My favorite funny moment with the Queen is when President George Bush (#2) was speaking about her arrival in America and, he said something like "you joined us 1776 for our bicentennial". He quickly realized the mistake and changed it to 1976. Later that evening at a State dinner, the Queen stands up to make her speech and says "Mr. President, I was wondering if I should start my speech with...when I was here in 1776" and the room burst out in laughter. I am America but have followed the royals all my life. The Queen was something very special and had a dedication to duty that we are likely to never see again. I will miss her more than I can say. RIP Queen Elizabeth ll. You have more than earned your rest. I don't think it was just chance that rainbows appeared both over Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle shortly after she passed. I hope it meant that she was reunited with the loved ones she missed so much.

The missed the one about when the crown prince of Saudi Arabia visited (Balmoral I think) he was offered a tour of the grounds. He waited in the Land Rover with his traslator expecting a male driver to take him round ( as at the time women were banned from driving in Saudi Arabia). A few minutes later the driver door opened, in jumped the Queen and off she drove - and NOT slowly either. Apparently the Saudi prince was begging her a couple of times to slow down but she just responded by going faster.

The Soldiers of the Queen's Guard (Now King's Guard): five regiments - Coldstream, Grenadier, Welsh, Scots, and Irish. They rotate for the ceremonial guarding of the Royal residences and palaces. They are serving soldiers (much like the Sentinels of the Tomb in Arlington) and when not on ceremonial duty are out all over the world as needed.

The soldiers mentioned are the guard regiments, they are 5 different regiments the Scots, the Irish , Welsh , coldstream and grenadiers all designed to guard the monarch on top of their military roles. The hats are called bearskins.

Not sure if anyone has recommended this one but we just celebrated Her Majesties Platinum Jubilee this summer so check that out. There's tonnes to get through with a week of ceremonial parades and re the bear skins each regiment will have a different colour feather placed at the side of the hat which denotes which regiment they belong too. BTW do you have kids? if so they have possibly seen the film 'Paddington Bear' Highly recommend You watch the concert especially the opening scenes. Her Majesty was a very good driver - she served in the Woman's Auxiliary during World War 2 driving ambulances, if I have that right. She could repair vehicles, and drove expertly. She simply didn't need a licence as... all driving licences are given under the power of the Crown. She she said: "I can drive. Cos I say so." basically.

To be honest, I think during ww1 and wwll if you were in the military and it involved driving, you got your license that way, I'm not sure if her father would have issued a license to her,as he was the king at the time. whilst she was a princess, The Queen was an accomplished driver of heavy goods vehicles and ambulances, as well as being a very competent mechanic, she was also a very skilled motorcycle rider as well and during the war she rode a bsa 250. and if I can remember correctly, I did see ages ago where she was shooting rifles and target practice, and she was very competent in that as well.

I just checked , during 1936 and 1946 all driving tests had been suspended for obvious reasons, if you were in the military and you had to drive etc. You were trained and issued a driver's permit, outside of the military anyone could buy a driver's permit at the local post office but no test required, that rings true with me from many stories I had heard about people bunny hopping down the road etc. As they were self taught. Those that acquired a driver's permit before 1946 did not have to take a test in public after the war, but after 1946 everyone who wanted a car license had to take a car test first. And at that time, a license was only valid for 5 years at a time, so By the time the queen was crowned she didn't need to take a test or need a license.

She obviously didn't take a normal driving test (war years, as you mentioned) but once she became Queen, her "licence" was no longer worth anything. She became her own licence, lol. Same for Charles now - up til he became King he needed a licence to drive. Now, that licence is just "a piece of paper". The King IS the licence, and the Passport, etc.

My favourite story of the queen is the one where she is walking around Balmoral estate with her security officer accompanying her. She came upon some tourists (American I think) who were walking on the public footpaths, I'm not sure if they were hoping to meet the queen or were just walking. But when they met her they asked her if she was local, to which she said that she spent a portion of the year locally at a vacation home near by. So they asked her if she had ever met the Queen. With her self deprecating humour she responded no she had never met the Queen but her companion had on several occasions.... I wonder if the tourists ever found out the truth, though she didn't lie it is hard to meet ones self. RIP Your Majesty.

The Guards are regular soldiers and you can tell which of the 5 regiment's they are in by the number of buttons are grouped together. These have their buttons in groups of 3 but, sorry, I cannot remember of hand which regiment that is. The Guards are part of the Household Division with the mounted regiments. Their headgear is called a bearskin and not a Busby which are usually worn by the Royal Artillery (or the 5 mile snipers as they used to be called).

