Don't forget the Jockey, Victor Espinoza. He did a great job and he donated all of his Belmont Stakes winnings to charity. He is also the first Mexican and Latino to ever win the triple crown. Congrats Mr. Espinoza and American Pharoh!!

June 6, 2015 was my 23 birthday. It was also the day my grandmother lost her battle with cancer. She died a few hours before the Belmont, around 3pm. I was grief stricken, but I took a break in packing my suitcase to watch the race and said a short little prayer for AP as they loaded in the gates. When they turned for home and AP pulled ahead...I stood up and just burst into tears. I'll never forget that moment. I experienced the entire spectrum of emotion that day. I am forever grateful for American Pharoah, because even in what seemed like my darkest hour, he was the light.

Undeniably, the greatest sporting event I have ever attended! The 147th Belmont Stakes was nothing short of historic. I was able to share a memory with my mom that can never be duplicated. She loves horses, and has been talking about Secretariate and the impossible Triple Crown for years. She called me up earlier this week and reminded me that the race was this weekend. After her call, I immediately booked last minute tickets to an event neither of us have ever attended. Surprise mom, guess what... we're going! Front row, grandstand seats! I have never seen her so happy in all my life, and her happiness was my happiness. And somehow, in some weird way... I knew this was the year. I cannot describe how I feel today, knowing the results of the race, but this high I'm on will last me the rest of my life. 37 years of waiting for a Triple Crown winner, and the one year I take my mom to the track... it happens. Congratulations to American Pharoah! The race and memory of a lifetime.

The last Triple Crown was nine months before I was born. I didn't think I'd ever see it again after seeing so many horses fade in the last 1/8 mile. I thought the sport had changed too much and the horses couldn't be trained to do it anymore. But he made it look easy. It's not every day you see someone live up to the hype, but this horse is every bit the worthy successor to his fellow Triple Crown winners.

Yesterday in the coverage they mentioned that early on it was noted that he had a very easy gliding stride, and it's totally evident. Watch closely as they come down the back stretch. He takes pretty much one stride while the other horses almost take two. It's like a study in efficiency of motion!!!!

Still hard to not get teary-eyed watching this race. I was born in 1996, and can remember watching Funny Cide, Smarty Jones, Big Brown, I’ll Have Another, and California Chrome all fall just short of the Triple Crown. I wondered if I’d ever see it happen, and then American Pharoah came along. I still remember him entering that last stretch, watching it on TV at my house, knowing this is the point where so many other horses fell short. Pharoah’s lead continued to grow over Frosted and I knew he had it. I was jumping up and down, hugging my parents, shocked and amazed that I had just witnessed the 37 year drought come to an end. Larry Collmus was right, American Pharoah truly is the “horse of a lifetime!” Hopefully Bob Baffert is able to pull it off again with Justify in a couple weeks!

What an amazing moment in history. I was watching at home with my parents. My dad is a MASSIVE horse racing fan, as he spends many Sundays at Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs, Arkansas. I remember we were all on the edges of our seats during the entire race, and when that horse crossed the finish line, we were all crying and very emotional. My dad thought he would never live to see another triple crown winner. And wouldn’t you know, it happened again the next year!

And now American Pharaoh in almost messianic proportions makes me witness something special. Something I'll remember for all time. We may not see one again for 37 years people. Soak it in. And to those calling for the cheapening of the crown by changing it.....This is why you don't. Because American Pharaoh wears his crown without an asterisk!

TC stands for 'Triple Crown'(ie comprehension). "I was born in 78 and as a racing fan I always felt it was such cruelty to have just missed seeing a TC winner." This of course is a reference to *Affirmed*, not *Secretariat*. BUT, through intuition and not knowledge, some clamoring jabroni comes along and alludes to Secretariat, completely irrelevant to the OP as they *try* to contribute to the conversation in some way. THEN, this guy comes along, this 'ROB C' guy, who actually comes here to support the a) wrong b) inaccurate c) flat out ignorant allusion to Secretariat. Rob, in your quest for "'reading comprehension'," I strongly recommend 'Power' by Robert Greene and 'Think Twice' by Michael Mauboussin, because when suggestively insinuate others have no "'reading comprehension'" in an effort to defend those who are *wrong*, it's actually irrefutable proof that your brain is operating in deconstructive functions. I have *hope* for you; good luck.

