The English tabloid papers write that the current English team lineup is the strongest ever. 2. The English tabloid papers predict that England can win the European (or World) Championship. 'It's coming home'. 3. England plays and qualifies for the knock out stages. 4. England loses a knock out stage match ~50% chance they miss a penalty shot. 5. (= after the arab spring took away the north african dictators), think genocide in ruanda, think starvation, think of an ebola pandemic that could have spread. - what can you do to stop that: have contracts with dictators like Ghaddafi (which they did). - however that contract with Ghaddafi may lead to conditions for migrants that are massively worse than those in Xinjiang. So basically 5 minutes, my friend. I saw the best England team in my lifetime (Better than 1962 and 1966 which I saw ) in 1970 go 2/0 against Germany in The Quarter Finals only to lose 3/2 in the 90 mins...the last 51 years since haven't been too clever either but tonight 2/0 or 2/1. TONIGHT IS THE NIGHT*** *** You will find this prediction, miraculously, disappear should we get eliminated :)

A nice, light hearted presentation. Loved 'the Colonisers' part! WELL DONE - actually called it FOOTBALL - we play with the foot, that's why! I'm a Brit, so a tad anxious for tomorrow - 'favourite' or not, we haven't 'arrived' yet, and unless we shift up a couple of gears, .... 'nough said. Footy's been brilliant this evening - Monday. Croatia and Switzerland have taken the game to 'the big guys' - well done to them.

SoGal, he's referring to the multicultural content of the French team while referring to the English as "a white rose", implying that the English team is a team of white dudes - and ignoring the fact that Reece James, Tyrone Mings, Kyle Walker, Jude Bellingham, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Marcus Rashford, Bukayo Saka, Jadon Sancho and Raheem Sterling are all of mixed ethnicity.

The best that England achieved in the Euros was way back in 1968. They were knocked out 1-0 in the semi-finals by Yugoslavia. They beat Russia 2-0 in the match for Third/Fourth place to finish 3rd.

Love the cameo on N'golo Kante, one of the heroes of Leicester City's Premiership title in 2016. Leicester is a much smaller club than the giants of the English game like Manchester United and Liverpool, and in a smaller city the activities of the players are much more public. When Kante was at Leicester most of the players turned up for training and matches in Porsches and Ferraris. Kante used to arrive in a Mini, and it wasn't even that new. When asked about this he did reflect on his playing heritage and said that most kids in Africa have nothing. A car, any car, is beyond their wildest dreams.

In the Euros only few nations make it to the tournament, about 32. Behind the World Cup this tournament is one of the most prestigious. It was postponed last year due to COVID and the reigning champions (Portugal) and runners up from the last Euros in 2016 (France) have been eliminated

Well, look on the bright side, the final can't end without at least one goal. The rules literally won't allow it. If there isn't a winner by the time the 90 minutes are up, they play for 30 more minutes. If there still isn't a winner, both sides take 5 penalty kicks. If there *still* isn't a winner, then both teams have to take *as many penalties as it ataks* until one team scores and the other doesn't. I hadn't seen this video before, but it *is* pretty spot on, except the fact that it overlooks Germany as one of the teams likely to win. And, where international football is concerned (especially in the Euros, but to some degree in the other continental tournaments and in the World Cup) there's a fair amount of just poking shameless fun at the other teams involved. Up to and including references to one of the World Wars, or some of the lesser known wars. The comentators obviously have to be professional and therefore aren't allowed to enjoy this, but it is pretty close to the banter you'd find in an average pub where a match is being shown on TV.

When he mentioned France's diverse team, he was referring to France's colonial past. They colonised most of northern and western Africa, and other non African nations. They were not very nice to their colonies. Most of the French national team consists of players from immigrant families who came from France's former colonies (now known as Francophone countries).

The 2 best games of the Euros so far were todays matches. It was Croatia - Spain 3-5 and France - Switzerland 3-3 (4-5). Sometimes finals can be fun to watch, but usually they arent the best matches of the competition. And this is true for all football competitions, not just the Euros. In the finals usually both teams are more carefull, they dont really want to concede a goal, so the game is a bit more defensive. The teams play more safely, with minimal risk. If you want to see a really good game, i highly recommend to rewatch todays France-Switzerland. This game has it all. Headers, magical first touches, insane long range goal, penaltys etc. This is all i love in football.

Spain was in a very similar situation than England is at the moment before their winning strike between 2008-2012. They had great players but we always got knocked off at the quarter finals, and we hadn't won anything at all for decades. England just needs some good results that can boost their confidence as a team, cos they indeed have great players. All the ingredients are there. Best of luck, although I'm obviously rooting for Spain :3

I did meet an American in Nashville who really knew his football, way better than me, but he’d grown up playing it (I played rugby and hockey mostly)
