Just so you know. The world snooker championship starts tomorrow (20th April) 10am UK time. The reigning champion, Luca Brecel is up first against Dave Gilbert (it will be a cracker of a match).

It doesn't let you concede because you can still win by snookering your opponent so she fouls and gives you points, it's a big part of the game, hence the name.

Like most newbies you fall into the trap of trying to go for every possible pot. Try playing the percentages more, if the pot has a lowish chance of going in, play a safety shot trying to place the white ball (and other balls) in the most disadvantageous position for your opponent as possible. The game is much more about control of the balls than just potting them. Experiment with the use of side, top, and bottom (back) spin on the white ball to help control where it ends up. If at the end of the frame if you are just 4-8 points shy (needing just one or two snookers) and there are balls still on the table play on and try to force your opponent into playing a foul shot. A player called Cliff Thorburn (nicknamed 'The Grifter') won frames even though he needed several snookers to do it. If you check out some of the matches from the 70's & 80's (Steve Davis, Ray Reardon, Alex Higgins were some of the top players back then.) there was more tactical snooker style playing rather than the more modern faster big break pot all the balls in one go style. The difference in the speed of the table and cloth between snooker and pool is rather like the difference between the fairways and the fast greens in golf, it is down to the length of the the fibers of the cloth just like the length of the grass on a golf course.

Good advice here. Thorburn's nickname was The Grinder, not The Grifter,, I made a post myself that really this computer game is ok to get to understand the rules but the real game is light-years differant. You're right about the tactical nature of the game in the 70's and 80's, then along came Hendry and upset the apple cart and much like Bruce Lee destroyed the old-school traditions of ancient martial arts he came on scene and made their traditions look foolish. Hendry did much the same thing. That said, the tactical nature of the game is very very important, the name Snooker means safety. Once again, this computer game where people take on every shot is fine for a computer game but it wouldn't fly in the real world. You could quickly unlearn that bad habit by adding a wager to the game. You would learn a safety game then or go broke. Bottom line, online/digital pool games are fine for passing time or for learning the basic rules but one would never be able to translate any 'skill' they have to a real table against real players.

Your aiming like you would on a pool table, the pockets on a snooker table are much smaller, and they are rounded rather than edged so the way the ball reacts to them is totally different, trust me you’ll see if you get to play on a full size real table it’s crazy.

I know that the Brits are all twisted up about snooker being pronounced snoooookur but you can easily forgive someone pronouncing oo the same way they would pronounce looker, cooker, booker, hooker, etc. I've been around a lot of snooker players from all over the World and it's only the Brits that get all pedantic about it. Sometimes I say snuker just to get a rise out of some know-it-all. You can see the steam coming out of their ears.. Notice to all pedants, take a chill-pill, it's not that important.

You need to try and put the ball in to a Snooker shot. Click a colour and tap it at 2% if close to it. That way she would have to bounce off a edge to hit a red.
@mistycrom
@mistycrom Ай бұрын
points available are maximum possible, so, if you were to pot red, then black, red, then black etc... potting the blue is scoring under the maximum. 2 blues vs 2 blacks is a 4 point difference, and moreso if you pot lower value balls vs the black. 2 main things you need to work on - in my own opinion - are being mindful of where the cueball will go for your next shot (not even 3-4 shots down the line, just the next shot will make a huge difference), thinking about what spin and how hard you want to pocket a ball. And also, not splitting the reds on your break. you want them to stay together as much as possible and either bring the cue-ball back behind the D, or put it right against the reds. And that was 6 frames... best of 7. The first round at the World championships is best of 19. Then 25, 25, 33, then 35 frames (18 frames to win).

