Benidorm is a popular town / city in Spain for British holidaymakers. I went there a few years ago. It’s got a reputation for working class British although in reality it’s not all like that, and the Old Town is really pretty (small winding streets with cute shops and bars). Nonetheless, the resort does have a lot of hotels with British holidaymakers with tattoos who spend all day drinking beer with their tops off. And that’s just the women! 😅

Speaking as a proud Brit I can honestly say I think our comedy and humour is the best in the world. Aside from our sketch shows and comedians which are also great , a lot of our great comedy is based around light storylines and getting to know the characters within the series , especially in the longer running shows. . It can be quite outrageous and off the cuff but it's not sugar coated , it's quite gritty , real and relatable. It doesn't look for canned laughter type reactions every 30 seconds or so but it hits you with absolute comedy genius from nowhere when you least expect it. This is the case in 90% of our comedy. Love watching your channel and your reactions. I might be wrong but I really think you get and appreciate our "eccentric" British humour ! Keep up the great work and I hope queen boomer is on the mend.

Benidorm is on the Mediterranean coast of Spain. It’s popular with British working class tourists due to the low cost of flights and the “all inclusive” hotels. It gets better as the series progresses, the first episode is establishing the characters. The show was popular enough to run for 10 seasons. A lot of the characters return in subsequent season, as much like real life, many British tourists come back to the same resort every year. Although there are some new faces over the years to keep things fresh. If I remember rightly, Martin (the guy with the miserable wife) can’t give her a baby because he’s shooting blanks. The Garvey family are kind of the main focus for most of the show’s run (although many characters steal the show, like the swingers, Donald & Jacqueline, and The Oracle (Vegas) and his mum/manager. It doesn’t get as dark as you think, so Chantelle hasn’t had a miscarriage, it was just the heat that made her faint. As they are a returning family, expect to see the baby is future seasons (the baby name is hilarious).

This one is worth sticking with. It is more of a comedy-drama than an out & out comedy. The setting means it has a large ensemble cast & characters come and go, so at this stage it's still finding its feet. It takes a season or so to really settle in, but keep going with the earlier episodes just to get familiar with the recurring characters, and you won't regret it. I'm sure others have said, but Benidorm is a resort in Spain that's very popular with British holiday makers.

Also, Benidorm is a beach holiday resort in Spain, pretty much exclusively catering to to the British, so much so that you can spend a couple of weeks there and not once try local food or culture.

They're in Benidorm, Spain. A cheap holiday destination. The hotel package is All Inclusive, which means that all food & drink are free, which is why they need to wear wrist bands, to prove that they don't need to pay for them.

When they say everything is free (All inclusive) it means the price of the holiday includes accommodation, food and drinks in the hotel ... P.S. Went to Benidorm a few years ago. It's not for the Spanish culture... But I must say, for cheap drinks, food, and excellent free entertainment, it can't be beaten! The hotel they filmed in the series 'Solana' is actually the 'Sol Pelicanos Ocas Hotel', and where the entertainment and evening meal is served is called in 'Neptunes' , in reality it is 'Morgans Tavern' located opposite the real hotel, around 50 metres down the road... Brilliant British Humor! Gets better and better! ....

Benidorm is a large built up resort in southern Spain on the Costa Blanca. Its very popular with the British and in part, is a bit 'rough amd ready!'

This is a side of British working class culture that many Americans probably don't realise exists - the annual budget package vacation to the Spanish seaside resorts. Benidorm got it spot on. Like all comedy series, this will grow on you - episode 1 has to introduce the characters. There are several good series, for me the very last one wasn't so hot but you've plenty of material to go at here.

I was an extra in benidorm did 12 episodes series 4 and 5 around pool, and in neptunes, The hotel real name is the pelicanos but called Solano i series, the neptunes bar was across road from hotel real name captain morgans,

this was the reason we went to Benidorm on Holiday ten times in a row. We saw them filmng this many times. All the locations are real hotels as is the kareoke bar. It should be viewed as a documentary as this is exactly what Benidorm is like in real life.

Benidorm is on the Costa Blanca in Spain. The Hotel in the series (The Solana) is actually the Sol Pelicanos Ocas. Benidorm is popular with the British, especially Hen and Stag Parties, due to the abundance of bars and clubs. The Old Town is quaint and more likely to have Spanish people on their holidays (Poniente Beach) rather than the Solana end (Levante Beach) which is multi-cultural. The older Brits tend to stay in Benidorm throughout winter due to the warmer weather and cheaper cost of living. I have stayed at the Solana and visited Neptunes Bar and it is pretty much as seen in the series. The writer Derren Litten, now owns a bar in Benidorm (Mateo's), named after the character from the series.

Altea is a small town a few miles away. Benidorm and Altea are like chalk and cheese. The posh couple had booked with a hotel in Altea, but were moved to Benidorm.

I have avoided this series for years, believing it isn’t for me, but happy to say that after your reaction, I liked it very much. Brits abroad (some) ER the same as when they live at home - the reference of “It’s like Blackpoll with sun” really sums it up. Benidorm was an extremely popular destination for Brits in the 70’s and 80’s…..even in the 60’s it was the place to go. I look forward to more reactions to this show, great, believable characters is always the basis of a good show.

Fun facts….the hotel is the Solana Hotel Benidorm which is an upmarket resort hotel in real life. Neptune bar is in fact Morgan’s bar about 2 minutes walk up the road. The lady Karaoke host was (I believe) the resident show host at Morgan’s bar at the time, so they used her as they liked her so much. Final fact Sticky Vicky is a real performer, and appears in person in a later series!…….I thank you!

Hiya King Boomer, I really enjoyed your reaction to this first episode of this hilarious British comedy show and i'm glad you enjoyed it! I love it. It's one of my favourite TV shows and it just gets better as the series goes on. The family from north west England are the best characters but all the characters in this really make the show special. Benidorm is indeed a real place :) it's a popular holiday resort town on the east coast of Spain, I love the place, I've been 14 times and it's iconic for it's nightlife, beaches and old town. Its a combination of New York City (as in its tall buildings and block layout streets) & Las Vegas (bright lights and entertainment) speaking of Vegas, Johnny is great in this, one of the best parts of the show and is in the first 3 seasons. There are 10 in total but the 1st 3 are the best. Please keep the reactions to it coming as often as it's possible.
