"Explaining cricket for baseball fans" is a better video for you to watch. The 5 match 5day ashes series is on at the moment between England and Australia and it is gripping and has been played every 2 years since 1877 since the first one in the MCG in Melbourne. The USA and Canada played the very first international game in 1844.

This is a terrible explanation. Oh dear. There are two teams. One is in the field 'bowling' (delivering the balls) and the other is 'batting'. The team who are facing the bowling send two Batters out. One Batter faces the delivery and tries to hit the ball and get Runs, the Batter at the other end must run to the other end (so they cross in the middle of the pitch as they get the run). So no 'Bases' they must run between the two creases. The bowling team tries to get the Batsman out (as shown). The Bowling Team must get 10 Batsmen out, trying to restrict the number of Runs the Batting team get. There are 11 Players on each Team. The Bowling team have all 11 Players on the Field. The Batting Team sends out 2 Batters. As one Batter is gotten out, he returns to the shed and another Batter comes to the Crease. When the Bowling team get 10 wickets, the Batting side are 'All Out' and the Teams swap. The Bowling team now become Batters and the Batting team sends all 11 players out into the field. There are No Bases. The Batters run BETWEEN the two wickets at either end. The Score lines you are seeing: 111 - 2 (or 2 - 111) means the Bowling side have gotten two Batters out and the Batting side have scored 111 Runs. Individual figures might be like: Cummins 4/89 - means the Bowler Cummins has taken 4 Wickets (gotten four Batters out) having 89 Runs Scored against him. Your best approach would be to watch a 20/20 Match (each Team only gets 20, 6 Ball Overs) with the Basement crew explaining it to you. It is a very complex game to understand, but once you get the basics, it becomes the most fascinating sport to follow.

The second batsman's job is to wait for his turn and run in tandem with the first batsman. He cannot interfere with play. For example: the batsmen make 1 run. After the run is made the batsman who was waiting now has his turn to bat (because obviously they have swapped sides).

Q : Why there are two Batsmen? Ans : Let me explain it as a Beautiful Story of Cricket.. * Assume the two Teams to be 2 Kingdoms -> 1. The Batting Kingdom, 2. The Bowling/Fielding Kingdom. * At any time of the Innings, The whole Field belongs to the Bowling Kingdom except those 2 Wickets (Wickets - Stump and Bails on either side of the Pitch at the Striker's end and Non Striker's/Bowler's end right?) * Imagine the Wickets to be the Treasure of Batting Kingdom in the middle of the Field of Bowling Kingdom. * Batting Kingdom can only send 2 Soldiers ( Batsmen) at a Time, to protect those 2 Wickets and score runs..Other Batsmen will be waiting in the Dugout.. All 11 players of Fielding Team will be on Ground.. But only 2 Players of Batting Team can be on the Ground at any time of Play. * Aim of Batting Kingdom is to Fight (Bat to score run) while protecting those 2 treasures (Wickets) of their Own Kingdom. * Since there are two Treasures on either end, they need 2 Batsman to protect both the Wickets at any Time. * Aim of Bowling kingdom is to Break the Treasure(Wicket) of the Batting Kingdom, so the Soldier of Batting Kingdom will be OUT. * So How can Batting Kingdom protect them? 1. By staying inside the Crease Line. 2. By preventing the Ball from Hitting the Wickets using their Bat. * If they fail to protect it by moving away from the Crease line, they are out. If the Batsman went out, it's called STUMPING by the Wicket Keeper. If it's the Non-Striker (who is protecting the other wicket on Bowler's/His won end), it's NON-STRIKER'S RUNOUT (Older Term 'Mankad'). In Cricket, if once out, they are done for the Day. Can't bat again. Another Batsman will come to protect their wicket.. So an OUT is more precious.. * Both Batsmen has to exchange their Positions by Running to the Opposite side and reach the Opposite end Crease, which Give them 'One Run' (one run = one point). When a Batsman hit a Ball, and the Ball has rolled along the Ground for some distance but didn't reach the Boundary (i.e. the Fielders stopped it before reaching the Boundary), the only way the Batting Kingdom can score is running to the Opposite end Crease ('RUNNING BETWEEN THE WICKETS' in Cricketing Term). But, if the Fielding team is quick enough to throw the Ball to their Fellow fielder standing near the Wicket (Treasure), they can hit those Wickets with the Ball Or with the Hand which is holding the Ball before the Batsman could reach the Crease line. This can be done on both the Wickets (Doesn't necessarily to be the Batsman's one). 10:38 Here he is the Non-Striker. I said, Both Batsmen has to Exchange positions for 1 Run ( even 1 run Matters as teams have lost Game with 1 run). He tried to exchange positions, but the Batsman (not in the Frame) who hit the ball, didn't try to Run as he felt the Bowling kingdom will break the wicket before he could make it to the Opposite Crease. Since the Non-Striker end Batsman (in this Frame, who tried to run) didn't make it Back to the Crease on Time, The Soldier of the Bowling Kingdom broke their Wicket while having the Ball in his Hand. Batting Kingdom Soldier failed to protect the wicket as he didn't make it to the Crease. So he is OUT. That's y he is looking angrily at the Batsman on the other end. The man on the Frame with Orange Jersey is a World Class Australian Key Player. So, it's an Important Wicket for the Bowling team to take and they made it. * The Batsman who didn't make it to the Crease where he is approaching is the One who will be OUT. * If the Positions are exchanged successfully once (the Batsman near the Bowler) will now be at the Batting Crease (near the Wicketkeeper) and it's his time to Bat now. -> So, this is y Batsmen always work in Pair as there are two wickets which are to be protected. And it's 'All Out' in cricket even though One batsman always remains to be Not-out coz they don't have another Batsman to protect the other Wicket. * One Team will Bat first Score.. Other Team will chase the Run scored by the Team which Batted First.. When the Second Batting Team scored more than the First Team, before using all Bastmen (i.e. Here, they have 4 more Batsmen in Dugout who have to Bat even if the Present Batman is Out). SO, IT'S WON BY 4 WICKETS.. As Wickets fall, it will be Bowlers who will Bat. They are not Specialist in Batting as they are Predominantly Bowlers.. So it's easy for the Fielding team to get them out. * 11 Players - Mostly 4-5 Specialised Batsmen, 2-3 All-Rounders (Can Bat and Bowl but not as Specialist ones), 3-4 Specialised Bowlers. Note : Bowlers also must Bat if Top order Specialised Batsmen are OUT. Hope this Helps.. U said ' You understood LBW'.. No, u don't.. It has so much in it like Pitching, Impact and Hitting the Wickets.. 😅 It's an easy Game, But not easy enough to understand in a Day.. Can understand only when u watch.. Even People who play it since childhood took Years to Understand it, as it is Complex.. Happy Learning ✌ Tip : Forget Baseball when u learn Cricket.. Come with a Fresh Mind.. Or else, u won't get it anyday.. 😊 Typical : If I can't understand, it's Boring.. 😅😅 Do u think 2.5 Billion around the World will watch a Boring game? Don't cry abt South Asians.. Not everyone here watch Cricket.. *Explaination to a 5 yr Kid : Hit the Ball with the Bat. If it reaches the Boundary, it's more runs.. If it hits the Wicket (Sticks) or being Caught, it's OUT.. To score run, run as soon as u hit the Ball to a Distance before someone hit the Wicket with the Ball* Even if this is difficult, no-one can explain it.

