I was at school from 1969 to 1983, my son from 2004 to 2020 and I can assure you that slavery was in both generations a very well established topic, including the role the Netherlands played. How this lady comes to the conclusion is wasn't is a mystery to me. And blackface is not black Pete. Black Pete nowadays is the driving force behind Sinterklaas. A force for good. In my youth it was a bit doubtful. He could either reward you, or obduct you to Spain, you never knew. But as I never saw a black person in my life at that time, I did not associate him with black people. I saw him as a kind of mythical figure.

That we don't learn about slavery in school is not true. I did learn about it 40+ years ago. The role the dutch played wasn't denied at all. Another thing in the video that's not accurate is that only Amsterdam has coffee shops. Every town has at least one. Because of video's like these Amsterdam is being flooded by tourists and the rest of the country feels we don't exist when it comes to tourism.

When I was in netherlands I saw Black Pete, and asked someone, and they said he wasnt supposed to be african but covered in choal... is it true?

@@audhumbla6927 It is true, it is the story we tell the kids. In contrary to what many foreigners believe, Black pete is the friendly helper of Sinterklaas. Too bad it's taken over by foreigners as racist, as if we intentionally want to be racist. Most cities have rainbow pete's right now, only in the south and east you can still see Black pete, since they don't think it's racist.

@@paragon1361 Ok thx for answer. yea thats one of many downsides with globalism, traditions and other cultural expressions go away or get washed out, because now everything anyone do has to be accepted by everyone in the world.. without context.... Too over sensitive society. But yea rainbow or sooty Pete is cool to, the clothes is what make it really :)

In the late seventies and early eighties they taught me in school about the Dutch slave trade and all the horrible things we did and they even showed us how slaves were transported and this made a big impression on me! 😪 It's a very black page in our history and we have a few of those! ☹🤷🏻‍♂️ But they didn't really teach us anything about the Dutch Indonesian War, luckily i heard a lot about it from my dad, because he was stationed there for 3 years, it was our own Vietnam, before Vietnam was a thing! ✌🏼 By the way, we had a Sahara sandstorm last week, happens almost yearly, they even advised everyone not to wash their car for a few days! 😁

That whole Fipronyl with the eggs scandal was sad all around. It still held such a small doses per egg that you would have to eat an abnormal amount to actually be at risk. A waste of so many eggs.

Dutch coffeeshops specifically sells weed, it isn't a shop were one drinks coffee and can buy some weed if you'd like.

Ok i think black piet is wrong and we dealing with that. But wat tehy say about slavery is wrong, we all learned about it. But keep in mind we never have slaves in Netherlands europe. VOC and goverment did so many slaves wrong and a lot of normale (poor) Dutch didnt know it. same as saying black. still can´t say it in Dutch ( my mother kicked my ass if i ever said it) We learned a lot about slavery and even more about colonising, because that is what we did most.
