Throughout the entire saga, the thing I like most is how genuine and wholesome Jim's relationship is with his dad. There's a line way down the line (I think American Wedding) where Michelle makes a comment about why she went to him for advice (not a big moment but still... no spoilers) and he puffs up with pride. And I swear I get teary-eyed every time at the payoff and confirmation about how important he is to Jim.

If you enjoyed the humor of this one, the rest of the series is worth watching. As with this first one, some moments did not age well, but there is some great stuff throughout. Eugene Levy is brilliant in all of them, as the dad who is trying so hard to be supportive and helpful, while at the same time being constantly mystified by the things he finds he needs to help with. And Alyson Hannigan is so much fun throughout.

In an interview a few years ago the directors said that they felt a degree of responsibility for Natasha Lyonne's drug problems because it was either during or soon after the filming of this that she got into heroin and they felt that they hadn't really taken into account how young the cast actually were and how much responsibility they had towards taking care of them.

The song American Pie is actually about "the day the music died" when Buddy Holly, The Big Bopper and Richie Valens died in a plane crash in 1958. This movie reset the raunchy level for teen comedies. Mena Suvari (Heather) did this abd American Beauty the same year. Alyson Hannigan is awesome. I believe "Say my name, bitch!" was an adlib. I met Eddie Kaye Thomas (Finch) at a Buffy fan party in 2003. He was a guest of Alyson's. The online world is pretty old. I joined the Buffy online Fandom in the summer of 1997.

The "American Pie" series is great. Hilariously funny and yet it has heart. All the characters are well written and seem like real people. There are so many great scenes and jokes it makes you laugh from begining to end. The cast is excellent and Eugene Levy as the father is perfect. So funny! I love the entire series. I just subbed guys. Please watch the other films in the series.

An awesome movie with Sean William Scott is "Role Models" he's kinda an adult stiffler in it but slightly toned down. But he's great in it and it's one of my favorite movies. It's freaking hilarious.

Anyone else think Finch had strong Nic Cage energy in the Mrs. Robinson scene? I'm born around the same time as the cast and I never watched this back in the day, and now I'm a dad of two teenagers and I'm watching this lol. Oddly enough, I thought the Lacross/Choir love story was really sweet. If this was remade, I can imagine Casey Affleck's character going, "It's time I got you introduced to the bible", but Kevin would just answer, "Bro, I've been on AO3 since I was 12, I don't need your f***ing book."

It is true that 'internet rules' were slowly getting stablished by that time, but that doesnt mean privacy as a social and legal standard in general wasnt a thing back then. There are several articles on the internet talking about the broadcast plot point in the movie and how it would have been, if charges were presented, a criminal offense in the US considering only the statutes and precedents existent at the time the movie was released. I would add it would have been a criminal offense pretty much everywhere it is an offense today. For example, back then recording a sexual act on a handycam without the consent of the other person and, more so, distributing it was a criminal offense that was charged more than a few times. That wasn't unheard of and what happens in the movie is comparable as we clearly understand these days. What Jim did was not only reprehensible, it was a crime like it would be today. If anything, that episode in real life would have been a precedent of today's internet legal standards.
