Neymar doesn’t get the €220mil they paid that to Barcelona as a transfer fee, his salary is a separate amount negotiated in his contract upon agreeing the move from Barcelona. Transfer fees always go to the club you are purchasing a player from not the individual.

Exactly. There are also signing bonuses given to the player by his new team but that is a separate thing and it's not mandatory to the deal be made, that bonuses can be higher if the player is a free agent exactly because they don't have to pay the transfer fee

Ow ffs. 220 million was given to Barcelona by PSG so PSG had permission to offer a contract to Neymar. 1) Club offers money for a player under contract of that team. 2) Club accepts the offer. 3) Player discusses contract with potential club. 4a) Player accepts the new contract and his club gets paid. Good players are more than 50 million these days. 4b) Player does not accept the contract and decides to continue to stay at the club. The club does not receive any money. Yes, the player is the one with the power. Human rights are a big thing in Europe, you can't just give players to other teams. The price tags of player have nothing to do with their income. It's the clubs that gain that money to reinvest. Wages for top players are around 400k/week. For players like Messi and Ronaldo at their peak it was closer to 1 million/week. That's only club wages without bonusses. It's common to get for example 50k for every goal. KDB gets 65k for example for every goal scored.

Sheffield Football Club ( Sheffield FC ) is recognized by the FA and FIFA as the oldest football club. It was founded in 1857 by Nathaniel Creswick and William Prest, the club established the Sheffield Rules which became the first set of official rules for the game of football. The Sheffield Rules even influenced the rules of the FA. Sheffield became a member of the FA in 1863 but continued to use its own rules. The club finally adopted the FA’s rules in 1878. This team revolutionalised the whole game and its impact on the world. Sheffield FC and neighbours Hallam compete in a friendly what might be the oldest football fixture in the world. In 2004, Sheffield FC became only the second team in history after Real Madrid to be awarded the FIFA Order of Merit. In 2007, the club was inducted into the English Football Hall of Fame.

In the 1966 world cup N.Korea beat the mighty Italy which was a massive shock . England won the final against Germany 4-2 and the third goal was very controversial in that it was very difficult to see if the ball crossed the line but the Russian linesman said it did to the anger of the German players. Geoff Hurst later said that the fourth goal was him attempting to kick the ball out of the stadium to waste time but it shot into the goal.

Why no London clubs??? Well, Blackheath FC should or could have been part of the original football league, however as 'Hacking' became outlawed, they decided to go with the alternative code and later became Blackheath RUFC. How much truth there is in this I am unsure but I have seen it from numerous sources.

And many other towns/villages in England play "mob-football" - places like Sedgefield in County Durham. They are like a mass-brawl with the young for men trying to score the winner for their team. Such games require shops to shut (maybe board up their windows) and basically the town or village will effectively close for the day. Often the town/village games last for hours, involve hundreds of people and lots of the participants may suffer injury. They often take place on Shrove Tuesday or at Easter.

You're idea for a special cup for triple winners is typically American and cheapens Brazil's achievement. America kept the Americas Cup (yachting) after it won three times and that trophy now resides permanently in America. I think it's something to do with foundation of the sport and traditions and it's also something that can never be taken away or detracted from....which, I feel, is what your idea would do to the history of the tournament. Incidentally, Brasil has now won 5 and Germany 4.

Connor, modern Golf originated in Scotland as Cricket as we would recognise it is Engish. One thing of interest is, the first international cricket match was not between any of the current big 'Test Match' cricketing countries. In 1844 it was between the USA and Canada, at the St George's Cricket Club in New York. And Englands first oveseas tour was against the USA, fifteen years later. The Canada match, pre-dated Test Cricket by nearly thirty years!

To be fair, in the 1950 games when the US and Spain defeated England, it was just a few years after England had been through the Blitz. Football for like a decade prior to then, would have been a distant consideration for many of them. All that said, it is quite ironic that even though modern football was developed in the UK, we all pretty much suck at it. At least the male teams do.

