Funny how Americans are never too keen on our food. On the other hand, we probably wouldn't care much for their scones smothered in catsick.

I also doctor up my baked beans, but I add lots of garlic, chilli sauce, herbs and I mix in tiny chunks of fried potatoes.

Hot buttered toast with marmite and cheese can’t beat it

Always added vinegar to mushy peas when cooking - neutralises the alkaline flavour.

Buttered toast, marmite, beans on top never had with cheese, I don't' believe other half is the Brit. Beans cold out of the tin can't beat it. Mushy peas are dried marrowfat peas which are first soaked overnight in water with sodium bicarbonate (baking soda), then rinsed in fresh water, after which the peas are gathered in a saucepan, covered with water, and brought to a boil, then simmered until the peas are softened and mushy.

Prawn cocktail crisps are just the sauce flavour not the prawns (shrimp) so tomato ketchup, mayonnaise and Worcestershire sauce.

My wife won’t have baked beans on toast, tip while heating beans in sauce pan add the cheese then, much better. Mushy are only decent with fish & chips & a jug of pimms. Spotted dick is ok much better with custard. Prawn & cocktail crisps are ok. Marmite you either love or hate. The trick is to spread it thin on bread/toast. My wife only likes it add to steak or into the meat in cottage pie. My daughter in law hates it, but my son in law likes it.

After coming back home from this trip, I have gotten mushy peas from the nearest international store and eaten them by themselves lol. But, I also love pea soup.

@@BritTucky you should find some cod & fry your own fish & chips to go with them 😉 the other regular thing I get sent over is Galaxy hot chocolate, so much better than Cadbury’s. Oh we found some spotted dick in our world trade store, though we forgot the custard. Still can’t find any Sticky toffee pudding over here in Texas, so I may have to may have to try & make it myself.

Ahhhh Ha... For me the the art of beans on toast is to make cheese on toast then add the beans on top. The perfect formula I’ve discovered thus far is.....Brown bread, extra mature Cheddar cheese, THEN the beans, followed by a second layer of grated Red Leicester cheese and topped of with a drizzle of tomato sauce 😋 Out of curiosity can you get Red Leicester cheese in the states ? Good entertainment, thanks once again 👍🏻
@BritTucky3 жыл бұрын
It is soooo difficult to get Red Leicester in the US! I found some at Jungle Jims and it was much more expensive than the other cheddars. I'm not a huge fan of very mature cheeses. I know it's a hallmark of good quality, but my mouth does not enjoy the crusty crunchy bits inside the cheese.

@@BritTucky Hopefully with Brexit the UK can now make its own trade deals with the USA and export more food stuffs to you and indeed import more from the States without interference from the E.U.....and at a less expensive cost 🤞🏻

Love it. Lol. I love mushy peas, especially with fish and chips and pickled eggs. Also, 'pie and peas supper', large warm meat pie and a side of mushy peas. If you want to add a little extra to it, add a touch of mint. Fantastic.

You did not use the marmite correctly. First spread butter on hot toast. Then spread about half a tea spoon of marmite across the toast like skid marks. Mmm. Now try it again properly this time.

Marmite is amazing if eaten properly. You shouldn’t be able to see the marmite on the toast.
