We make Samantha's favorite dessert; an Apple Brown Betty and absolutely loved it! Yes, it is a little bit of a Fall dessert but when those apples come in around September now you'll know what to do with them!
What you'll need:
4 large Apples
1 1/2 c Bread Crumbs
1/2 c Brown Sugar
3 T Butter
Cinnamon
1/3 c Milk
1/3 c Butter
1/3 c Powdered Sugar
1 tsp Vanilla
Peel apples. If you have an apple corer, take out cores. If not, slice into thin strips. Cover bottom of a greased 9" square pan with 1/2 c bread crumbs. Lay half the apples on top. Add 1/4 c brown sugar. Cut 1 T of butter into small cubes and sprinkle on top. Sprinkle with cinnamon. Add a second layer of bread crumbs. Repeat layers of apples, sugar, butter and cinnamon. Top with 1/2 c bread crumbs and another cubed 1 T of butter. Pour the milk evenly over top. Bake for 1 hour in a 375 degree oven.
Take the other 1/3 c of butter and add the powdered sugar. Mix together until smooth. Add vanilla and mix again. When dessert is done, add this mixture by the spoonful on top and allow to melt in.
