All the best getting settled in. You're on point by buying a pre owned house and upgrading it to your style IMHO. Yes it can be a pain but you have complete control over what's being done. I hear too many horror stories about expats getting ripped off by unscrupulous builders all the time. Enjoy your new life my friend.

We sent four balikbayan boxes last year, five of them this year. Hard to unpack them when I am still building storage cabinets. Lol.

With regards to the fire insurance on your house, I would definitely recommend that you include earthquake and typhoon, and depending on the insurance company you can buy replacement cause coverage for the building and for the contents. This I would definitely recommend. Also, you want to be sure That you read the definition of the building and the contents because in the US the contents is anything that’s not attached to the house. I believe in the Philippines the contents includes anything you can remove including air conditioning light fixtures anything else that you can physically remove so you wanna be sure that you have the right amount of coverage on the building and on the contents and be sure to know what definitions they are referring to for building and contents

What is funny is we sent about same amount of Balikbayan boxes 3.5 years ago, wife says 26 , I think it was 22, people thought we were crazy but we are still using stuff from them boxes. I am still using razors and have enough left for couple more years. Like you mentioned shoes and clothes for taller and larger people is a must to send. Good luck finding size 13 in local malls. When you show the TV in your vids you should have the Focus channel on that channel is awesome LOL

That's really ignorant for someone to say stop talking about your dog so much because nobody cares about your dog. I know that not everyone is a fan of small dogs and I prefer to have bigger dogs but that doesn't mean that everyone has to like bigger dogs. My first wife and I had a small dog and I loved him just as much as I have loved every dog that I had. I sure hope that the person doesn't feel the same way when you talk about your family or your house. I'm excited for our trip to the Philippines except for the chaos that I know we will go through leaving from LAX on December 23rd around 11am and arriving at NAIA on December 24th around 11pm. I'm hoping that it won't take too long to get through customs.

I got back in the philippines on December 2nd and came through NAIA. It was my first time through that airport on the international side. I usually go through Clark and it's a breeze. NAIA can be a bit chaotic be prepared for that!

@ChrisB-sv1gz I've been in the chaos before but in 2019 I had my dog. We were taken through a different line and we bypassed the crowd that was going through customs. Last year my wife went to one of the immigration officials that were checking people's passports because her mother went through the Philippines side and said that she didn't want her mother to get lost so again we got to get through fast. I know that we're not going to be lucky this time because my mother in law just became a US citizen in early November. Now I just learned that we have to go to a different pick up location so I hope that won't add to the chaos. Thank you for your comment and help it's appreciated.

No moving companies that can pack your belongings and send it to your location? My first time to hear about this sending multiple balik bayan boxes to the PI. Must be so costly vs a moving company that will take care of it.

No much much cheaper to send balikbayan boxes. We were not interested in sending large items. Way too expensive. Many people use balikbayan box companies for shipping, its very common and by far the cheapest.
