Jemmy - crowbar. But Grandad thought he said "Jimmy" which is cockney rhyming slang Jimmy Riddle = piddle = a pee. So that's why he said he had one before they left home.

BBC back in the day had so many weird rules (probably still does), mostly due to being, in a lot of ways, an institution meant to produce propaganda in support of the vicious British class system of the time. I remember hearing that The Young Ones only had a musical act at one point because doing so automatically made them a "variety show" under BBC rules, and thus immediately gave them a budget bump.

I hate when characters intentionally step on broken glass, it's one of my pet peeves as well. It makes no sense, but is probably a tradition that started in radio dramas, which relied more on sound effects to tell the story. Radio was still very popular in the UK at this time, so a lot of those cliches crossed over into television.

Hi Mandy 😀 It must be so difficult trying to understand English, especially with colloquiums, cultural references peculiar to the UK and in this case, Cockney-rhyming slang. "Grandad, do you want a jemmy?" refers to the tool used to pull floorboards up, but Grandad mishears Del (for comedic effect of course), thinking that he asks if he wants a 'Jimmy'. In rhyming-slang, a Jimmy is short for Jimmy Riddle, ie a Piddle (pee). With the thick London accent as well, it isn't easy to understand, so you did very well! See ya x

The first joke about a jammy, a jammy is a tool what you use to get nails out. Grandad thought Del said Jimmy, Jimmy is Cockney Rhyming Slang for piddle (another word for peeing if you don't use that in the US). So quite simply Jimmy Riddle = Piddle. KZbin video titles are just the fooking worse.... For example... A 6 year old girl makes a 50 yard basketball throw. A kitten Sneezes and farts at the same time. Man makes 20 pancakes in under 30 seconds. Rally Car flips over 3 times loses a wheel and carries on driving. Woman in white pants coughs and shits herself while waiting for a bus. Drunk Asian argues with a horse and get's kicked in the face. KZbin and the way it's search engine works, or did work, meant you had to put words in the title that would be searched for. So now because the kids watching YT are now no longer kids and are making their own videos still use that old style of video title. That's why most titles are spoilers. So when I see a video with the title, "8 year old Kung Fu girl breaks a stone with her head", I really don't need to watch it. But 50 million idiots without imagine did need to watch it. "An 87 year old italian lady tosses a pizza base in the air and does 3 backflips before catching it".. I'm sure that is a good video to watch but I know what happens. lol