To his surprise, the Queen climbed into the driving seat, turned the ignition and drove off. Women [were] not -- yet -- allowed to drive in Saudi Arabia and Abdullah was not used to being driven by a woman, let alone a queen. His nervousness only increased as the Queen, an army driver in wartime, accelerated the Land Rover along the narrow Scottish estate roads, talking all the time. Through his interpreter, the Crown Prince implored the Queen to slow down and concentrate on the road ahead."

One of my favorite stories of Queen Elizabeth was when this Arab prince or shiek or whatever he was came to visit at Balmoral in Scotland. In his country woman are basically nothing and weren't even allowed to drive. She asked if he would like a tour of the grounds of the castle and he relied yes. When they got into the car to go, the Queen sat in the driver's seat and drove this guy herself to prove that women can and should be driving. The Queen drove all around the estate pretty fast using the driving skills she learned while she was in the military service. This prince was so scared that he had to get his translater to convey to the Queen that she should slow down. She didn't slow down, instead she went faster to teach this prince that women have worth. It's said that she carried on a conversation with him the entire time in a calm voice not listening to his requests to slow down. At the end of the ride, the prince was a little rattled and didn't stay too long after that. I guess she proved her point and taught that fellow a lesson. I guess she wanted to make sure he knew that SHE was a woman and SHE was the one that was in charge. That women have rights. Women are respected in her country, and that any woman in her country has the same rights as men do. Pretty badass move in my opinion. Oh, and by the way, this was in 1988 and the Queen was 62 years old at the time.

Get this, the intruder actually climbed on the rainwater drain pipes, broke a window and got inside. The complete mystery is, how on earth did he find the Queen's bedroom out of the 775 rooms in the Buckingham palace? And it must have been a mystery to himself too because at first he didn't recognize the Queen. Her majesty pushed the alarm button on her bedside, which... wasn't connected. Being the absolute master of small talk, she kept the intruder busy with that. At one point she asked him if he was hungry. He said yes, so she offered to bring him some food. Thus she exited the bedroom and alerted someone who called the chief of the palace guard,, who - being told that the Queen wants to see him immediately - decided that he cannot show up in front of her unkempt and proceeded to shave... All of this was a huge scandal, and following the incident the entire security system of Buckingham palace was overhauled. In a way it's lucky that it was a deranged man who did this, because a sane person could have stolen countless highly valuable objects which this guy obviously didn't care for.

The SA80 came into service in the late 80s early 90s. It was specifically designed to have less recoil than other combat rifles and the picture of the Queen firing the weapon shows it was in a vice like contraption. All Her Late Majesty did was to pull the trigger. This picture was taken about 1990 (I remember because it was the year I joined the Royal Air Force) so the Queen was in her mid 60 s.

The riffle in the photo only looks big against the Queen lol. Its a standard SA80 riffle and fire's 5.56mm rounds (Not big). The riffle is actually smaller than a standard AR riffle. Our boy scout's and army cadets fire these riffles a a very young age without issues. It has very little recoil m8.

The solidiers are the Grenadier Guards - the Queen's/King's Guard. The busbys are made from real bearskin and can be up to 100 years old & they're cleaned using ordinary shampoo. They've tried to find a fabric to replace the bearskin, but haven't managed to find one that can cope with bad weather. The reason they're that size is because they were made to make the soldiers look bigger to the enemy. The gold strap goes above the chin because the bearskin could break a soldier's neck if it were under the chin and the hat was to dislodge. The Guards also have a band which (on the Queen's request) played the Stars & Stripes outside Buckingham Palace on 9/11 and "Respect" on the day of Aretha's funeral. Both on KZbin.

There definitely soilders I was in the 2nd battalion Scots guards the training was brutal back in the early 80s there actually classed as elite soilders very highly trained and have fought in many wars and battles since the 1600 hundreds good video enjoyed watching btw the gun was an sa 80 very low recoil

3 buttons on Uniform & no plume (hackle) on Bearskin = Scots Guards. This unit saw action in many wars - last During the Falklands War. Scots Guards began its advance on the western side of Mount Tumbledown. During the course of the battle they Lead a bayonet charge on Argentinian defenders - which was one of the last bayonets charges by the British Army.

Specifically the Grenadier Guards are one of five Regiments that guard the Queen. The others are the Coldstream Guards, The Scots Guards, The Welsh Guards and The Irish Guards. All wear the distinctive red dress uniform and Bear Skin Hat. Each regiment has slightly differenced uniforms but the easy way to spot which regiment is by the small plume on the side of the bear skin. Grenadiers are white. Coldstreams are red. The Scots do not have a plume. Welsh are white/green/white. Irish are blue.

