Interestingly, Polish culture is actually a mix of different cultures, but much more interesting, for sure the German influences were the greatest of the western ones, but the Ukrainian, Hungarian or Tatar influences, probably greater than the Russian ones, certainly lasted longer than the influences of this young, northern swamp empire ;)

Great Britain have a LOT to thank the Polish for, especially as they contributed to the Allied victory in the 'Battle of Britain' and other Allied air operations during the war. A total of 145 Polish fighter pilots served in the RAF during the 'Battle of Britain', making up the LARGEST non-British contribution. By the end of the war, around 19,400 Poles were serving in the Polish Air Force in Great Britain and in the RAF. Best wishes to all Poles reading this, somewhere 'down the line' your relatives helped save the UK and Europe from Hitler ! 🙏👍😌

My dad was the best swimmer, so he got sent down to retrieve the 'cargo'. He spent DAYS swimming down - he was Scottish and NEVER ate a turnip again! @@stephenpodeschi6052 your knowledge of WW2 is close to non-exisisting if you think Britain entered the war because Hitler invaded Poland lol Chamberlain and the conservative government saw Hitler's domination in Europe as a threat to the balance of power on the continent and as a result a direct threat to the UK. War was never about Poland, it was just a convenient excuse for Hitler to start an invasion and to proceed with his plans for nazi's global domination.

Thats how I explain Polands geographical placement and role in center Europe: Poland is the golden gate of central Europe. No matter from what direction into what direction u want to expand ur empire u have to (at least sooner or later) fight the Poles. And funny enough Poles got really really good at defending their lands - btw thats why Poland had one of the best and largest cavalries in Europe which included, as u know already, a very special cavarly type, the Hussars.

"You're in the middle" - spot on. It's a geopolitical, geographic curse for Poland. Civilization wise - Germany is byzantine type civilization (protestant), Russia is a turan type civilization (mongol) with some byzantine (orthodox) elements, Poland is a latin type civilization (catholic). So Poland is in between two other civilizations, rather than a product / offspring of the neighbors.

11:57 quite an accurate observation, but! Of these three countries, Poland is the oldest, then Russia, and finally Germany [EDIT] And as for the invasion of Poland, the Germans and the Russians treated Poland very personally, Germany hated Poland, and Russia still hates Poland and wants to destroy it, just like Ukraine. It's not that Poland stood on their way, the only country that Poland stood on their way was France.

He pronounced Łódź exactly as it looks. Unlike English, where spelling has nothing to do with pronunciation, Polish has precise and simple spelling/pronunciation rules. So ł/Ł is always pronounced like "w" in English "what", "ó" or "u" are always as Latin "u", or a shorter version of English "oo" in "boot", and "dź" is always as English "j" in "Jane", but in this case it is the last consonant in a word, and - in line with one of these pronunciation rules, such consonants become voiceless, so "dź" in the final position is similar to English "ch" in "coach" or "change", but a bit softer. You can learn those rules in a few days. And, of course, Poland is in Central Europe. 1. Geographically: the distance to western borders of Europe (Portugal) in much closer than to the Ural Mountains, which mark the border between Europe and Asia. 2. Culturally: the Polish literature, architecture, lifestyle, even religion, has been a part of the Western world for more than 1000 years. 3. Politically: Poland is a member country of EU, NATO etc. The only period when Poland was part of Eastern Europe was between 1945 and 1989, after the Yalta treaty of 1945, when Roosevelt and Churchill betrayed Poland and sold us to Stalin. If we hear someone insisting that Poland is in Eastern Europe, we think that they are ignorant, arrogant. Or both :D The most widely accepted theory about these crooked trees says that - centuries ago - there were deformed in this way because the lumber was used to build ships

That system was called nobel democracy with all its advantages and disadvantages. Anyway Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth with all its freedoms was dangerous abomination for countries like Russia ,Prussia and Austro-Hungarian monarchies with imperial ambitions with absolute power of rulers. That's why country which could incite resistance by example had to be destroyed by these three powers at the same time (there were three partitions of Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth before it ceased to exist).

1:45 Take a map of Europe and make a cross to find the center. It will be in Poland or on the Polish-German border. If you include quasi-European countries such as Azerbaijan or the Terrorist Soviet Union, then the center will be on the Polish-Lithuanian border. 6:04 There could be much more beautifull castles but the mos of them was destroyed in WW1 and WW2 6:13 Polish flag is not "red and white" but white and red. The color white is used in heraldry to represent silver. It also means water, and in terms of spiritual values, purity and immaculateness. The red color is a symbol of fire and blood, and of the virtues it means courage and bravery. 11:57 NEVER SAY THAT LOUD NEXT TO REAL POLE! You're asking for trouble. You can say: if Pole have two kids and they have totally different mentality - they would be Germany and Russia. 14:07 There are consonants too, like: cz, sz, dz, dż, dź. Polish language is (according to UNESCO) one of most difficult languages in the world, right next to chinese. 14:28 This young man's phonation is not correct. It's wrong but more easy to say. 14:43 It is true. Many Pole speaks polish like Australian speaks english. 15:01 It's private TV created by a man who is not very Christian but very greedy, for old people who believe his lies. 20:41 Turoń is local holiday. I've heard about it but never seen it. 21:31 But in Poland nobody heard about him :D 22:32 Her real name is Marie Skłodowska-Curie. In France husband's surname was spelled first, and she stopped to use her maiden name years later. However, she received the Nobel Prize as Maria Skłodowska-Curie. 22:38 Father of Nicolaus Copernicus was a Pole from Cracow. He was born 19 february 1473 in Toruń, which was occupied by the Teutonic Knights until 19 october 1466. So, don't say "he was technicaly German". 23:41 Poles understand Russians but hate them. Cause of enough reasons. 24:59 As long as Hungary is ruled by people like Orban, there can be no brotherhood. 25:52 As long as demented Kaczyński and his secretary, Duda, rule Poland, the country is regressing to the Middle Ages. From what I see it is marked well. On the left side, only missing, but I forgive. This is Silesia that divides For lower and upper. Poland, trying to divide this region, inserted the Opole Voivodeship and the Upper Silesian region merged with Lesser Poland.