12:40 That is not hit wicket. That is just a rare way to get run out and it only happens if the bowler gets a touch on the ball. It is a shame that Ninh has made his cricket video confusing for people that don't know cricket, since they are the people who will watch his videos. Run outs, stumpings and hit wicket are all different. Hit wicket is when the batter hits the wicket with his bat, body or protective equipment during the time when he (or she) is facing a ball. If the wicket gets broken the batter is out hit wicket and the bowler gets a wicket stat. To prevent hit wicket a batter should stand a few feet in front of the wickets.
@thevomit5851

On the run out part: the batsman was running to his partners crease trying to score a run. However... his team mate (2nd batsman) decided he would stay in his crease. The batsman who decided to run then had to run back to his crease because his partner did not also run. Basically a communication issue between the two batsmen. If the fielding team hits the wickets when a batsman isn't in his crease that batsman is out.

It's like there are two bases, one at home where the batter stands and one at the pitchers mound that is third. You start with a batter on 3rd and one at home, they stay on at bat whether on home or 3rd until they're out. When the batters run the one at home runs to 3rd (the mound) and the guy on 3rd runs home. They can run two with the guy now at the mound or on 3rd now runnng home and the guy on home running to 3rd. After 6 pitches a new pitcher takes over and home and the mound switch round, so the pitcher pitches from what was home. Run out is where a batter doesn't make it to the base before the ball does. If the batter on home is out a new batter comes to home, if the batter at 3rd is out a new batter comes to 3rd. the bases must always be loaded. so you have to always have two people at bat.

