As it's often the case, it takes someone from outside the glass house to tell the truth because the people living inside are clueless! Appreciate the candid talk but also keeping it real. That _is_ something Americans excel at and it's a doozy! And humor is no doubt in my mind, the highest art form to criticize something or someone without being offensive. Well done, Andrew. And thank Teddy for bring different and interesting speakers to the show.

Taiwanese value system is the reason why Taiwanese youths enjoy doing what they are doing with lower scale of income generated relative to the dedicated labor. More so, the society in general is very friendly and respectful to each others; it is the same value system that the American visitors are embraced and treated like “King”/Jeff Bezos even when the Americans do not generate as much income as Jeff Bezos; in the States, if you don’t generate as much wealth as Jeff Bazos, you will not be treated like Jeff Bazos : that is the difference.
Being a Taiwanese doing the other around as you guys, I totally feel how you feel about local Taiwanese people. They are very hard working, smart and on this path to make many creative things but still under the traditional Confucianism. When having everything for for you, you need to speak up and being assertive. This is the confidence building process. Otherwise, where do you gain the confidence from?

Too much politeness is not good because I can’t find out the truth / the real feeling. And too much politeness in a job interview abroad (outside of TW) gives an impression of lack of confidence, not assertive. But on the other hand, politeness is a virtue, just don’t over do it, and always observe the surroundings to act properly.
I wish you would talk about the dating scenes between foreign women and Taiwanese men. Many foreign women in Taiwan complained to me that its so difficult to get a date with a Taiwanese man, and this is why you don't often find foreign women staying in Taiwan for more than 2-3 years. They eventually go back to their home country. I would like to hear from Taiwanese men their view on dating western women.

Hi Teddy, I'm a Taiwan native who currently lives in France. I totally understand how you feel as a foreigner living in Taiwan ! First, to overcome the inner boredom, you need to participate any local community or group in Taiwan and see how it goes. 😉 Of course, you don't need to do so if, from the bottom of your heart, you don't care for the people on that tiny island. ( I've tried doing so but the narcissistic & ego-centric French people turned me off and I decided to care for them no more. ) Yet, if you develop something by doing so, you will eventually find Taiwan as your second home, a real home, and you will no longer feel bored. ( how can you feel bored when relaxing at home !? ) I hope I can meet you in person when visiting Taiwan this summer....😉
