When Proton had a few financial problems in early 2000 the Government of Malaysia instructed Petronas to borrow RM1.2Billions to Proton .....so in Malaysia they are seen as a Hero they rescued alot smaller business in our Country

Petronas is not only a Oil& Gas company it has its hand in everthing ie 1)Oil &Gas 2)Ship Building 3)Engine R&D ( they made the EO1S Engine Project With sizes of 2L ,2.2L and a 2.4L Turbo that makes 400ps of power its sad thay made these for Proton's Stillborn Sportcar (Codenamed SepangGT) 4) They also make the FP1Foggy bike

The reason why Proton didnt want to use these engine is because at that time Proton was in seacresy making the SENG Engine Project a 3L and 3.3L V6 Powerplant which rumourd to make about 390ps +450nm of power .... yea i know proton lost big time

they also investing in bioengineering stuff. biooil etc. Also petronas invest a lot of competition. I think a group from University of Sheffield get sponsored as well. They do have competition to build formula 1 engine yearly

As long as the partnership produces championship results, Petronas and Mercedes will still continue. Mercedes has to sell her vehicles in ASEAN while Petronas has to keep her brand on the lips of people around the world.

I love Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 livery especially during 2019. The most iconic one was during 2016 of two rivalry fighting for champion, Hamilton and Nico. One of my favourite is the BMW Sauber Petronas F1 livery.

It is not that the team is sponsored by Petronas but the car also use Petronas lubricants and gasolin/petrol to race. Some Mercedes car dealerships use Petronas lubricants as OEM. Motogp Yamaha bikes for team Petronas Yahama SRT also use Petronas lubricants and petrol.

Its wierd than in 2010 Malaysia had 3 Formula 1 Teams ie 1)Mersedes AMG Petronas 2)Lotus F1 team (owned buy Proton Holdings) 3)Team Lotus F1/ Caterham F1 Team ( owned Air Asia and Tune Group by Tony Fernandez ) Yea it was crazy in those 6 years seeing Lotus F1 fighting Caterham F1 and they will take out each other... all of this to the amusement of all of us Malaysians .... Ice ing in the cake was that Tony and Dany Bahar (Lotus CEO) hates each others guts the Twitter war between these two was enought to make a Movie

Sauber..team from swiss. Use ferrari engine. With petronas..they form spe..sauber petronas engineering. That they copy n made ferrari engine. Spe also build car 2000cc & superbike engine. Karamjit used for rally. In the end..rumours that proton & china car bought the engine design. Superbike..also have very sad funny interesting story. At 1st, they form team for motogp then turned for worldsbk. With regulations changes.. from 1000cc turn 900cc then turn back to 1000cc that caused they Foggy Petronas FP1 programme stucked. What a costly waste.