Johnny, great to see ya back mate, and please don't give up on learning cricket. Here are some basic facts for ya mate. Each team has 11 players per team and with a coin toss decides which team bats first. The batting team sends out their two best batsmen while the rest of the team are in the dressing room. When one of the batsmen are dismissed (caught, bowled, stumped etc) he goes off the field and a new batsman comes out. If the first two batsmen pass each other while the ball has been hit in the air and before the fieldsman catches the ball, the batsmen who hit the ball is the player who walks off the field. Because the batsmen passed each other on the pitch, the batsmen who ran from the bowlers crease is now the batsmen who faces the bowler and the new batsmen goes down to the bowlers crease. The crease is the line about 3-4 feet in front of the stumps. From stump to stump is about 11 yards in length. After the bowler has bowled 6 legitimate balls to either batsmen out on the field (this is called an over), the fielding team then bowls from the other crease at whichever batsman is down in the batting crease with a different bowler. Note one bowler CANNOT bowl 2 overs in a row, but can the first and third over. I'll leave the lesson there for now and if you have any questions please don't be afraid to ask me. I'm glad to see that you're doing better as we have missed you greatly. And the tipping comp is starting to tighten up again with only 45 games left before the playoffs begin. Hey jb , That was hilarious 😂. I think you need to stop comparing cricket to baseball. They are not similar . There is no bases in cricket , 2 batsmen bat at the same time , they stand at each end , the bowler bowls the ball and the batsman hits the ball . Both batsmen can then choose to run or not run to the other end of the pitch and score 1 run or 2 runs there is no limit for runs to be run ,up and back . If 1 batsmen goes out another batsmen from the locker room comes in and so on until they are all out ( 10 ), or they bat out their allotted overs , The bowlers have 6 balls each at a time then another bowler bowls from the other end 6 balls. In T20 the bowlers are limited to 4 overs each remember T20- 20 overs 6 balls per over 120 balls , one day format 50 overs 6 balls per over 300 balls and test cricket is unlimited, can go 5 days . These are different formats of the game but basically the same rules . You were watching T20 cricket Give cricket a go mate, remember the AFL had you bamboozled at the start . I hear your frustration and it is confusing but u will get it . Great to see u back 😊

The score is the runs scored and how many wickets have been taken. The team batting has 11 batsmen that the bowling team have to get out. When the team batting are all out they all go on field to bowl and the fielding team get their turn to bat. A run is scored when the batsman hit the ball and the 2 batsman run to the opposite end which scores 1 run. If they run twice its 2 runs and so on. If they hit the ball to the boundary its 4 runs, if they hit over the boundary on the full its 6 runs.

For example 162 - 4. 162 runs, 4 Batsmen are out. As stated, there are 11 members on each team. Batsmen work in pairs, and cannot bat alone due to the way runs are scored (running to each wicket). When one batsmen is out, he is replaced by the next batsmen in the line up, whilst the other batsmen of the pair stays in play. The 6 legal balls of an over are bowled at one batsmen (or if they run to the opposite end, the other batsmen is "on strike") - once the 6 balls are bowled, whoever is at the other end of the pitch is now being bowled to by another bowler. Think of the crease as the base - you must make it safely over that crease to score a run. The batsman you saw kind of just running randomly, was caught in a miscue by his partner and was half way down the pitch before being able to make it back when he was "run out". There has been a recent series called the 100 (yes, 100 balls per team) that has really taken off and is very insightful into Cricket, I highly recommend.

Bottom stat is the team batting statistic. 169-2 means batting team has 169 runs and 2 batters have been out.This is not a full refection of the overall score just the current team batting.Each team's have 10 batters/wickets at hand before the change of innings, meaning swapping from batting to fielding.

Just confuse you further #6 Hit Wicket and Accidental Out is wrong. 'Hit wicket' is simply the batsman inadvertently hits his own wicket whilst facing the bowler; this can be done with bat, foot, body or pierce of equipment hitting the wicket and removing a bail. There is no such thing as "ACCIDENTAL OUT" in cricket. A batsman cannot run out his partner by hitting the wicket at the other end; a batsman can ONLY be run out by a member of the fielding team.

Two batsmen must be on the pitch at one time; when a batsman is out, they are replaced by the next batsman in the line-up. A fielding player if injured can be replaced by the substitute; if the injured player was a bowler then substitute player may only field, they are not allowed to bowl. If a batsman is injured during play, they can either retire or play on; if the injured batsman is unable to run, then the substitute player may run for them. It can get a bit confusing, just stay with it.

They literally explained that to score runs the two batsmen have to run between the two wickets. Both of them have to reach the opposite side to score a run. If the ball knocks the wicket off before you reach the crease, you’re out.

To score a run, each batsman must run to the other wickets; each time they successful do this, they score a run. The facing batsman who hits the ball is credited with those runs. If the scoreboard shows 199 - 4, this says the batting team have scored 199 runs for the lose of 4 wickets(batsmen); and the 1 - 37, means the bowler has taken 1 wicket for the lose of 37 runs.

