I have a teeny bit of trivia about that show (direct from co-host Steve McNeil who I got royally pis- er, drunk with one night). You know how all the guests came on to talk about their favourite game and then invariably sucked when it came to playing it? Well, it wasn't their fault, rather because of the setup there was terrific lag between the controller and the screen which rendered the games pretty much unplayable.

I met Dara after a gig in 2002, where I was cooking food in a comedy club and Dara was the support act for the strange and compelling American comedian, Emo Philipps. We were just standing around and having a post-gig drink but Dara - maybe as he's bald - was impressed with my thick head of hair and, after pointing it out to Emo, asked to touch it. A weird but true anecdote.

You should watch this particular standup show of his in it's entirety. He is one of my favourite comedians and he is a bit of a self confessed science nerd so his jokes are typically a little different from a lot of other standup comedians.

Dara's always been great in everything he's been in. He was one of the presenters on a kids programme called Echo Island here in Ireland. I watched it when I was a kid. He was also a regular guest on a panel show called Don't Feed the Gondolas and he was the host of The Panel, which as the name suggests, was another panel show. I watched both of those too. They were brilliant and were some of my earliest introductions to panel shows.

Dara is my favorite standup comedian. I'm so glad you got around to some of his stuff! He hosted "Mock the Week", a BBC show that took a satirical look at the past week's news. That's also well worth a watch. True story: I was watching the Guitar Hero bit on my phone while I was in the hospital overnight. The nurse walked in just as Dara said "You can always s*** a little c***!" Not what she was expecting to hear, I think.

Rockstar comes from my home city Dundee, in the first version the street names in the game were taken from Dundee street names

@@malcomkumar Yeah, I'm also a Dundonian so these things have always just jumped out at me. The references I can remember at the moment are from GTA2, Vice City, San Andreas, GTAIV and I've just remembered GTAV's reference. I can't for the life of me remember GTAIII's reference, which is really bugging me now. Anyway, the references are: GTA2 - The territory belonging to The Loonies gang is called "Sunnyside", which at the time of the game's release was the name of a psychiatric hospital which I believe was near Dundee, so I don't know if that would count 100% as a Dundee reference or not as it's near Dundee and not actually in Dundee. Vice City - A member of the band Love Fist wears a football shirt which resembles Dundee's away shirt at the time of the game's release. It's often mistaken as being an Argentina shirt but the shirt in the game more closely resembles Dundee's shirt than Argentina's shirt. San Andreas - I can't remember which clothing shop it is but in one of the clothes shop there's a shirt rack in the corner of the room that has a lot of shirts on it and if you stand next to it and you move the camera into a certain position, you can see that one of the shirts on the rack resembles an old Dundee United shirt, which I think is from their 97/98 season, which would makes sense as 1997 was the year when the first GTA game was released. GTAIV - There's a theatre in the city called the "Four J's Theatre", which is a reference to Dundee's "Three J's" (Jute, Jam and Journalism). GTAV - The Ten Cent Theatre is showing a movie called "The 3 J's" which is another reference to Dundee's "Three J's".

I believe that the mission in GTAIV that Dara is refering to is called "Final Destination" When this stand up was first performed I had recently completed the game and knew exactly what he was talking about. Now it is a vague memory and I had to look it up. You have to approach the target so that he doesn't see you otherwise yes, he will run away making the mission much harder.

I was also a big GH and BR fan. Had all the games from GH and all the games from rockband (up to RB3). On the UK release date for RB1 we got special permission from the local game store owner to turn up 1 hour before the store was open, so we could get the RB1full band setup and walk it back home before most of the shops were open (and therefor no shoppers or possible theives to take it from us walking back home) I was always the drummer.. To the point where i actually started taking drum lessons and ended up buying my own real drumkit. I have a bunch of videos of me drumming along to music posted in my YT channel :)

Must be in the Scottish genes. When my mates were learning to drive as kids in Edinburgh in the 70s we developed a scoring system for folks we pretended to be mowing down whenever we spotted them. Crocodiles of primary kids earned top points, while mobility scooters and mothers with pushchairs scored well. My best ever score was a gaggle of nuns...

King Boomer, if you want a good, underrated Irish sketch show then I'd personally recommend "Your Bad Self" which often featured Domhnall Gleeson, and had plenty of sketches on KZbin. Start with the "Lemonade sketch". The same group also did some sketches under the initiative "Immaturity for Charity" and Domhnall and Brendan Gleeson are in a great one called "The Talk". Finally, there's an Oscar-winning short film with the same two in it, directed by Martin McDonagh, called "Six Shooter" which is absolutely brilliant and can be found on KZbin.

I've never been much of a gamer. I only really played video games with my friends around, back in the 00s, as a teen. Sometimes I feel like the only person under 60 who doesn't game. I don't have a problem with them, but it's like drinking, I only liked gaming with friends around (online doesn't count), and I'm rarely in that sort of situation. I just never got hooked on them. They used to frustrate me if anything, I prefer to switch off and watch a show or listen to an audiobook.

It's Rockstar North, specifically, that has its HQ in Edinburgh - and yes, it's the division that makes Grand Theft Auto. It's a 20 minute drive from my house, situated at the foot of the extinct volcano called Arthur's Seat, and right opposite the Scottish Parliament building. What's funny playing GTA games is that they sometimes slip in Scottish humour, or play on words that pretty much only Scottish people would understand, so it's a blast finding those easter eggs.

Every GTA game is full of Scottish references. Like two bridges next to each other in San Andreas were the Forth Rail and Forth Road bridge which are just outside Edinburgh where the game was made, exact replicas. They put Saltire flags all over the place in every game too. Often they also name locations in the game after areas of Scotland. Sometimes things are even named in what are offensive terms only us Scots would even understand. You have no idea how often you'll miss out on Scottish references in GTA games. They are all over the place 🤣

The rockstar games which is the publisher was founded by 2 English brothers Sam and Dan houser and the publisher is listed as American as its studio is based in America.
