This is the most informative fencing video that I have watched. I needed to know exactly how to run the insulated ground wires and you did just that.

I am going around roughly a 100' perimeter (tops) & got the 2 mile fencer unit. I will likely be running 3 lines around my structure. The fence is for my chicken coop, to keep bears, mountain lions, bobcats, foxes, coyotes, etc out. It will be going on the exterior of my chain link & wooden privacy fence. That being said, should I put in 3 grounding rods? I imagine I need the best shocking power that I can get, especially to deter bears.
@natesworld8142 жыл бұрын
I would definitely put all 3 in and I would also use a 12AWG or a 14AWG stranded copper wire to connect the rods and fencer together just to give it the best shocking potential

I will be putting one up shortly and don't know much about them......good information.

Best to purchase other brand that American farm works. Purchased 750 insulators from them and half failed broke within 2 months. They did not stand up to there warranty claim. In the process now of changing out 750 insulators. Tractor supply was good and tried to help but American farm works really failed. Have 2 more miles of fence to put up but will not come from them.

I'm needed to connect polywire from one gate end to another. I'm curious if that grounding wire would work when buried to connect the hott wire. Awesome video.
@natesworld8143 жыл бұрын
Yes that will work
@conniesteve85924 жыл бұрын
Did you strip the wire to start it at the first rod? Do you leave insulation on wire when connected to ground rod & clamp? Thanks!
@natesworld8144 жыл бұрын
yes strip the wire for all contacts with grounding rod. leave the insulation on between the grounding rods

Question, just like you I’m going from solar to ac, so do you have to bury the ground wire or can it be above ground? Good video. Thank you in advance
@natesworld814 Жыл бұрын
It can be above ground. I've always seen them buried because it keeps the wire safe but if you have a situation where your wire will be safe above ground it should be fine

Are two grounding wires necessary, and if so why? Is it for a certain length of fence that 2 are required?
@natesworld8142 жыл бұрын
3 grounding rods are recommended but my horses do not require a very hot fence. Therefore based off the length of fence and the not needing a strong biting fence I went with 2 rods.

I am wanting to install this same fence wire. But I wanted to learn more first. Is it true that the wire should NOT touch any vegetation? Grass, weeds, plants, etc? Thanks in advance for your help!
@natesworld8144 жыл бұрын
Yes this is correct. If anything touches the wire it will expel its engine at that point and making everything down the line less hot
@stormieblancahrd95583 жыл бұрын
What if the wire is touching the metal post that hold up wood fences? Can it not touch that?

Hey man, we just put our fence up with the 30 mile version... when we pulled it in that same ticking sound was going on, and the little light was blinking red, is that normal?
@natesworld8146 ай бұрын
Yes, to both. Now to touch it and make sure it's hot 🤣 jk don't do that. If you don't have a tester, use a blade of grass. It won't hurt, but you will feel the shock a little bit to know it's working.
@turbosupraman3 жыл бұрын
I think I have the same charger, or close, I notice the indicator barely lights even if the fence is unhooked from it. What is the normal behavior unhooked?
@natesworld8143 жыл бұрын
I'm unsure what it should do completely unhooked beings that it relies on a good ground. But from personal experience I don't believe the light is as good of an indication anymore this fencer is currently killing grass but doesn't light up like the fencers did years ago. So I wouldn't worry about the light and just put a tester on it and see what you get as close to the fencer as you can if it's hot great then test the far end of the wire if it's still hot great if your not hot at the fencer it's either a grounding issue or a dead fencer but if it's hot at the fencer and not hot at the end of the wire then you have something grounding out your wire ie. Grass, tree, wire... anything but the insulator

So at thw fence when u use that one wire to connect the 3 wires together to make them all live. Do you have to do same thing at the far end or just the begining?

Hey man so we have the same fence and it dont work it works rightwerethe power connects then nothing. Would weeds on the fence short it out.? Ive vhanged all connected on fence posts etc.
@natesworld814 Жыл бұрын
If you have an electronic fence tester I would check it at the connectors where the fence connects to the fencer and see if you have anything and then work your way out until you find your problem. 🤔 it could also be the ground wire. I've seen them brake or come unhooked and without a good ground the fencer won't do anything
@noahriding57804 жыл бұрын
What I don't understand is where would you hook the battery to accompany this? Is the fence energizer also its own battery? Or would you have an additional battery? And another situation is well maybe you'll bring a battery to hook up to charging the existing battery that you'd swap out, so talking about connecting a battery would still need to be done. But people don't talk about this. And I'm guessing a battery with higher amp hours would last longer? Is there any limits to what gauges of wire work with this, or could you in theory use any type of gauge of wire?
@natesworld8144 жыл бұрын
This fencer doesn't use a battery of any kind as far as I know this is an AC unit meaning you plug it is what I believe you are referring to is a DC unit that runs on a car battery and I have never used 1 personally so unfortunately I can give you zero advice on it
@the_sloth22683 жыл бұрын
On the fencer, did you put the grinding and hot wires behind or on top of the washer?
@natesworld8143 жыл бұрын
🤔 I don't believe mine had a washers. But if the washer is metal then they probably want the wires on top. A washer would have definitely solved the problem I had with the wires making the connection with the studs.
@stormieblancahrd95583 жыл бұрын
So do you have do put a medal pole every 10 feet?? I have the solar one and just set it all up and it isn’t working.
@natesworld8143 жыл бұрын
Yes you have to have it grounded most suggest 3 rods 10' feet apart but if your fence distance is small and don't have an animal willing to test it you can probably get away with 1 or 2 rods

I've heard people say that even though folks recommend insulated wire for ground wire, they just use the same wire wire they use for their hot. Any thoughts about that?
@natesworld8144 жыл бұрын
I dont know the exact science to a fencer but do know the ground is everything so the best thing to use is a insulated braided wire. I would think a non insulated wire would reduce the efficient contact between grounding rods reducing the effectiveness of the fencer

I think he was talking about plastic push pull separators to keep his Hotwire off his chicken wire and prevent the shorting. A push away is just a spacer

I'm not sure it would definitely have to be small but you could easily attach a normal wire and then make the connection elsewhere