2.49 1 sub is for substituting an injured player who needs medical attention and cannot play the game anymore. (very rare occation). 3:52 The score 43-2 means the current batting team (KXIP) scored 43 runs with two batter out at this point in the game. 3:52 Its not 23 to 11. The score VOHRA* 23 SAHA 11 means the current batter Vohra scored 23 runs and Saha scored 11 run at this point in the game. They are both from the same team. 4:04 The batting team sends two batter out of 11 in the field to bat. One is facing the ball from pitcher/batter and is known as striker and the other one is known as non-striker/runner. The rest of the team are in the bench. The next batter will come to play if any 1 of the batter is out so that there are always 2 batter. 4:36 51 OFF 30 means Saha scored 51 runs from 30 balls 4:47 The batsman cannot bat alone means someone needs to be on the non-striker/runner zone. There is only one player that faces the bolwer/pitcher. The non-striker is indeed hanging out there in the non-strker zone. 5:46 the catcher catches the ball and is trying to (hit the wicket and) take the bails off the wicket in hope that the batter that is running that part has not reached yet. Its always safe to take the bail out so that you can make the batter out. If you dont do that then you could miss getting the batter out if he has not crossed the line. 6:01 199-4 means the current batting team made 199 runs and got their 4 batters out. 6:03 its not 115 to 0. It means Saha scored 115 runs (in 55 balls) and Miller scored 0 runs in 0 balls 8:22 You are right. The bowler/pitcher hit the wicket and thats why he is out 8:22 There are no strikes. If the bowler/pitcher hits the wicket (even in the first) ball you are out. You will not be playing in this inning again. 9:20 What was the batsman doing? He was tring to run to score the run. The fielding team caught him in the middle and could not come to the safe zone and now he is out. 9:52 What wickets are those? Looks like the wickets in the bowler's end. It does not matter which wickets are these. Both the batter needs to be inside the crease to be not out in their respective end. In this case one of the batter is not inside the crease most likely while running between the wickets. The fielding team caught the batter and took the bails out and he is out. 10:29 Thats not where he started. Both the striker and non-striker start from their respective crease. Looks like he is on the non-striker end. He started to run to the other end when the striker batter hit the ball. The ball went directly to the fielder. The fielder threw the ball to the wicket and did a direct hit and got the bails out before the batter could safely come to his crease. Thats definately not where he started. His buddy is not in the picture. He must be inside his own crease. 11:38 The batter knew the rule. He had no chance to return to the crease in time. He went too forward to hit the ball but he missed and had not enough time to return to the crease. 12:27 The other batsman's job is not be out by being in the crease. His other job is to run to the other crease so that they can score a run when the ball is in play after the striker batter hits the ball. Both the batter needs to run to the other crease to make 1 run. 14:49 Only 1 batsman is out at one time. If one of the batsmen is out then the other batsman will replace the batter who is out. His partner is not out. 15:17 One by one the fielding team needs to take the 10 of the 11 batsmen out. 15:28 What sides? When all the 10 batters are out then the inning is over. The batting team will field and the fielding team sends two batter to bat. Rest of the batter will wait for their turn to bat. 16:47 The illegal pitches are wides and no-balls. If the bowler does illegal pitches then the bowling team needs to redo the ball. 16:57 There is no concept of Bullpen in cricket. Another bowler comes in and continues to deliver 6 balls. The current batsmen are still in the game and not out yet. 17:33 Each team does not bat 20 times. It means the fielding/bowling team has to pitch/bowl 20 overs (20 * 6 ball = 120 ball total). 17:56 5 days of 1 match that has 2 innings each. 19:14 If one batsmen is out then he cannot bat in that inning. 10 batsmen out of 11 players in the team. 19:21 At this point in the game the other team needs 39 runs off 24 balls left. 39 is not the score they have already scored. It is the runs that they need to make at this point going forward. 19:49 They won by 3 wickets mean they beat the score with 3 players still to bat.

Each batsman can only bat once per innings, when a batsman is out they are replaced by the next batsman; after 10 of the 11 batsmen are out, that is an innings. The batting will now become the fielding team, and the fielding team will now have their chance to bat; once the second team is out, that is the end of the game when playing T20 or One Day. In Test cricket, each team can have two innings in which to attain the highest score; this game can last up to 5 days.

I’ll explain the crease to you, the white line. Think of it as just a base. You have to get back to the base before the fielder throws the ball through the wickets. You only get one bat. Once you’re out, you don’t come back. A new batter comes in.

There are two wickets down either end. If a batsman hits the ball, he can choose to run, or stay "home", if he runs, the other non striking batsman must run as well. (Sometimes there is miscommunication) the fielders can choose which set of wickets to throw too. Usually it is the striking end, as there is a wicket keeper ( baseball analogy a catcher) the batters try to get as many runs as possible (up and down the pitch) if it is a "single run" the batsman that wasn't on the striking end now is". There are better videos on rules of cricket, and it isn't that confusing once you get a rough idea

Each bowler must deliver 6 legal balls, this is called an over; the bowler can only bowl from one end, after which bowlers change. The next bowler will bowl to the batsman from the other end; each time bowlers change, they must change ends with the new bowler. Hope this isn't confusing you. The batsman at the non-striking end can only run after his partner has hit the ball, and it is safe to do so; the batsmen are not required to run after a ball is hit, if it is unsafe to do that.

