What an awesome review from someone who knows (and loves) the film well and owns the Blu-ray (and knows that well)! Thanks so much, you answered so many questions I had as I am a huge fan of the film and I've watched the Blu-ray version at least a zillion times. I needed to know the small details that the 4K version offered over the Blu-ray and you really nailed it. Now back to listening to Sussudio!!!! I subscribed!

Amazing 4k-Dolby Vision transfer (curious now as to how it looks in HDR-10 by comparison) and what a gloriously maniacal performance by Bale! The whites and highlights were so incredibly super-bright on my 2016 LG OLED that I didn't even need to pull the dynamic contrast trigger that I admittedly (and wrongly, from what I read, lol!) do on some films, because the blacks are so deep on the OLED, they're almost TOO deep in some films and can sometimes crush shadow detail without that needed boost in middle-dark tones that dynamic contrast provides... My one issue with my overall incredible OLED with both HDR-10 and Dolby Vision content is sometimes finding a baseline brightness setting that doesn't make the baseline black/shadow levels look too visibly gray while trying to improve shadow brightness/detail, yet also being mindful not to clip/blow out the bright areas... It's so ironic how we seek deep black levels, only to find that once we get them, they can often be TOO black in relation to the brights (e.g., a daylight scene where the area of someone's face in the sun is blindingly bright, yet the shadowed part is a bit too dark considering it's supposed to be daytime), yet boosting the baseline shadow brightness too much can also easily render blacks too bright, resulting in gray shadow areas (the very thing we're supposed to be avoiding as videophiles LOL!)! Of course, some movies require more brightness/contrast fiddling to get an ideal dark/bright balance than others... Any suggestions!??? Surround sound is also quite awesome in 7.1 even without the height speakers!

Great review Andrew. Was hoping someone did a decent review before i picked this up. I didnt want to blind by as i did the blu ray which was trash. Picking this up and Halloween as well. Then next month its The Evil Dead and Evil Dead 2. Hope those will look great.

Holy cow brotha what a mixed bag. Just watched this and I was slightly disappointed. It's not the worst but the transfer was spotty. The threesome scene was a huge disappointment. Through the camera it was out of focus and the rest of the scene grainy and not sharp. Then the scene it was great again. So odd the picking and choosing scenes to improve. Still the best we'll ever get so I appreciate the buy. Cheers.
