I really like how you made the effort to make sure nobody would be too embarassed and could enjoy the meeting. As far as I know, japanese are well aware of how difficult their culture can be for foreigners and they tolerate a lot, but teaching your mom things surely helped her to feel more comfortable before meeting your in-laws and also "break the ice" faster and more easily when they realize she knows a lot more than they would expect from a foreign person. Your thoughtfulness is really wholesome and should be an example of how to behave when dealing with different cultures. It makes things so much easier when you embrace the differences and try to learn about each other.

This video was so sweet! Seeing your mom meet your in-laws put a smile on my face!! They were so happy to hear her speak and bonded over various things -- it was funny the way your husband shrank from embarrassment at one point! His parents are so nice! Your mom's room was amazing, I'd never seen a wooden tub like that! Your mom visiting and then the preview of the trip back made me realize that you can go back now lol I'm looking forward to it! I hope he enjoyed Arizona!!

"its hard being proud of being american sometimes" No, it's not. You've been socialized into thinking there's something inherently wrong with being America and you've swallowed it hook, line, and sinker. It's a real shame. There's always Japan you can move to.

@@RightCenterBack321 hi! my grandfather was a WWII Veteran and Garrison Commander and the Alabama Department of Veterans Affairs refused to cover his therapy for throat cancer, leaving him destitute and physically without a nose at the time of his (early) death. Humble yourself and realize that no country is perfect, people have infinite legitimate reasons for criticizing the US, if anything a push for blind patriotism is what is pure socialization

@@bronzergoth7598 Hi! People have infinite legitimate reasons for criticizing their country, wherever it is. However, in few countries can we say our upsides are outweighed by our downsides. What happened to your grandfather is terrible, but it's a failure in government and doesn't define this country. Humble yourself and appreciate what we do have in this country, it's quite a lot.
@bronzergoth7598

@@RightCenterBack321 You're backpedaling from accusing me of being socialized into my lack of pride, very disingenuous after making such a huge assumption with your initial reply but thank you for acknowledging that I am correct. 13% of the US homeless population are veterans whereas only 7% of the population at large are veterans (HUD statistics), meaning they are overrepresented by almost double. "A failure in government and doesn't define this country" I don't know a more accurate reflection of a country's values than how we treat the people who are willing to die for it. Enjoy your "upsides" though

I made a comment on your channel from a time back about a time in the late 70s of when my roomie and I were in Japan in OgakiGifu visiting the parents of our college dorm-mate (Japanese) when I was in college in Ashland, Oregon. I made a comment about the neighbor farm ladies in Ogaki pulling my eyelids down to check out the colors of my pupils. I can't believe it has been so long. Anyhow, my point today is that it's so nice to see people today living in Japan who don't surprise me. I had a similar experience with my roommate's unmet fiance's parents in Japan (long story). Their daughter was in the US and invited me and my roommate from Ogaki living in Oregon to visit them while we were on our way driving through her home while we were driving along the North Sea. Their hospitality and joviality was boundless. It made me chuckle and feel warm and sure sent the memories shooting back.