Johnny I will try to give an easy explanation. First of all, there are eleven batsman. One batting and one partner. A bowl is bowled(pitched in baseball terms), the batsman tries to hit. If he hits some yards, the fielding team will try to catch if possible and if not at least try to prevent 4 automatic runs. Meanwhile, the fielding team is trying to fetch/field it, the two batsman run to their opposite ends. If they are successful in doing this it is a RUN. And they will try to take more and more, if the fielding team is lazy enough to not make the ball back to pitch on time where the batsman are running. The batsman can technically run infinite RUNS as long as the ball is not returned back to pitch. If the batsman does not reach opposite end but the fielder which is close to wickets receives it from his fielding teammates he will try to touch the wickets with the ball and try to knock off bails before batsman returns to the white line called crease. A successful run is dependent heavily on both batsman's fitness levels. They can try to play for the entire match if the bowling team is unable to get them out and this is considered legendary level batting(imagine standing in the sun batting for 4+hours in One day match). And the score you are trying to read like 143-4 means Out of 11 batsman 4 got out and they managed to bring the score to 143 runs on board(which includes running as well as 4s and 6s) and 7 are not OUT, of which 2 are on crease and remaining 5 are in dressing room waiting for their batting turn. About bowling, a pitcher/bowler bowls 6 legal balls(they should not include wide, high and No Balls) it is an OVER and a new bowler comes from one of the 10 remaining fielders to bowl this is different than baseball. The new bowler completes six legal balls to complete the new OVER. After which the previous bowler can be called back if he is needed in that game situation or maybe a third bowler can be called from the remaining 9 fielders. Generally, in a cricket team there are minimum 4 good bowlers(specialised in this), 5 good batsman(specialised in this) and 1 minimum wicketkeeper(the one standing behind the batsman trying to catch behind an edge shot tried by batsman or run out him if he goes way outside the crease trying to hit a lofty shot to get a 6/4 RUN) And 2/3 allrounders skilled with both bat and ball. Something or the other of the above combination constitutes a Team of total 11 players. Guess this helps a little. Thanks. Do watch the ICC T20 worldcup coming up in 2024 in USA. USA cricket team is in group stage with Canada, India, Pakistan and Ireland

Eithe wickets are vulnerable during the match when the batsmen are attempting to score runs; and either batsmen can be run out, if caught out of the crease. To get a batsman, who is out of their crease; the wickets must be hit with the ball, either by being thrown at the wickets or by the player standing at the wickets.

where you are getting confused over the run out is that from the point you started to watch the incident, the batsman had already started to run... he hit the ball, thought he could make a run and set off running, a split second later, he realised he wasn't going to make it to the opposite end of the pitch, so he turned and tried to make it back to his own end, where he would have been safe.....however, the fielding team were too quick for him, threw the ball in, and a fielder broke the wicket before the batsman got back, thus the batsman was "run out".. his batting partner, at the opposite end, saw that it wasn't possible to make the run, so he wisely stayed where he was....... getting run out in cricket almost always is as a result of a badly judged run on the part of the batsman , or a very smart quick bit of fielding by one of the fielders.......

As said, there is 11 players on the team. Only 2 of the batsmen can bat at a time. The length of the Wicket is 22 yards from the Bowling crease to the Batting Crease. They run from one end to the other sometimes facing the same bowler in the same over. Overs are 6 standard balls & are bowled from each end by 2 consecutive bowlers. There is bowling from each end. So that's why both batsmen are required. Legal balls are those pitched in the wicket zone which is 3 Meters on either side of the batsmen. That is a little less for a limited Over games such as 20/20 or One Dayer. A Ball pitched above the waist of the batsman (Full Toss), is a No Ball or if the ball is bowled too wide of the batsman or a Bouncer too far over the head of the batsman a Wide & they are Illegal balls & a penalty run is given to the Batsmen. Also if the bowler bends his arm while bowling, if the umpire considers it a throw, it is also a No Ball. If the wide ball or No Ball end up hitting the Boundary, 5 runs are given to the Batting team. If there is any equipment (such as a Helmet, or keeping Glove or any other Bowling team equipment on the ground) that gets hit by the ball on the field, not being worn by a player, 5 runs are given to the Batting team. If somehow the ball is lost, the umpire will call 6 runs & whatever runs may have been scored by the batsmen will also count. If a Batsman hits the ball & they take a run or more, if a Fieldsman throws at the stumps & misses & the ball hits the boundary, the Batting team gets the runs, run plus 4 for the boundary. Also, if a fieldsman deliberately hits or kicks a ball into the boundary, 5 runs is again added to the Batting team score. Each time a batsmen gets out, the next batsmen in line comes in until 10 are out or until the Captain of the batting team declared the Innings finished such as 6 Wickets out for 478 Runs. There is always at least 1 batsman that is Not Out at the end of his teams innings. Batting declarations can only happen in longer games of more than 3 days. Only the Wicket Keeper (them behind the stumps) are allowed to wear Gloves & Pads & if the ball comes off the bat & hits either without touching the ground, as long as the Keeper catches the ball, it is out. Other close in fielders can wear pads, BUT if the ball hit's the pads on the full from the bat, A batsman can't be given out caught. Once the Innings of the first batting team is over, the 2nd team starts their innings. Ask more questions if you don't understand what I wrote. There is more, but this is the basic's. P.S, International Test matches are the only ones held over 5 consecutive days.