They are called the Brigade of Guards and I was one for 16 years, in the Grenadier Guards……and the fluffy hat is called a bearskin……lol just to explain….there are Coldstream, Scots and Irish Guards we all wear the red tunic etc….to tell the difference you can see the different button alignment on the red tunics, or on the bearskins, where the plumes are different colours also, keep well mate and keep up the videos

The hats the soldiers are wearing are called busbies - originally made of bearskin but these days of synthetic. Many armies used them in the 17th and 18th centuries, theoretically to make their soldiers look taller and more imposing.

The busby is, indeed, made from synthetic nylon fur. However, the short "hussar style" of the busby should not be mistaken for the much taller (46 cm or 18 in.) bearskin hats, which weigh 0.7 kg (or 1.5 lbs.) and are still made from bear skin and fur. The skins come from Canada. The bearskin hat is also worn by the Governor General's Foot Guards, the Canadian ceremonial guard that performs the Changing of the Guard ceremony at Ottawa's Parliament Hill each morning over the summer. The British Army examined a hat made from artificial fur proposed by PETA in 2021, but Army rejected the possibility of using the fake fur. The cost of each hat is approximately £950 or US$1,220.

The ones you see when you asked are 1st Battalion, Scots Guards - whose latest 2 battle honours are the Falkland Islands 1982 and Gulf 1991, and the served in Iraq 2004. The Guards are fully trained and operational infantry soldiers of the British Army - a rotating detachment forms the Queens (now Kings) Guard for ceremonial duties at the Royal Palaces. The red is there number one dress (ceremonial) and all units have them - but you rarely see them worn - the bands tend to wear No1's and soldiers often get married in them. The Bearskin caps are classed as a battle honour (Guards grenadier companies wore them, not the whole battalion) - taken for their actions in helping defeat Napoleons Guards (who all wore bearskins).

The Queen had an incredible sense of humour. I guess she had to have to be married to Prince Philip for 70 odd years! She was magnificent and I'm not even a Royalist. Even those who are anti-monarchy generally had at least a healthy respect for her as a personal and the service she gave even if they didn't agree with her position. You'd be hard pressed to find someone in Britain who actively disliked Her Majesty.

The soldiers are the Queen's Guard, part of the Coldstream Guards and there are several different units - hint: you tell them apart from the configuration of the buttons down the front of the uniforms. Everyone you see in ceremonial or dress uniforms (including historical dress) is an active serving soldier/sailor.

HI STEVE DEBRA HERE FROM SOUTH WALES UK That first picture did not look like the Queen, it looked a lot like the British entertainer Stanley Baxter, who used to impersonate her in his shows. Our late Queen had a twinkle in her eye which left you wondering what is she thinking about certain situations, she also had a fantastic sense of humour as can be seen during her jubilee concert earlier this year whrn she did a comedy sketch with Paddington Bear which was brilliant. Only the day before she passed away she met and greeted our new Prime Minister Liz Truss. Our Barristers were QC's (Queen's Councillor) they are now, of course, KC's (King's Councillors). The Queen even founded a new breed of dog when one of her Corgi's mated with her late sister, Princess Margaret's Dachounds and had the first Dorgi a cross between a Corgi and a dachshund! The soldiers were the household division made up of Grenadier, Coldstream, Welsh, Irish and Scots Guards and they do carry out sentry duty outside Royal buildings as well as being regular soldiers who go off to fight wars for Queen now, of course, King and Country.

driving on the left goes back to history when a knight would ride on the left so that his sword arm was free to protect himself. The Queen used to ride side saddle too. The soldiers are regular army and VERY well trained. They are the Grenadier, the welsh, the irish and the scots, Coldstream i think. You can tell them apart by the number of buttons on their tunics and the emblem on their busbys (hats).

Sept 12th 2001 the Queen broke 600 years of tradition to play the star Spangled Banner at the changing of the guard. she wasn't just a queen, the was THE queen and it's no surprise the Queen knows how to shoot. She was a Tank Mechanic in WWII

The driving license (driving is in British English, driver's license is in American English) is/was issued in the queen/now king's name, so it would've been self-serving (not to mention silly) to be obligated to carry your own issued, well anything really... including the passport, they always mention. Check out "Map Men" (a part of Jay Freeman, I think) channel, they might explain the driving on the other side issue, plus they have tons of information about the UK. This is your area of learning on this channel I believe, they cover A LOT of information, I find fascinating about the UK in particular.