About the match between Germany and Austria, that knocked out Algeria: Austria and Germany still had to play the last game. Austria had 4 points (they counted 2 pts per win back in the day) Algeria had 4 points Germany had 2 points In case of an Aus-Ger draw or an Austrian win, Austria and Algeria would go on to the next round. But after Germany scored 1 goal, both teams just played really slowly and didn't attack anymore. This can't happen nowadays, because the 2 last matches of a group are played in parallel, so noone can calculate the points and rig the game.

Try a reaction to the story of Bert Trautman. The WW 2 German paratrooper who after the war became the iconic Manchester City goalkeeper. Famously breaking his neck during one match but continued to play the match till the end and even making some good saves....with a broken neck! See the footage and you can actually see the guys got something seriously wrong with his neck, but plays on right till the end. Balls of Steel. Lol, at school I was playing footie and broke my ankle, I'd had a broken leg before and knew it was bad, but the teacher thought I was faking it and made me play on for the whole second half. Last lesson of the day, gym/football, by the time I got home my ankle was the size of the football. My dad took me to hospital and it was badly broken, worse because the teacher made me play on. My dad should have sued him, but this is NE England in the 1970's, such things were unheard of. It was just tough luck and Geordie attitudes were stop crying like a baby and get on with it.

No the start of Rugby is down to William Webb-Ellis. They were playing football (soccer) at Rugby public (private) school. Webb-Ellis was no good at football (which requires skills) so he picked up the ball and ran with it. Everyone tried to stop him and so Rugby was born. It was very much a upper class people's sport....exclusive and still has posh overtones about it. I think it was 1840's when it was invented and formalised. The saying is, football (soccer) is a gentleman's sport played by rouges. Rugby is a rouges sport played by gentlemen. My own opinion is, people who play Rugby are fatties and public school boys who are no good at football. I think this probably applies to Webb-Ellis and he did what he did out of frustration at his lack of skill.

The U.S.A. has quite a good record against England in football and you may know that they meet in this years world cup on Friday,it should be close and i would not be at all surprised if USA wins .I would also not be surprised if England win because it is one of those matches to close to pick. A surprise would be Germany being beaten by Japan which happened of course or Argentina being beaten by Saudi Arabia . It is likely however that the final will be between two of the more traditional giants. Though Greece did win the Nations Cup [European nations] one time by concentrating on a strong defense and occasional break away goals.

X Team Vs Rest of the world happens from time to time. Most people expect the "Rest of the world" to win but the truth is the real team normally wins because they are used to playing together. At least from the games i watched.

PSG bought Neymar from Barcelona and Kylian Mbappe from Lyon. It's Barcelona and Lyon who get the transfer fee, not the players. Yes, the richest teams can buy the best players, but neither PSG or Man City have won the champions league. Having the most money doesn't guarantee success. It's how that money is spent and how the club is managed that will determine success. Lots of money just really helps..

They created for the 1970 WC. Before that a player couldn't be sent off. Substitution wasn't allowed either. In 1966, for example, the Portuguese beated Pelé so hard that they need to carry him out of field. There is footage of this, and also of him playing with a knee injured in that match.

North Korea did better than expected and was only defeated at quarter final stage by Portugal at Goodison Park. This was big enough for the Dear Leader, who expected them to win the tournament, with team members mostly ending up in prison camps

Correct again i was half shocked that governing bodies did not stop the whole event after so many migrant workers died working on the Qatar infrastructure but as i have said money combined with greed and corruption and the self interest of politicians and the fact that it did not make headlines for as long as the deaths continued says much about the societies we live in today.

In domestic games in the UK before the yellow and red cards were introduced, the referee used to write the offending player's name in a notebook to indicate that a warning had been issued. If they were sent off, I think he just told them and pointed off the field.

It was invented in England though. Or at least, if you are going to have the view that it was a 'British invention' then the telephone, television and many other inventions from North of the Border must also be British inventions, not Scottish, and I think many Scots might disagree with that notion.

The country knows oil is drying up so it’s diversifying and buying new businesses and stuff to keep hold of their wealth as the world goes green