Im Polish and I have to practice few times to get to the tounge twister that you did quite well ;) also, yes our "recent" history is of being invaded but for years before that we were doing the invading, for some reason even in Polish schools we are being presented as this country of victims. We did some bad shit in our time as well. also also... the younger strongman that you were referring to is that Krzysztof Radzikowski?

Poland got a ton of influence from Germany, Austria and Russia. Especially as the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth basically collapsed on itself, and many of those traditions disappeared or got adapted into a mix with German, Austria and Russian

Influence is an understatement ;p Polish culture was very distinct from German and Russian, but during partitions there was forced russification from the one side and germanization from the other, there are still visible differences between parts of Poland that were occupied by each of those countries. Of course Poland was influenced to some degree by many cultures, it used to be very diversed. For example in 15th century Poland adopted Magdeburg rights and invited many traders and workers from Germany, so cities and vocabulary related to cities were heavely infuenced by Germany. Influences from the East came from Ukrainians and Belarussians, Russia also adopted many customs from those nations, but Russia itself didn't influece Polish culture, it forced it's culture on Poles, communism years were also devastating for Polish and whole eastern European culture, it ereased many traditions and because of Soviet politicy countries from the eastern block seems very similair to each other in many aspects.

You kinda right about Poland being cross between Russia and Germany. We are Slavs like Russians and have many similarities, but at the same time we were taking things like religion, technology and mindset from Germany and west. I personally see it as we are taking the best thing from both of our neighbours. Also years of wars and occupations had huge effect on that. At some times we were under Germany sphere of influence and at other times Russia. And of course sometimes both at the same time. Do this day Poland is split. The more west you go the more German influence you can see and if you go east you will see Russian influence. It affects not only architecture but also mindset of people, the way of their living etc. In every elections there is distinct split between conservative east and more liberal west.

17:21 "that's every country" - yes, but in Poland you'll literally take beating if you insult poland and you're not Polish. I've seen situations like that, when otherwise chill atmosphere totally erupted into a violent storm after some guy said something wrong about Poland. Also there was a popular musican, very much liked who lived in poland and sang in Polish, untill he recorded a song with a sentence like "I hate Poland" and although the whole meaning of the song was totally different and actually presented some ways of thinking of Polish people on this exact subject, he became the most hated artist and his career ended just like that. We have a really special mentallity. We usually hate each others or at least don't care about each other, but in a time of need we turn into demi-gods and work together so that nobody can destroy us. We are rather peacefull with no imperial aspirations, we only want to live peacefully and desire a better life for ourselves. We have the most common word which describes our mentality - "narzekać", meaning "to complain". We complain just about everything BUT from that springs our desire to fix those things we complain about. We complained about our roads, said they were the worst in the world. Now I;m pretty sure we have one of the best roads in Europe, still not enough of them, but it's night and day compared to what it was just 20 years ago. Same with how we complained Poland is dirty everywhere, the streets were dirty, the buildings were crappy, forests polluted with thrash. You don't see this anymore in most parts of Poland and I've heared dozens of foreigners speaking about how Poland is the cleanest country they've seen. And of course we always always complain about how other nations are more rich than us, how salaries are way lower in Poland than for example Germany, England. NOW our economy is better than British economy and we have a chance to become the next world's superpower, despite being small and relatively poor. We never give up, never surrender, never let anyone else tell us what to do, never leave friends in need, never refuse to help, our hospitality is known to be the best in the world. We have so much contrasts i nour personality and in our country, yet there are no other countries who are this united in times of need.

The Sudets haven been living around the borders of Poland (?)Germany, Austria. Its actually around the Borders of Cheoslovakia and around the 2 WW they had to leave to the other countries..depending on where they were living close to. But even then ...if you were living a bit left or right you could have been transported to Germany. There is a saying in my family..without that Sheep shelter area whichbthey possesed back then ..my Grandfather could have become German. Some of our families far away relatives are in Germany.

19:25 You can't ask Poles about Silesia because they have been teaching them in schools for 100 years, That Silesia has always been Polish and this is totally not true. Silesian language also has a different syntax of the sentence, it does not have such letters as "ę ą ó etc". Unfortunately, the problem Polish concerning Silesia is that it is the richest region in this country. In the census, despite not recognizing the Silesians, it turns out that there is an average of about a million people who consider themselves For Silesian nationality
@TheRezro
@TheRezro Жыл бұрын
To put it simply. Silesians were Poles living in the at the time Germany. It lead to creation of independent sup-typoe of Poles. But in opposition to Kashubs what are actual minority, most Silesians don't consider themself as separate nation. Though there is minority of weirdos who think otherwise.

16:52 - it was basically a president for life. At times Polish king actually had less power than currently US president has. There was a part of time where King only operated personnal belongings and Polish Fleet (that was laughably small). Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth was basically USA style republic before USA that named their presidents kings to claim diplomatic benefits from being monarchy, like royal marriages, personnal unions and similar.

And we broke russian communism, and now we are in middle of breaking german economics. As do "is not personal poland is just in the way"... its not 100% truth. Poland is huge flat land.
