43:44 This is exactly what it was all about. When I started going to parties it was right around the time that my mom was diagnosed with cancer. At 18 years old that was a hard pill to swallow. Once a month my group of friends and I would get together and go party. It was my only escape from the nightmare I was living at the time. It was my therapy and gave me so much to look forward to. Even my Mom would be waiting for me to return home so she could hear all about it. Lol. Cool Mom she was.

1st Rave was Cleveland 420 96, second rave was in Columbus at this giant ballroom, Frankie Bones was a headliner. Third was Phantom 45 in Chicago, 4th was Family Affair 3, 5th was at an abandoned factory in Dayton. I moved to SoCal mainly because of John Kelly’s Funkydesertbreaks. I’ve been from sea to shining sea raving this era, it will never be duplicated! They don’t party like WE used to!

I now consider myself one of the lucky ones, being that I was able to witness and live and dance and just to have human contact in general, and love my fellow humans through the musikkkk while we danced as the records spin!!! I Loved Christopher Lawrence and DJ MIcro's sets. I really dug the Moonshine label as it was a little more local and less mainstream then the big DJs of the time Sasha Digweed Oakenfold etc.... although i loved those guys too haha

Sasha and Digweed and Oakie were all out of Europe where Electronic music was far more popular and already becoming mainstream when it was still in the earlier days in the States. Moonshine was like one of the first bigger labels in the States. Definitely not local but I get what you mean. Its funny seeing these guys young again especially Carl Cox. Dude still shows the youngsters how its done.

Funny Story about Sasha and Digweed. I first saw them in Memphis of all places, can't recall the year but most definitely 98 or 99 or in that area. The night of the show I was on Beale Street before it started and me and my boy were walking down Beale when suddenly there is Sasha and Digweed right in front of us. Of course we thought it was amazing we were on Beale with Sasha and Digweed and when we got hyped up meeting them no one else around knew why we thought the dudes were something special. Plenty of confused faces around. I think Digweed was just voted #1 DJ in the world while Sasha was like # 3.

See the ending is tough to watch being a 90s/early 2000s raver..having to deal with the legality bullshit just killed it.. for me anyway..the producter companies having to try and be more "professional" and doing the big one room concert type shows took all the fun out of it..was a new england raver so we had places like the lunatarium(nyc), the met(ME), skate key(nyc), the muni(CT), tunnel(nyc), limelight(nyc),and my fav Asylum(MA), clubs and warehouses open all night with no dress code and u could smoke..they had multiple rooms with an incredible diversity of music..if u didnt dig the shit in the main room u had three other options to choose from..u could walk around meet people and explore different little chill spots..it was fuckin grimey but awesome..but really the best part was u could do pretty much whatever the fuck u wanted unless u were a total moron( which theyre were plenty of)..and not that i wanna condone drug use but lets be honest they were rampant and we used them all heavily cause they took those parties and made them over the top euphoric..everyone was lovin each other and it was incredible..what killed it was the 16 plus deal and the younger fuckers who couldn't handle there shit..dont get me wrong i started at 16 but for some reason we could always handle it..literary some of the best times i ever had and would kill for 1 more!🤪

In NOLA that must have been after Diso Donnie gave in trouble with the DEA after an underage girl died at one of his shows. Donnies promotion at the time was called The Freebase Society and had been throwing huge parties arguably the biggest in the country. Being from the region I can say NOLA never gave a shit about drugs and alcohol. Mardi Gras wouldn't exist. As you get older though you see its mostly the younger kids 18, 19, 20 year olds are the ones doing the majority of the hard drugs. The older crowd mostly stays away.

I spent many of Saturday nights at The State Palace Theater. My good friend's sister knew Disco Donnie. The rave scene in NOLA in 98-01 was definitely one the biggest in the country at the time. They came through with the Crack House Statute and that was that. I sure have plenty of great memories though of my times there. Moonshine, Super Phat Hong Kong Phooey Twooey, and Zuluu, just to name a few of what we used to call "parties" in New Orleans. If you know, you know.

@Paul Mauroner You can't forget "Psychedelic Pimp Daddy Land" or "Vampire Stripper Sluts from Outer Space." You are so right on calling them Parties as opposed to Raves. The word "rave" was almost like a dirty word in the 90s. With all the negative press that the news would put out there about them while always referring to them as raves, it was usually best to call them parties, especially when in the company of non party goers.
