This movie/story has come full circle, made to alert people to the overwhelming desire to appear as someone better to others because of social constructs which will in turn make people psychologically unhealthy, then memed on as a joke for guys trying to be "big shots", then taken seriously by those same guys, then made popular by men who have no success projecting their desire to be attracive through Bateman making them stuck in a loop of dissociation from their reality making them unable to work on what really matters by creating a false group of support, "it's not me it's them", becoming just as mentally sick as Bateman trying to live in their fantasy so hard that they stop being able to tell what is real and a joke and proving the movie right. We're entertaining the creation of psychosocial behavior through fake social interactions. Truely beautiful.

only part I fully disagree with is that they can't tell what's real and what's a joke. They can tell perfectly well, it's not ignorance, it's just apathy, they blend reality with comedy because they genuinely have lost the ability to care, or have given up on their principles. While I think the aspect of the movie coming full circle is definitely ironic, I think it was inevitable due to the circumstances we find ourselves in as a society... The people you mentioned are undoubtedly sick, but so is just about everyone now. Industrial revolution yada yada, modernity and "we live in a society" yada yada, I'm sure you've heard it before, but for good reason. We witness the symptoms, not the sickness, every moral structure and psychological normativity has been deconstructed in the last century, tensions are higher than ever, hatred is harbored and maybe with good reason, what I'm getting at is this; When you live in a place that's fucked, the people are gonna be fucked. The reality is that you and I, as well, are just as fucked, but it's our own brand of "fucked" so we hardly ever see as so.

Nothing to do with the review but I really don't understand how Patrick is this sigma king that everyone admires. There's really not much sigma about him, I mean look at the business card scene. This guy is so obsessed with status and how measures up to people that he barely knows that he literally starts sweating and has a meltdown. The Urban Dictionary defines sigma males as "While the alpha male quantifies himself on his high position in the social hierarchy, a sigma male prefers to forego the social hierarchy and need for external validation" Bateman is literally the oppsoite of a sigma male and probably one of the most insecure people you could use an example. You want a sigma male? Mad Mikkels Hannibal from the TV series who absolutely dunks on Hopkins depiction.

society and men changed the entire idea of the American psycho. originally the movie was supposed to be a scathing critique of how people, particularly businessmen, and how they used to act. it showed the mind of a wealthy, rich person in American society as it was. however, kids, today turned this into a movie that idolizes being cold and disassociated from reality and the rest of the world. they look up to Bateman being a literal psychopath. its honestly sad to see 12 and 13 year olds butcher the movie like this
