A great entry level reflex deflex longbow by AF Archery.
You get quite some performance out of this bow for the price!
Draws very smooth (up to 32”) is just a bit loud and has a little hand shock (maybe 8.5gpp is a bit too light) Great bow!

On the website I could not find the bow, but on amazon :)

Excellent video. Thanks to you, my 13 year old son and I have discovered (rediscovered for me) a new love for archery. Coming from a compound bow back years ago, I’ve really gotten into the traditional/instinctive style of shooting. Bows like this longbow have made my old shoulders and elbows much less painful. We are both enjoying the Snake 60" 18# for him, 26# for me. By next spring I will be ready to move on to something else. Your videos make that so much easier to do now. The only hard choice is picking just one. Thank you for doing all of these reviews. We appreciate your work very much.

String silencers and soft arrow shelf and sight window material will greatly quiet any bow down. I use leather turned rough side out so there is no slick leather "squeak" as you draw the arrow back. Recurves are faster, but they tend to be much louder than longbow or reflex style limbs. Also recurve limbs can be less forgiving on sloppy arrow release. You can put layers of leather against the side plate to move the arrow away from the sight windoe and raise your point weight. Heavier arrow setups are slower but more stable in flight with finger release. I went from 460 grain arrows and a 125 grain point to heavier spine 540 grain arrow with 175 grain point. Both were spine properly for the bow but my accuracy was much better with the heavier arrow. Bow also shoots quieter with heavier arrow. Thanks for the review.

I love AF Archery’s bows. I have a Takedown Recurve I purchased from the Amazon store years ago. Only paid $100! It’s beautiful and hasn’t given my any issues. Love it. Now I also have one of their Takedown Tartar bows. I’ll have to add this one to my growing collection.

I have a general question. The American lowbrow like this, and Olympic style bows tend to have a deep and flat arrow shelf, both in the vertical and horizontal directions. It seems to me that if you do side khatra with this type of shelf, even if the shelf were to be on the right side of the bow for thumb release, the twist to the side moves the front of the arrow shelf to the away from the arrow-- but brings the back of the shelf towards the arrow. And if you do down khatra, when the front of the shelf drops to clear the arrow, the back of the shelf would rise to meet the arrow. To me--this explains why Asian bows designed for khatra never developed the western style arrow shelf. The depth of the western arrow shelf makes it easier to achieve a near-center shot arrow pass without weakening the handle area. I suspect that is why many bows designed for khatra have a somewhat somewhat wider arrow pass. If the part of the bow where the arrow passes is at it's widest at the front (towards the back of the bow--a very small amount of khatra moves the arrow pass away from the arrow. If the arrow pass is deep from front to back and is as wide at the front (back of the bow) as it is at the back--more khatra would be needed to move both the front and back of arrow pass away from the arrow. The Pacific Northwest bows are quite flat and wide--but narrow-- even in the arrow pass area--and the use of torque easily twitches the bow clear of the arrow. Armin--does this seems reasonable to you?

yes, a deep shelf will have a negative impact on bow rotations

Hey sig man, i love sig firearms as well. Ive owned more than a few over the years. I see your comments in almost all the archery channels. Your obviously serious about trad archery. Im wonder if we both came to archery from the gun world for similar reasons. Anyway, always look for your coments in the archery videos that i watch. Cheers

Seems like a solid budget bow, rather for a beginner or someone in between that can't really buy the higher priced ones. Looks like a nice bow as well, so didn't sacrifice visuals in the price. Badge on the opposite side of the rest, at first glance makes it look like a Fred Bear bow. I'd buy it if I wanted an American Longbow. I don't since I already have an American style Longbow. But if I was looking into one and needed a review, this review would sell me on this bow. Great as always.

Awesome as always 😃. They don't make a left handed version ☹️, I use string twist so thinking I would clear the large shelf without Khatra on thumb release but 🤷🏻‍♂️. Nice looking American bow for sure . AF do some really well crafted bows 👍 🙏

Order a D97 flemish string from your favourite custom stringmaker and that will quiet down all these flatbows. I've come to realize that all mass produced trad bows might as well not come with a factory string as they all do a disservice to the bow itself. Once you get a custom string it shows the actual potential of the bow.
@Daylon91
@Daylon91 2 жыл бұрын
A flemish string isn't more silent. Armin did a test with a flemish string and a d97 on his Kheshig and the flemish was much louder. This bow needs string silencers. That'll make her shoot nicer and quieter

ARMIN, WITH Those flat bows how do you know which end to put your string on the bow, I know there's a top and bottom end but with the type of string, there isn't much different in loop size, I have to take a guess with mine
@ArminHirmer

usually when you hold the center serving horizontal, one hanging down string part is longer than the other. The longer one is the bottom one. If not then it does not matter :)

hello armin, one question, it is clear that the less number of threads, the more speed, but when you are shooting a korean bow with a heavy arrow, 12 gpp will push better a string with more number of threads?
