The heater is issued as a separate item. If you have ever had a non functional heater in a US MRE that is why they issue them separately. The meals last longer than the heaters in storage so they issue a new case of heaters when on operations and you can take a stack of them.

You haven't lived until you have had the IMP ham omelette, known to Canadian infantry as "lung in a bag", warmed up on the exhaust manifold of a snowmobile on a winter survival exercise. Good times, good times.

The strangest MRE I've eaten was the spaghetti MRE. Strange because it came with 2 tortillas for some reason. There was nothing else in there that pairs up with the tortillas so i ended up eating spaghetti soft tacos 🤔🙂

We cooked them in a pressure cooker, there's a separate chemical warmer though you can use with water in the metal cup that fits under the canteen, there are also matches. We put the packet of peanut butter on the bread, or use it with the sloppy joe imp. We saved the napkin as toilet paper. Coffee crip is a chocolate bar, it's not a significant source of caffeine, there are instant coffee packets amd tea packets in IMP's for caffeine. What they should include in IMP's is a fiber drink. 😬

Also, those entrées are meant to be thrown in a pot of boiling water for 5-10 minutes to heat them. The individual ration heaters were non existent here until we started getting US style MREs

What, you can't get coffee crisp in the US? You should try the poutine, but don't eat it cold!

For a while in 2009 when we were working out of CNS at Kandahar we were resupplied with the Canadian combat rats. Maybe it was because I was tired of American MREs and T-rats by then, but I found the Canadian versions of an MRE to be pretty good.

You should have had a heater in the kitchen. Missing for some reason. The coffee Crisp is a normal chocolate bar here in Canada. I like them. It isn’t your coffee replacement, another item missing from you kit

I wouldn't rely on Coffee Crisp to sub for real coffee Randal LOL. We give the smaller version out for Halloween. Comes in a multi box with Smarties, Aero and Kit Kats. :)

Ration heaters come separate from the rations, I'm assuming in an effort to reduce waste and cost. In most cases soldiers will just eat the meals cold, otherwise JetBoils are the way to go for many troops. In the winter we sleep out of tents that are heated by naptha Coleman stoves and will heat the rations as a section/tent in a pressure cooker.

We would often get MRE heaters, with IMP's. Or, we have a small stove that fits around the canteen. You put a solid fuel puck underneath and boil it in water.

The IMP buns are awesome 👌🏻 whatever voodoo magic, nitrogen, preservatives are used to pack it works. Every IMP I've had the bun has been perfect. As for heat you need some source of heat, boiling water or whatever. Not coming with a flameless heater is a major fail. There should be some Frank's Red Hot sauce in the condiments. It really makes everything, even the pulled pork meal taste better cold. I haven't had a massive variety of MRE but here's my list: 1. Canadian 2. USA 3. Lithuanian 4. Russian(24 hours worth of meals drinks, and snacks)

We had a small folding stove, we would place a hexamine tablet inside, light it up, water in canteen cup and stick the pack in until hot. When in a ten man tent on winter ex or other we used a Section pressure cooker, mechanized placed the ration packs on the engine grill, in RECCE on the move we duck taped the ration meal to our stomach heated using body heat.

Is it anything like the two pieces of bread that comes in our MRE's?I can't remember which one it came in, but I know I've mix and matched with others like you do, and made a pretty impressive sandwich at one point! I have a picture of it somewhere I'm sure. I mean I've done it multiple times, but this one time I made an impressive impressive sandwich!
