Messis nickname is la pulga which means the flea and this video showcases the reason well. He is flying around defenders like an annoying flea. Yes also, great observation, he is not flashy with his dribbling but the most effective. A flashy move will maybe will look much cooler but it will make you pass 1 or 2 defenders. Messi leaves a team behind by one simple move, you don't even realize what happens. Headers are said to be his weakness because he is short but it is kind of a weak weakness lol, he still scored a lot and more often than anyone else, just not often with his head but foot. Its also funny that he scored one of his most important goals with his head . Also when he was younger people used to say he lacked a leadership ability to lead his team. This was the argument when Argentina lost a lot of finals. Messi was playing godly but its still a team sport, so they couldn't couldn't criticise him on the pitch. Now of course he had won everything with Argentina while making a point of him being a great leader. You feel his dominance in football conversations because he achieved everything and improved on everything that could be nitpicked as a weakness. Any debate seems silly now. He had quite a few muscle injuries early in his career, but he worked on it and became quite injury resistant, of course he still had couple later, but he is very durable compared to a lot of players.

strangely enough in his almost 20 year pro career messi has never had a major injury even though he has been on the end of some of the most horrific tackles in the last decade.....

@@bigkevreacts you can watch some neymar highlights as well ....he is also one of the best dribblers in the world and has godlike skills but he has always been injured atleast for a significant portion of a season for the last 7 years..mostly because he has a very active nightlife and loves to party as do so many superstar footballers....messi and cr7 are the biggest stars in the world but they are very obsessed with the sport so their nightlife is non existent as they only focus on being in the best conditon possible

I’m old enough to have seen Pele , Maradona, Cryuff , play live and all the rest of later greats …..Messi is above them all to the point that a new class had to be created ….Messi Class. It’s not only because he’s blessed with God given talent but because his love and focus , dedication to the sport maximizes those abilities. We’ve seen other greats not live up to their full potential due to distractions from lustful pursuits ….he was never victim to that. It was futball since he could walk , childhood friend , first love , who became his wife, and futball. His father and family takes care of all business and money issues…..his only focus is futball. That itself is a rarity. And this is why he’s at the level he’s at …..he maximized his talent to the fullest possible degree……and the world is blessed for it . Thanks for your video Peace

Yeah he was able to put together all the pieces and never get distracted or seriously hurt.

He's not particularly good at taking penalties and missed crucial ones throughout his career. He's also quite introverted which hampered him to truly rally the troops as a team captain when things got rough, although this gradually changed as he grew older. Other than that, there's no weakness in his game. He also never had any major injuries despite the enormous amount of games he played and the quite aggressive treatment from opposing defenders. He's a cheat code. You've made some savage cuts in the compilation.

George Best was one of the grgeatest of his era, (frequently fouled as he could go past any defender,) and the recently deceased Bobby Charlton were also great players of their era. You have to remember that the game has changed over the latest era, pitches where Messi plays will have underground heating and drainage to keep a perfect surface all year round whereas in the past pitches varied in quality sometimes frozen solid at other times like a quagmire. Also th eball is now lighter and made more accurately so that the flight is truer and easier to control whereas in the past the leather ball, not just heavier but would absorb water in the worst conditions increasing it's weight, making it more difficult to control and predict the flight, it was also laced where it was closed so that the inflated bladder inside could be changed with outside seams which affected the shape and hence the flight.

@@bigkevreacts Glad to help, I've had marks like a scar across my forehead when heading an original, wet, heavy leather ball and the laced seam comes into contact with the skin. one of my personal favourite players was a striker called Jeff Astle who had two left feet as we say but was a marvellous scorer with his head. Unfortunatley later in life the constant blows to the head left him with dementia and he died too young. If I were you I'd try to find some clips of George Best, played for Man U.there will be plenty on KZbin, he was built like Messi and could go past half a team. Also for some lovely right wing skills Laurie Cunningham who played for West Bromwich Albion (my team) in the 70s He could have been a ballet dancer To quote: "If you could weigh raw talent, Laurie Cunningham was probably the heaviest man ever to play for the Albion. Graceful, balletic, smooth, he was everything the purist would want in a footballer" Laurie was complemented on the right by Cyril Regis a powerful, tenacious, strong man almost impossible to knock off the ball, and both supported from midfield with Brendon Batson. They were some of the first Black players in the league (first division - which is now the Championship) and they wqere affectionately known as the 'Three Degrees' after the singing croup of the time. They all represented, with Jeff, the National team at some level or other.

The captain is naturally gifted. He surely improved over the years and adapted in order to evolve...but he was always special. Please check the following video, of him playing when he was 6 in Argentina. "This Is How Lionel Messi Played Before Joining Barcelona"

Messi is not flashy, but effective. If he wanted to be flashy, he could do it too. As others have mentioned here, the only other ones in the league of Messi are from the past, and from the distant past: Maradona and Pele. Regarding debates comparing Messi vs other players, as there are no more football arguments to keep denying that Messi is the greatest, nowadays anti-Messi opinions are mostly based in conspiracy theories (one of this days days they are going to make Georgio Tsoukalous say that aliens are helping Messi because he is one of their own). You could say his aerial abilities is there to be desired. But the teams that he played for don't rely on long balls tactics, but short passing one, so it doesn't matter. Even tho he has a lot of headed goals

There is no debate about messi and ronaldo only maybe in america that people dont know much about football they dont even know what position messi plays .messi is by far the best player ever lived it is an insult to compare messi with ronaldo an insult to the king of sports . ronaldo is not even in top 10 in best players in history ronaldo is a stricker he cant read the game he cant pass he cant change the game plus he is very arogant and plays for him he is good for advertising sampoos but in football he is just a stricker . most of the goals ronaldo scores are penaltys going to the gym cant make you top player . Like Graeme Souness said, he is the best player that's ever kicked a football. Obviously there are players who are considered among the greatest, but not in Messi's level and no one who has the numbers he does.
