Thanks for this!! Hadn't seen this video but love the song. Very empathetic of her to have the young and old representations of her father contrasting the love/hate contrast. The table lengths and all her written pages really got me in tears. And when she finally faces us and she is alone and surrounded by much more brightness it really shows her strength in being able to pull herself up given her feelings toward her father.

This blew my mind the first time I heard this, probably because it resonated so much with me. What a great way to talk about your issues with abandonment, whilst working through the trauma in order to move on, this is the epitome of "The pen is mightier than the sword". Little Simz is exceptionally talented and this just shows her progression personally and musically . The video compliments the message perfectly, from the opening sequence, which to me represents reflection of the darkness within the mind, through to the final sequence when Simz is out in the light, and moving freely with the realisation her father was young and probably had his own demons to deal with. Apparently there's a short film with the same title that Simz also acted in, I haven't seen it yet, but I have never been disappointed by her so far! Great reaction Joe E and you didn't go on to long for me, I could listen and talk a lot more about this piece of art, as you can see from my long comment 😉. Link to the film, just watched it; kzbin.info/www/bejne/nYmuYZR5l8mKZsUsi=09mR81Kl-yK808hE

In the scene where its pulling back from her face and upper torso seated at the table with all the attempts at the letter or rap she was trying to write to her dad, her sclera are the most exceptional glowing crescent moons, I don't think I have ever seen a brighter white! That is by far my favorite shot and I totally agree that it was a great idea and an incredible shot Piercing is exactly right; her eyes are shoving a tack straight through my wings up on her trophy board.. skewing me in place, riveted

I had not heard this one before. Wow! This was deep, and beautiful, and sad, and very emotional. It is not the first time I've been impressed by her. I really need to the time to listen to more.. Loved your reaction/analysis.

Ah - been waiting for you to do this for ages and knew you’d love it (I’ve requested you do this a few times in the comments of other reactions) 👍. That section leading up to and straight after the sperm donor lyric/line - 😮👌 every time, the goose bumps it gives me and I’ve heard it literally dozens of times.

I known moms who checked out (not the mom, but single fathers or a child of that situation). Of course, I've known dad's who have done that as well. Parenting is hard, but it's so worth putting in the effort. I am a single parent, but thankfully my kid's dad has always been there for him, even though we've lived in two different states for most of his childhood (work reasons). He's with dad right now again, for work related reasons on my part. But, it's good that he also gets some time with him since he's spent most of his childhood with me (he's a teen now). Anyways.. great breakdown and song by lil simz. It is a good reminder to make sure your kids know you care. Even if you live with them that doesn't always mean that's the impression they get.
