It's actually she who brought it up first in one of the AHS featurettes. It's funny because nobody ever asked her. She just said it in the interview. I think it's her way of asserting that she is in fact an adult. Her death in the glass tank was sadder. It didn't really happen, It was just a vision, but her innocent little screaming was more emotional than that suffocate death.