Hi Johnny. 51 of 30 means that batter has scored 51 runs of 30 balls faced. There are two ends in cricket. One end is like home plate and the other end is like first base. So imagine that 1st base is at the pitcher's mound (and there is no mound). The ends switch after 6 balls. There is no foul hits in cricket and the ball can bounce. There are wides (wide ball) and no balls, but that is not important to begin with. The important thing is that there is one batsman (batter) at each end. The bowler tries to get the batter out by hitting the target behind the batter. The target called the wickets is made up of 5 pieces of wood. Three vertical called stumps and two small "bails" that rest on top. There are a few other ways a batter can get out including caught (like in baseball) and run out (similar to baseball). When 10 batters are out the side is out because there is only one left and you need two. The sub batter is a new thing. Sub fielders are not new, sub fielders are not allowed to bowl or bat. The main sub fielder is called "The 12th Man". When you see the score for a team there will be runs scored and wickets lost. Wickets is what it is called when a batter gets out. [Wicket can sometimes be the ground around the batters. So, it has three meanings. LOL Cricket sounds like it was invented by the Smurfs. LOL] But seriously a score of NY 123 - 4 means that NY have made 123 runs and lost 4 batters. In Australia we would say 4 for 123. This is the flip opposite of how everyone else does it. Every American says, "Why Australia?" at this point. 🤣 You know that there are only 10 wickets per innings so you can tell that the bigger number means runs scored. We will stick to the rest of the world method to avoid confusion. So, the bottom right of the screen will usually have the bowlers name and some numbers, example Brown 20-2. This means Brown has taken 2 wickets (got 2 batters out) and the other team has made 20 runs when Brown bowled. In a limited overs match you may see run rate required numbers or just L.A. need 40 runs from 20 balls to win. Watch some highlights from the T20 MLC in America and you will pick up a few things. You are right, it is nothing like Footy. Except the grounds are the same and that we are here to help. 😀 MLC teams are- MI New York 🔵🟦 L.A. Knight Riders 😎 San Francisco Unicorns 😜 🟠⚫ Texas Super-Kings 🤠 🟡🔴 Seattle Orcas 🐋🟢🟩 Washington Freedom 😪🔵🔴 Hey Johnny, there is a team called L.A. Knight Riders and there is a wrestler called L.A. The alteration of bowlers is key to the game, it allows the fielding captain* to mix up bowling styles and play to the strength of his fielders. Also to play to the ground, the pitch itself may not be central, the captain can load one side or another with fielders. Now here's the subtlety, because a batter doesn't have to hit every ball, they can become impatient and make a reckless shot, the bowlers know this and may deliver tempting balls to entice a bad hit and hence get the batter out, usually by creating a catching opportunity. Having bowlers interchange after each 6 balls, keeps the batters guessing and increases their anxiety, especially in Limited Overs Cricket where scoring runs fast is essential. Captains have an essential role to play in cricket, certainly when fielding as all decisions about tactics , strategy, field placings and bowler interchanges occur on the field, unlike in many other team sports the coach has no impact once the game is in play. Captains work before a match with coaches to pick the best side to face the opposition, work best with the ground and take advantage of the prevailing weather conditions.

Think of the two sets of stumps at either end as bases. You start with a batter on strike, and his partner the non-striker at the bowlers end. When the striker hits the ball that can choose to try to run to their partners end. If the reach the other stumps (base) they have scored one run. If the ball is thrown in and the stumps are broken at either end before the batter running there reaches safe ground then that man is out. After an over (6 balls) is bowled from one end another bowler then bowls 6 balls from the other end. Hence the two batters regularly swap the strike between them. One 10 wickets have been taken (the eleventh man cannot bat on his own) the innings is over and the team that fielded first have their turn to try to chase down the first teams total score.

