American Motors Corporation I was the 4th largest and last independent automaker competing against the Big Three. Chrysler bought American Motors in the late 80s and AMC ceased to exist.

My parents both worked at AMC. I could see the factory from my house growing up. That America is long gone.

For sure! They got ripped off at the end with the Chrysler deal too. Such a shame. AMC’s fate seems to have come back to haunt Chrysler which themselves are now in the mercy of another company (Fiat/Peugeot).

Henry Ford created the world's largest auto assembly plant called The Rouge Plant. At the Rouge, raw materials are shipped via huge lake freighters to the 3 blast furnances. There, molten steel is created and shaped into the many components to assemble each vehicle there. This AMC plant doesn't manufacture their own steel. In fact, many of the AMC vehicles had Ford engines under their hood. The Kenosha plant may be big under AMC standards, but NOTHING beats the Ford Motor Company Rouge Plant. Not even close.
