Denmark here, I'm a home owner, of a 95 m2 = 1,022.5 sq. ft. house in the outskirts of the 2nd largest city in Denmark. Partly renovated in late 2021 (new 3-layer/triple pane windows, new doors, new red tile roof). The house mortgage is just around $445 a month + a $205 private homeowners cooperative community association fee (which include property taxes, a homeowners' insurance, outdoor/external maintenance and renovations, including, windows, roof, private community roads and sidewalks, snow plowing and salt spreading service, trash & garbage disposal service) So $650 a month all included + $120 a month for water, electricity and heating Internet, 2 phones, an extra large TV package = $150 a month Food and all the other stuff you would need = $300 a month So all included I spend around $1,220 a month to pay for all the basic necessities. I earn around $255 to $360 a day, depending on the hours and day of the week, and my present part-time job as a night watch with no degree required (though I do have one) is nothing fancy. So in principle I only need to work 6 to 7 days a month on average for all the basic necessities to be paid for. In other words, what you may find to be expensive is not what I would consider to be all that expensive.

We do have hight tax in Denmark, but then we do not need to worry if we get sick or need medical treatment. There is a better social security. We do not need to pay for education, but get some money in form of "SU". If you live at home you can get 157$ before tax( becorse the first approx 593$ in a months is taxfree, you do note need to pay tax unles you have job on the side) and if you got your own apartment then you get around 1000$ before tax (after tax it should be like 850$ you get in a month to take a education). So to sum up, we do not need to save up money for hospital bill or for education and our future is not so uncertain.Most dansih do not have a problem to pay our tax, becurese we get so much in return.

Janteloven in general is meant to be anti arrogance but sometimes people take it too far. More rarely on others, but people who are already hard on themselves can easily start seeing any type of self praise as arrogant. I myself is under the latter category. In general I think it's a good thing as long as it's kept in the background and not taken too seriously. After all, nothing is worse and more disruptive in a group than somebody who can't stop wanting to blow smoke up their own ass and try to claim all the attention all the time. About the anti-depressant thing. This is something not many know, but D-vitamin in pill form is apparently counted as anti-depressants my both the EU and US... I guess it's cause it gives energy when you lack it due to dark weather and thus has an anti-depressant effect? Anyways, Danes consume a lot of it, especially during the winter months as the lack of snow means lack of light and thus lack of vitamin D. The sirens are also used for chemical disasters etc.. Not many years ago there was a huge fire near where I lived and they used the sirens along with phone messages to inform people that they should stay indoors and close the windows till the smoke cleared.

Sure we have a higher tax bracket, but with that comes a large part of a social welfare system that has free hospital and GP visits, Education is free, even Universities. Students are paid every month an amount to secure them while they study, our social welfare also provides disabled people with services that would otherwise be a huge impact on their economy, such a prosthetics legs and arms. Medications are deducted every year for every person which means that every time you purchase, the government will provide a deduction which lowers prescription medication. I have only just lined up a small speck of the social welfare Denmark has. Denmark is a great country no doubts. However, there are ALSO many gray areas where Denmark is less that "Happy go lucky" all the time. This being partner violence for instance. Experience Denmark, you wouldn't be disappointed. Denmark has a very big American population as well, so you wouldn't be left alone without a fellow American to seek help and advice from or just in a social aspect. Welcome

Denmark isn't a founding member of the EU and the only EU country with a valid exemption of the obligation to implement conversion to the EURO (Sweden slipped through using a loophole).
@FaithlessDeviant2 ай бұрын
So what makes Sweden's "loophole" more valid than the Danish or British, not converting to Euro? Since I don't know how sweden got their exemption.
@apveening2 ай бұрын
@@FaithlessDeviant Sweden got their "exemption" by joining at the right time. The agreement to implement the Euro was ratified by all participating countries before Sweden joined but it wasn't in the agreement for the Swedish membership, an oversight on the EU part. That oversight was corrected before the next bunch of countries joined. This is one of the hurdles the UK is going to face if it ever wants to rejoin the EU, it will have to implement the Euro (and pretty quick at that as the EU is pretty sick of the UK weaseling out of obligations).