Oh...... the scoring. In Australia we score wickets lost first then runs scored. So if 2 batsmen are out and the team has scored 257 runs, that is written as 2 / 257 In England they put the runs first.......257 / 2 In Test cricket runs are not enough to win. You must bowl the other side out twice to beat them..... 20 wickets and score more runs. If the scores are tied, it is a tied game. If no one takes 20 wickets the game is drawn. You get the other side out twice ( 20 wickets ) but don’t make more runs..... game is drawn.

Man as he said all 11 people on the team bat their are only 2 bats men of the 11 it bat at a time. 1 batter the bowler bowls ais called the on strike batter the other 1 stands at the bowlers end he is called the runner. The line in front of the wickets is called the crease to score a run the 2 runners run to the opposite wickets and if they make the crease they score 1 run and now the person who was the runner is now the on strike batter. Only 1 batter can get out at a time and he is replaced by 1 of the 9 in the stands sheld waiting to bat. The team is normally but not necessarily 5 specialists Batsmen, 1 wicket keeper ( backstop) , 2 specialists spin bowlers and 3 specialists fast bowlers. But they all bat.

Imagine baseball, only there are two batters up at a time, and two bases, one where the batter stands and one where the pitcher stands. You get runs by the two batters swapping which base they're on after the ball has been bowled - if they think they have time to make it the other side. You can run if you hit the ball, you can run if you don't. Whether you hit the ball has literally no consequence in terms of whether you're allowed to run. And they're never obligated to run. If they swap once they get one run and the other batter faces the next ball. If they run two the first batter is back where he started and they face the next ball. After 6 legal balls the bowler must stop bowling. 6 balls is an over. The batters stay where they were after the last ball of the over was bowled, and a new bowler bowls an over (6 balls) from the other end. In a T20 game the bowling team have to bowl 20 overs, and no bowler can bowl more than 4 overs. Typically 5 bowlers will bowl 4 each, but sometimes a team will use 6 or 7 bowlers and not all will bowl the maximum 4 permitted. Half your team of 11 need to be able to bowl. Subs do not bat or bowl - they are there solely for use in the field when the injured player's team is bowling. It is not a specialist position at all - indeed the players used tend to be lower level players not first team players.

It would have been better if he had not mentioned a "sub it just confused things. A substitute fielder is only used to replace an injured/unwell or temporarily absent fielder, he or she can only field, not bat or bowl. All the available bowlers (pitchers) are members of the fielding team; a bowler cannot bowl two overs (a set of six legitimate deliveries) in a row, so bowlers have to alternate. In a team of 11 everybody bats (if required to do so). In many teams the players selected for their batting ability will be in the top 7 generally, and include a wicket-keeper (catcher) and an all-rounder (a player who bats and bowls well), the numbers 8-11 will be selected for their bowling ability and are likely to be less-skilled batsmen. There is no such thing as "Accidental Out", I have no idea where he got that from!

I am not entirely certain that the video you have just watched is the best one you could have chosen...... I feel that the guy who made it assumes that the viewer has a basic grasp of the game, and therefore understands some of what he is saying, which in your case, where you admit to knowing absolutely nothing about the game, is not really of much use.....the game CAN seem very confusing, with bizarre names for the fielding positions, a peculiar scoring system and so many different ways for a batsman to be out, I can understand your obvious frustration! However, with regard to the batsmen, when a side begins batting, batsmen 1 and 2 come out to bat, then, when one of them is out, he leaves the field of play, and batsman number 3 comes out to take his place. When either of the two batsmen now on the field are out, batsman number 4 comes in, and so on until ten of the batting team's batsmen are out.......when that happens, the last surviving batsman is called off the field, and the fielding side now become the batsman and the batting side take the field as fielders.. at this point the side just out have a score given as (for example) 237 all out. The former fielding side then begin their innings, and attempt to reach or surpass the first total. The fielding side nominate a bowler(think pitcher) who will bowl 6 balls from one end of the pitch to the batsman at the other end.......after six balls, a different bowler will then bowl six deliveries from the opposite end.. so that play switches from end to end after every six balls.......each teams has a line up usually of four or five specialist batsmen, a wicket keeper(or catcher), maybe four or five specialist bowlers(pitchers) or sometimes an all-rounder(bats and bowls).... when a game is scheduled to last five days, it means that on each day, play begins at 11.00 am, continues to 1.30 pm then a forty minute break for lunch, resumes at 2.10 or so, and continues to 4.15, when they have a 15 minute break for tea, then resume until 6 or 6.30 pm. Believe me, on a glorious sunny day in June, there's no better or more civilised way to spend a day than sitting in the sunshine, with a couple of cold beers, a nice picnic and watching a day's cricket..........hope this has helped!

Whoever told you it's similar to baseball is lying. The only similarities between the two games is that both are a bat and ball game. That's it.

154 for 6! 154 is the amount of runs, and the 4 is how many wickets they have lost.

