Hello from a fellow Canadian. Potato in biryani is common in Karachi city of Pakistan and other cities you might find it not common. The chutneys are not traditionally eaten with the biryani except for the raita. The chutneys were included for the kebabs actually 😊. And the kebabs are spicy in Pakistan but they keep it mild across NA in restaurants. Thanks for making a video on Pakistani food. I feel it's so underrated and not recognized globally at the level it deserves to be.

I love Pakistani food , I am an Indian but honestly there's no comparison between Pakistani & Indian food and. Pakistan has more flavour, taste and variety in food . Although Indian chefs try to copy the recipe of Pakistani food unfortunately they don't even touch the process.

I think both countries food are very flavourful and use of spices are almost same with minor changes. But I guess Pakistani cuisine include more meat dishes and Indians love veges more. Whenever I saw Indians making veges, I just want to eat it while we Pakistani make veges simple way. But both countries dishes are amazing. ❤

And it's true you can't get the same taste even if you copy it. I personally asa Pakistani tried so many times Kabli Pulao same recipe even I buy rice from an Uncle's shop who is Afgani but still I didn't get the taste we eat at restaurant. So, yeah no matter you try the same procedure you can't get the same taste. A Pakistani making Biryani and American making Biryani can't be samein taste. But Personally I as Pakistani love my own food dishes but also Afghani Dishes especially the dishes in which they use meat because their way of making meat is so simple but turned oit delicious. ❤

Great, enjoy your visit but as a solo female traveler, be very careful and avoid taking unnecessary risks while in Pakistan. Mostly the people are kind but there are bad people everywhere, so use common sense and trust your gut, there are male predators you must watch out for. My top 10 Pakistani dishes are the following: 1) Nihari 2) Chapli Kabab 3) Darul Mahi 4) Chicken Chargha 5) Chicken Sajji 6) Mutton Rosh 7) Katwa Gosht 8) Malai Boti 9) Shinwari Kadai 10) Multani Sohan Halwa In the 1990s I has S Chand school Atlas and in that I saw the physical map of Pakistan. I had a feeling that Dir, Chitral, Mastuj, Mingora, Kalam and Bahrain looked like Himachal Pradesh but there were no images from Pakistan then. I also had a feeling that Pakistani food will be like the food in Karims or Al Jawahar hotel in Delhi. I was introduced to Pakistani food through many Pakistanis, I interacted with when abroad and I realized they are just normal people like us striving for a good life and wanting good of others. I would love to eat at these restaurants in Pakistan: 1) Shahi Darbar: Multan 2) Waris Nihari: Lahore 3) Lal Quila: Karachi 4) Nisar Charsi Tikka: Peshawar

It is even more delicious than 'seekh kabab'. And try some 'tikka boti' too. They're bbq beef or mutton bites marinated in special sauces and cooked on smoking coal. Regards

Hahaha what is bro talking about? Indian food is almost entirely local dishes with a long culinary heritage in India. *Some* dishes in *some* parts of India have Persian/Central Asian influence, but it's a pretty small minority. Present day Indian cuisine is far from Persian/Central Asian food with a "local twist". I don't think that is even true for Pakistan - makki di roti, rajma, kheer, pallo machhi, chhole, dahi baray are all local dishes to Punjab or Sindh with very little if any influence from outside the subcontinent. Not sure why you'd give all the credit to Persians and Turks. Goes to show how little Pakistanis understand their own culture :)

Great video! As a Pakistani I agree there are differences - but North Indian (Punjabi/Mughlai) food and Pakistani food are honestly quite similar . The focus on -and expertise in - Beef (and meat in general) in Pakistani food , and the lack of Heeng among spices in Pakistan are the big differences. Then again each province in Pakistan and India have their own specialties so there will be differences even from city to city.

I'm a Pakistani, living in NorCal for decades, 30 years ago there were no Pakistani restaurants here so occasionally I was eating at Indian restaurants, enjoyed the food but didn't love it. Then a mediocre Pakistani restaurant popped up and eventually some really good ones, so I never went back to Indian. I was married to an Afghan so over time Afghan and Iranian food became my favorite with occasional visit to a Pakistani restaurant. Got divorced, met a Turkish lady, ate a lot of Turkish food mostly on the East Coast (no good Turkish restaurants in Cali), visited and lived in Istanbul for a few months and I started loving Turkish food. Eventually I'm married to a Moroccan lady who is literally an outstanding chef, visited Rabat & Tangier a couple of times and now I totally love Moroccan food, very healthy and wholesome. And unlike other middle eastern food, it's pretty spicey and flavorful to appeal to my Pakistani taste. In conclusion, it's best not to limit yourself to any single cuisine, travel, try all kinds of foods and enjoy the global variety, they are all good :)

Biryani with or without potato is one of the biggest debates in Pakistan. Some like it, some don't. I don't mind either of these.

@ayeshaafzal7495 Adding Potatoes, being the cheapest veggie in 'Biriyani' Rice+Chicken or Mutton/Beef is a cheeky way to generate more profit, means each serving will have LESS Rice (Basmati) and chkn or other meat but Potatoes, which doesn't add or contribute more taste to the dish. But Karahi is very popular in “Karachi”, the largest city, located in the south of Pakistan. It is also very popular in Lahore - and in other cities - so not sure it’s a “south” thing The national dish of Pakistan is Beef Nihari but Biryani and Karahi are also extremely popular.
