I, too, think this is less time consuming. I do not think that the Euro-hem is harder than the American hem. They both involve cutting and measuring to ensure a seamless look and they both involve time and precise sewing to ensure that non-cut and non-touched look. Thank you! I love your tutorials!

This is so very helpful! Thank you! I would love to have a tutorial on how to hem flared or belled jeans while keeping the original hem, of that's even possible to do. Oh, and I am a little short, so all my ankle length skinny jeans are too long, but also too baggy at the ankle because that part is made to hit the calf of a taller person. *short girl problems* Would love to someday have a video on how to address that. You are fantastic! Thanks for sharing your amazing talent!

I’ve watched all your videos and especially like any that show adjustments for jeans, which are my favorite pants to wear. I’ve don’t the semi-American version of heming without cutting, but the turn-up and seam line always confuses me. So, what do I do?, I refer to one of your videos for clarity. Many thanks.
@DowntownTailoring Жыл бұрын
Hi Sandi! You pretty much have to know how much you need to shorten it. Let's say you need 3". Then you measure 3" up from the top of the hem and mark a line. Now you are going to sew the top of your hem with the line you just did. Now you got it. A jeans shorten by 3"! I hope this helps 🤗

Can you show how to sew the European hem, where you open the original gold stitching with either a razor blade or seam ripper. The serged edges are tucked inside the opened hem, and then the gold hem is re-sewn, being careful the needle sews into the original holes where the old gold thread was removed in the original hem. This creates a much cleaner and professional look when the serged edges have been sewn inside the hem and not exposed, There is no need to sew/tack the sides up on the inside of and outer and inside seam line, because they have now sewn inside of the original hem.

Love watching your videos. They are so well done. Thanks. I have a question regarding alterations for sagging butt in jeans. My husband is very narrow through the hip and butt area. Because of this he has very sagging and cannot keep his pants up!!! YIKES and looks terrible. Is there a way to correct this by alteration and do you have any videos regarding this issue? Thanks again and best wishes.
@DowntownTailoring4 жыл бұрын
Yes! I don't know how saggy are your husband's pants so I'll guess. You can open the inseam from knee to knee and push the "U" crotch by 3/4" at the back. The front of the pants will remain the same. Take or give depending on the size and how big they are. I hope this makes sense, otherwise, let me know.

I try to mimick the one that’s originally on the jeans which is usually around 4. To be honest, I wouldn’t know exactly, as I set my machine to make longer stitches.

I liked the other one better that you did in another movie, because it looked cleaner and more like the original... However... At least now I understand why this is sometimes used, and why so many people use this method... By understanding the reasoning behind the two methods, one can at least make the choice... Again thanks...

Such processing of the bottom of the jeans is not possible in the case of heavily flared trousers, if they need to be shortened by 8-10 centimeters. 🤷 We need to do it differently and better
@DowntownTailoring Жыл бұрын
If you are interested in knowing what kind of hem is better. You can watch the following video. It details very well what is best for different types of jeans and hem. kzbin.info/www/bejne/epqyZ2yie96bf7M Happy sewing!!!

Why not just cut, turn and hem? Blue Jean thread is available.
@DowntownTailoring3 жыл бұрын
Yes. That's another way. And curiously when I did that on another video, some commented why you didn't keep the original hem 🙃 It tells me we all have different taste. But yes, I cut fold and sew more frequently than adding the original hem as per customers' requests. Cheers!

Why don't you flip it over, sew it and cut it after. That's how I do it.
@DowntownTailoring3 жыл бұрын
Yes! This is a great way to do it too. In this case I didn't do it this way for two reasons. The main reason was because the customer wanted an irregular length (shorter at the back) and that complicated the folding and this gave me the second one and it is that we can't just fold it all the time. Sometimes the pants need to be shorter more than 6" or irregular as this case and this can complicates the math. Anyways I've always kept thinking that I should clarify you can fold it if is possible, that's what I did on my last video about jeans hem. I still think I should clarify this further. Thanks for your comment 😊