You are totally confused.. No, when you score a point its called a run. There are 2 batters on the field at a time. They don't use 2 batsman over and over again. When they get out they are replaced by another batter. There are 11 players on each side. What you didn't seem to get is that to score a run you have to hit the ball and run to the other crease, and with each run, the batters change places.

199-4 means that the batting side has scored 199 runs but have 4 batsman out (or dismissed. The 115 (55) for Saha means he has personally scored 115 runs from the 55 balls (or deliveries) he has faced), his partner 'Miller' ha obviously just come to the wicket because he has 0 (0) so he hasn't faced a ball yet and therefore he has not scored a run.

Did you see the Collingwood Vs Carlton game last night (Friday) Johnny? The Pies are top of the ladder and the Lions are sitting third with a really good chance of snatching second place this weekend. Also, good to see you back, hope you're feeling better. You're not gonna get the nuances of Cricket from a four minute video Johnny, don't overthink it mate, you'll give yourself a heart attack. It took me about 20 years to figure out the finer details so give yourself a break if you don't pick it up immediately. Cricket is to Chess like Baseball is to Checkers. Remember to breathe Johnny. Try to relax and allow that it might take some time to "get it". I'm sorry to say this but your confusion is making me laugh my head off, because, I can relate, for a newby it can be really hard to understand, but, like anything else, the more you see it the more you get it.

Lets go Lions!!!!!! Cldnt believe Carlton beat Collingwood BUT cant win em all!! Anyway, Brisbane is my #1 team and they need a quick turnaround after that ugly loss to the SUNS???!!!! We have a statement here in the NFL called "Any Given Sunday" meaning any team at any time can beat a team they have ZERO business beating(See Colts beating KC Chiefs last season) It happens! Anyway, HELL YES I was confused the entire video! This was a horrendous breakdown for newbies like me! Glad my frustration made you laugh😂😂 thanks for the support as always Mikey!! #BasementMentality

Yo Johnny Basement, I got a very good cricket video that you're gonna like. What if I was to tell you that there is a cricket video about Shane Warnw showing and explaining to you about the many ways and styles in throwing a cricket ball. The name of the cricket video is called Shane Warne-King of Spin- Leg Spin Tutorial. (KZbin Video By Fizzing Leg Break).

@@johnnybasement430 Hey, how's it going, my fellow sports buddy, bro? I got another cricket video for you to react to. The cricket video is called Ab De Villers Fastest 100 Of All Time. KZbin Video By KZbinr Super Sport. I know ya going to have questions about well Tommy what is this Ab De Villers and so in cricket? An Ab De Villers is like (imagine in baseball where the base ball batter that makes a lot of massive homeruns continously on and on (which is like making an automatic 6 runs in cricket when the ball goes into the crowd and or out of the stadium).

Make sure you tune into the Major League Cricket that is currently underway in America! This isn't the best video to explain things, as you rightly point out there are many things they don't explain. Wow the first concept you understand is LBW - which is what most people can't understand. :) Think of the second batsman as a runner on a base - just another player to get out with good fielding.

@tipptoggy
@tipptoggy 10 ай бұрын
The alteration of bowlers is key to the game, it allows the fielding captain to mix up bowling styles and play to the strength of his fielders.

Before you give up on cricket, please consider that this is a game of courage played by 60 yo men and women. The bowler is allowed to deliberately aim for a batsman’s or woman’s head...... a stock ball for a fast bowler. Batsmen have died and although no one wants that, it is part of the game. Fielders of any age can field at short leg or a very short , silly mid off...... only a 3 to 6 feet from the batsman, with no gloves allowed...... only the 2 batsmen and the wicket keeper are allowed gloves. Even in local club cricket , if you are fielding close to the batsman to add pressure...... you are still expected to catch everything. The ball is a rock a bit heavier than a baseball and can be travelling at way over 100 mph...... if you touch it or it hits you, and you DONT catch it, then most clubs will FINE you..... $5 in the season trip away box..... or even $10 in some clubs. Kids playing U15’s or playing D grade on a synthetic wicket ( concrete or melfoid )..... have to catch that flying rock, as do 60 yo men . Also...... watch a video on Shayne Warnes best wickets ..... there are a few of them. Watch him make the ball drift to the right and drop suddenly...... getting the batsman’s feet into a bad position...... And then spinning ( turning ) at right angles back the other way.......sounds impossible, but he died a legend loved in all cricketing countries because he could do that. lol

FFS forget bases, this not baseball. There is a wicket at each with a batting crease (white line), the batsmen must cross that line at the opposite end to score a run, in doing so they change places. The 'striker becomes the non-striker and vice versa. You also need to grasp that cricket is a much higher scoring game than baseball, so a score of, say, 154-6 (154 runs for six batters out) is an average sort of score; no one is getting 'hammered out there, in fact if the fielding team can remove the other batters fairly quickly they will probably be in a good position to win.
