yoyomax12 - the diet free zone I seem to be proving this wrong. My red layer melted some of my blue layer so I have one blue strip that is mixing with the red.

I made this the other day and discovered that I don't like the flavor and aftertaste of the white portions. Also I made it in an overnight process which I don't know was a good idea or not. Other than that I would recommend anyone who make this is to not rush to the next color of the jello is not fully set. Also wait to pour a hot jello batch on top of another color because if will melt it. Be patient when removing from the pan and be gentle because they will fall apart in the stripes if mishandled and after the flags are cut, refridgerate or they will sadly melt

I've never heard of gelatin going crumbly and flaky, that is very strange indeed. Sorry, I have no idea. Jello is kind of foolproof usually, lol..

Samantha June The extra gelatin firms up the final product so you can slice it and remove the flags. If you don't add the extra gelatin, you may not be able to slice it properly or remove the flags without them breaking. You could just add less water and adjust the recipe accordingly. I'm making this is right now. I'm on the first layer of white and noticed it was kinda melting the red underneath it -__- ugh. Sooo 15min in between layers is NOT LONG ENOUGH!

Trina L. You need to let the layers set completely (as stated in the video and in the description) before adding the next one, how long this takes will depend on the coldness of your refrigerator. Mine took about 15 minutes or so.
