bibs and buckets at crab boils here in the states🤣😄

You should try our local fruits (jackfruit, marang, durian, atis, avocado) rarely found in grocery stores galore! Peace and joy! 🇵🇭🙏🏻👏⭐️🎉

Looks like you enjoyed that experience! And don't sweat the stress; you'll get used to it eventually. Just remember: primary stress on second-to-last or last syllables only, and check if you need to cut the airflow from vowels that end a word!. Otherwise, is it just me or is Brook more content to be in the background for most episodes? Would be nice for her personality to shine a bit through airtime, if she doesn't mind.

16:29 The one below are Santol.. You have to try them when you see those again, its one of my favorite filipino fruits :) Also, amazing Dampa food tour. Its good to take someone with you, because you have to be experienced with seafood to choose the right one. Because you can also just bring some seafood in yourself, has to be not even from there. I like the concept in general. I often walk trough wet markets and think "Hey that sounds interesting! But I dont know how to prepare it". The "bring your own ingredients" concept is fun

You can buy the seafood first and choose whichever resto to bring it to and cook for you. And they should have suggested the shrimp to be cooked another way or you could have had em cooked 2 ways. The most popular is getting it cooked “tempura” style. Garlic butter is good too. But since the crabs were cooked like that.. the shrimps could have been cooked differently. The crabs are more popularly cooked sweet/chilli or Salted Egg style. And the most popular cook for the squid is calamari or adobo.
