In Hertfordshire (just north of london) we have a bakery chain called Simmons and they make the best hot cross buns. Very moist and sticky (for want of some better words)

Back in the 60's, my grandfather's favourite party trick was walking into a sweet shop and asking for jelly babies (served from a large tub). When the shopkeeper started measuring them out, he would say "No, I only want the female ones." This would stop the shopkeeper in his / her tracks and they would then examine the jelly babies in detail, usually with a quizzicle expression. Harmless fun. You had to be there.

I've seen Easter eggs for sale just after Christmas. When I worked in retail the Cadbury rep would take the Easter order around September of the previous year.

Just like Jools Hollands New Years Eve show is supposedly film in September or so I'm told. The advance-recorded show features a Hogmanay party atmosphere with all the guests (drawn from across the world of show business) and other guest audience members present, and the artists themselves getting involved alongside a variety of musical acts by the artists from various genres who perform both before and after midnight.

Great video! Can’t beat an Easter treat however you missed off one important Easter treat in my opinion and that is the Lindor chocolate bunny!! Other than that you can’t go wrong with any of the products You have bought, especially creme eggs! They are lush :-)
@BritTucky3 жыл бұрын
Ahhh, yes! Jon loves Lindor. Lindor/Lindt is everywhere over here, particularly on Easter and Christmas.

Our normal kit kats do have the wafer bars, it's just the bunny that has the little bits. The dark chocolate and mint kit kat is my favourite. My favourite Easter treat though, is Simnel Cake. Fruit cake with almond paste/marzipan layers and topping.

I'll have to look up Simnel Cake, it sounds good!

Apparently, Cadbury products are sold under licence by Hershey. For 'under licence' read, NOT Cadbury products at all! ☹

The difference is very noticeable if you try them side by side. The filling in the Cadbury egg is sickeningly sweet but has no real flavor, if that makes sense.

When you told me what you'd filmed this week, it made my chocolate jealous... so I ordered so many sweet things which arrived whilst I was editing! Curse you, Rice!

"Milk chocolate flavour coating?" Under UK law "Flavour" would normally mean an artificial flavouring, "Flavoured" would mean that it was flavoured by something real. If it was a "real" chocolate coating they would just call it chocolate coating.
@corringhamdepot44343 жыл бұрын
PS: Different countries specify different percentages of cocoa butter in "chocolate" before it can be called real chocolate. The UK allows less than 100%, which annoys the Europeans,
@BritTucky3 жыл бұрын
Oh wow, that's really interesting. I know we have a similar standard here about chocolate, and the amount of cream that can be in ice cream so it can be called ice cream.

Just like everyone in the UK has met the Queen, how often have you met JTreacts, (Kentucky). Not taking the rise out of the folks in the US of A, naturally. (sarcasm)? Luv from Royal Tunbridge Wells.

You didn't get an Easter Egg!! No idea if they are a British phenomenon or sold elsewhere. You get a large hollow chocolate egg and they are usually filled with other chocolate. So you might buy a Cadbury's Chocolate Buttons Easter Egg or Galaxy Caramel Easter Egg and the egg is made with Cadbury/Nestlé chocolate and has the other chocs inside.

I MAY have ordered myself a giant Maltesers egg that hadn't arrived yet! It was delicious. For some reason, the US is more of a "giant chocolate bunny" nation.
@4svennie3 жыл бұрын
Love it, 'just eat it, see what happens!'. But unfortunately that is how the U.S. system works, it's allowed, within reason, until someone complains or is killed. Where the European way is, 'hmmm, yes, is that ingredient safe in itself, how is it when mixed with 'x' and 'x'!?'. I can't find in your 'about' section how to post items to you (I'm not on instagram, sorry). I think you need to pop back across for a couple of weeks around easter time, there are so many amazing easter eggs, it really is hard to choose just one to get.

I'm going to set up a post office box, as many people have asked that same question. I am hoping to fly across the pond in May, once restrictions have eased a bit more. Fingers crossed!

I know I don't need to say this, but industrially produced cakes like Mr Kipling's are awful compared with proper home - made cakes, well, my mother's anyway. By (late) mother's Bakewell tart was absolutely delicious, Mr Kipling's Bakewell pukeworthy! Sorry, I'm rambling - the result of several rum and cokes! Thanks for the entertainment - I love the Kentucky accent!
@BritTucky3 жыл бұрын
Thank you!! I've noticed that I've started slipping into the Queen's English occasionally by accident, so I'm glad I still have my Kentucky accent! Last week I said "strawbury" instead of my usual Kentucky "str-awe-bear-y." It really caught me off guard. Like you, I think the homemade versions are always better. I'm going to do some more baking soon, but wanted to try the shop-bought treats as well. Mr. Kipling is like our Little Debbie over here.