I'll try and help you... When it says you need 28 points and 30 are on the table for example... This means you need reds with all Black's. So if you go for a red then a yellow that's 1 point for red & 2 points for yellow so =3 instead of 8 for a red anf black so you immediately need a snooker to gain point's. You need to always think ahead. Hope this helps buddy. Just because you need 1 snooker doesn't mean it's over. I have watched games here in UK where Selby has got 5 snookers in a frame to go on and win. No professional will concede especially if reds are on the table, the more balls on the table the better for the snooker🙂. If there was say pink and black and needed 1 snooker then players would concede but 1 snooker is nothing to get.

Correct and also the curvature of the jaw compared to a straight cut on a pool table. The square-cut jaws on a pool table are designed to 'throw' the ball into the pocket to make it easier to sink balls, the curved-cut jaws on a snooker table are exactly the opposite. They are designed to 'throw' the ball out of the pocket unless it is hit very accurately. This pocket design is perhaps the single biggest differance between the games. Another differance is the the "throat" design. The ratio of pocket opening to ball size is MUCH smaller on a snooker table. This differance is another reason that playing on a snooker table is much much harder to sink balls than on a pool table. When you see the pro's on tv you might get the impression that sinking balls is the same as on a pool table because they are so so so good. Anyone that thinks this needs to step up to a snooker table, just once, and try to pot a ball that they would make easily on a pool table. I don't care how good of a pool player you are, ranked, MVP in one of the big leagues, etc. Just take one shot on a snooker table and you will quickly learn that the table 'ain't no pool table'. Cheers.

Even when you do not have enough points left on the table to catch up, you can still win by getting your opponent to foul. For instance, let's say you're 33 points down with only the colours (27 points) left on the table. If you can make your opponent foul on the black ball (7 points to you) and then pot all the colours you'd win. Of course, there comes a point where the chances of winning are so remote as to not make trying worthwhile, but yes, if you can snooker your opponent behind another ball there's points available to you.

Angles Look different because there is way more to it thatn people realize. When we play in Real Life, we are looking down from an elevated position, and then we go down into a POV position. our brains are building mental map of what is in front of us and using both the top down data and the 1st person data to help guide our aim. Try playing by starting out in the top down view, then switching to the 1st person, may be flick back and forth between them also. This might help your aim.
@rikmoran3963
@rikmoran3963 Ай бұрын
I don’t think you are appreciating the difference in size between a pool table and a snooker table. The angles on a snooker table have to be reduced as the ball has further to travel than on a pool table. Also, as others have mentioned the pockets are a lot smaller!
@shmupperfromhell
@shmupperfromhell Ай бұрын
You're starting to notice it's not just the size of the table! Snooker balls have much more momentum than pool balls, both american and english pool sets. Pool sets almost seem like they have brakes on them once you get to used snooker balls! ^^

One thing that is very strange about this game is that after contact the Cu-ball keeps running several inches further than it should. It is really weird. Another item you mentioned is that shots that you would make normally are not going., Welcome to a snooker table son. Potting balls is WAYYYYY harder than a pool table. I still hope that you will get to play on a real table.. One other little thing I have never seen a computer snooker game that actually plays like the real thing. Some are close, including this one, but they never get it quite right, like the cue-ball travelling further than it should and if you try high-level English/spin the ball response if you come off a rail with the spin will be wrong. This is a fun little game, good entertainment maybe, but as for helping you with mechanics if you ever play on a real table.. Not! It's kind of the equivilant of Zinga poker and sitting at a real table. You may be a zen-master at Zinga poker but you will get demolished by reasonably skillful real players. Same analogy as playing this game...Fun , but not a good teacher except for learning the basic rules..

Easiest trick to remember which balls are worth the most, is by looking at the starting positions. You know the black ball is worth 7 points, and is the coloured ball worth the most. You then just go by proximity to the black ball. Pink is closest, so it will be 6 points. After that blue is closest, so it will be 5 points. After that brown is closest, so it will be worth 4 points. You at that point only have to remember that the green is 3 points and the yellow 2 points, as those two are at equal distance of the black ball. But generally you don't want to go for the three balls on the starting D to begin with, because they are worth fewer points.