After the sad results of Barbaro and Eight Belles, this was such a relief. My grandfather heard Seabiscuit win on radio in 1938, my mom watched Secretariat win on tv in 1973 and I got to watch American Pharoah win on tv in 2015. I'm so glad all three of our generations got our own dose of epicness:)

As a 14 year old, I have to say that this is probably the greatest sports moment I will ever witness live in my life. I was born and raised into the sport via my father, may he and my mother RIP. They were alive in 1978, we were together and my father and Steve Cauthen shared his cake crumbs in the jock's room at Latonia/Turfway Park when he returned to Kentucky. But now my three sons and one tiny grandson have a Triple Crown champion in their lifetime. Salute Tradition, Excellence and Life Blood. Gratitude to owners Ahmed, Joanne, Justin... The Zayat Family, trainer Bob Baffert, jockey Victor Espinoza and our equine hero, American Pharoah. Congratulations to us, it's a feel good moment forever. #DDay 2015 Blessings to you ALL.

I'm only 20 and this is probably the only time that I have seen something truly beautiful happen in my life time. Watching Secretariat win the triple crown, the first man to walk on the moon, the Miracle on Ice. All are moments that people will never forget and cherish in their hearts and even bring a tear to your eyes. I'm not even a huge horse racing fan, but there's something about watching an amazing horse win the triple crown that's almost surreal. It was a beautiful experience and I hope to have many more experiences like this in my life.

@kranftle 9 жыл бұрын
Joshua Martin I certainly hope they'll at least keep him racing until the Classic. I know that at this point it's a cost-benefit question for the investment and risking an injury... but I just really want to see if he can take the season on in full.
@facetiousbadger
@facetiousbadger 9 жыл бұрын
Roscoe Fauni I don't think so just because they're going to want to give him a shot at the Breeder's Cup, and he'll have to have a stakes race between now and then to keep up his fitness. But he's pretty much guaranteed to be retired afterwards. It's a shame they don't have longer careers these days, but the breed has been linebred back to Northern Dancer so much that they're too unsound to take the risk.

32 years old. Grandmother used to live very close to the track where Belmont is held. Grew up hearing stories, ghosts of the past since I was born in November 1982 and the last to win was in 1978. Grandma used to wax lyrical about Secretariat's win, but as each year passed I thought I would never see such a race myself. Today, Secretariat must be in heaven looking proudly at his descendant American Pharaoh-"Well done, my boy. I told God you could do it."

I think everyone misses the true point of Secretariat's real victory. The time is a record, yes. Several horses have come close to it. The REAL awe & wonder of his victory was the 31 and a half lengths that he won it by! THAT is what makes him the Wonder Horse.
@Whoopdido777
@Whoopdido777 4 жыл бұрын
@@suehart3965 No horse has come close to his time. Secretariat ran 2:24. The second fastest time was Easy Goer in 1989 at 2:26. Had Secretariat been running against Easy Goer (the second fastest ever) that day, he still would have won by 10 lengths. And what I really would have liked to see is what he could have done as a 4 or 5 year old. That’s when thoroughbreds peak. Why they run the Triple Crown races when they’re 3 is stupid. The horses are too young and immature at that point.
@suehart3965
@suehart3965 4 жыл бұрын
@@Whoopdido777 Yes, 2 seconds in a horse race is an eternity, I'll admit. But not in real time. But when I said many had come close, I was talking under 3 sec. from his time. But I still say, 31 lengths is still what is phenomenal about Secretariat. And yes, I, too, would've loved to have seen what he could've done as a 4 & 5 year old! Secretariat will always be considered the greatest of all time in my eyes. Ciao!
