Oh my goodness! As a short person-5’0”- and a big time denim fan! I’m so excited! I have to alter virtually all of my jeans by either hemming it using the other method that shows the repair on the inside or by cutting it and leaving a raw edge. I just had to accept that I wouldn’t be able to cuff my jeans ever again. This is so amazing! I’m in love! 😍😍

I don't know this method is called 'eurohem' but this method is done by local Taylors here(India) from several years ago. I remember my first jeans which is altered in this way was back in 1999. Thanks. Nice tutorial video.

This is so amazing, I am just a little confused on how much you need to cut off when you want to get a finished length. My son wants this hem he always has to have his pants hemmed and he wants the original hem he had it done once in another country I am in USA Please if you do another pair can you make another video and explain that, please. I love your teaching and the person doing your videoing is awesome on closeups and all video editing

Let me offer my tip , use a pair of pliers on the inside double hem , by squeezing it first , then when you fold over squeeze again , it beats you tearing up your machine or maybe you have a portable like me can’t pound on it , try it you’ll like ! Just don’t use the ones your hubby or boyfriend uses on auto , I bought a pair specifically for this & keep in sewing basket !

Hi. Another great video. Why is this alteration on jeans called eurohem? Love all your video's.
@DowntownTailoring4 жыл бұрын
Thank you Allison! It’s called a eurohem because it comes from the same kind of job that was done when doing a curtain hem. They used the original hem with the curtains. It was originated in Europe so then it became the European Hem or “eurohem”

Ah, so you cut off the hem and open it , then use it like edging tape to enclose the raw/cut edge of the leg. Brilliant . Id never have thought of this...getting myself a razor blade to use instead of the seam ripper.

did you cut the leg at the finished hem length?......then did you cut the original hem 1/4 from the original seam line?..sewing back together with 1/4" seam allowance?....
@DowntownTailoring2 жыл бұрын
Yes, yes and yes. Basically, you cut the hem at the same amount you are going to sew. There's a tiny difference of about 1/16 due to the ease needed in the folding process and because of the bulkines of the new hem. In practical terms is irrelevant 🤫 but it can be taken in consideration 😉. Cheers 🙂

I don't understand why u go through all that work wasting time . U could have hem them natually since u had cut the length just fold them twice than sew them in . It will look very natural & faster. What u are doing it's not look natural & time tạke longer

Hi! I understand your point. The fast answer would be that it's a matter of taste, although it's a little more complex than that. The following video will answer your question in full. Please let me know your thoughts after you watch it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/epqyZ2yie96bf7M
