The reason your burgers were not spicy is so you can taste whatever you are eating i.e chicken or beef. In the States they add spices to mask the taste of the chlorine in the chicken or growth agents in the beef.

I’d say that in general, burger is used in the UK to define the style and presentation. If you were to request a chicken sandwich in the UK you’d likely receive some form of cooked chicken (most probably slices or chunks of roast chicken) between two slices of bread along with whatever else you have requested or is noted as the filling and with a little salad and maybe some crisps on the side, where a chicken burger, you know it’s likely to be either breaded or battered, more often than not one large piece served in a burger bun with established condiments and or toppings, the side will almost always be some type of chips, fries or wedges too. Oh and dryers are purely about personal preference in the UK. I live on my own and don’t really feel that I have a great need for one but pretty much everyone else in my family has one. To be honest though, if both the temperature and wind strength are in that sweet spot (which happens more than you’d think here), it doesn’t take that much longer to dry things outside on the washing line than it does to tumble dry them. Which is better for both the environment and your clothes etc…it also eliminates that chance of shrinking woollens by having them in the dryer for too long on too high a temperature…though it can increase the chances of stretching them if you don’t hang them right.

Your hosts have a lovely Northeastern accent. It is generally reckoned not to be an easy accent to follow. Did you realise that Wallsend is literally tne end of Hadrian's Wall, built 122 AD? Much of the eastern end is buried under Newcastle-upon-Tyne. (By the way, you should sometimes say 'Newcastle-upon-Tyne'. This is because there's a fair-sized town (city?) further south, in Staffordshire, whuch is called Newcastle-under-Lyme.

Burger definition from Cambridge University Press: meat or other food made into a round, fairly flat shape, fried and usually eaten between two halves of a bread roll. That, my friend, *was* a burger. Order a sandwich, you'll get bread.

A fair few houses in the UK have a 'Utility Room' which contains the washing machine, tumble dryer, sink, and in our case the downstairs toilet too, but where space is more of a premium yeah kitchen is the usual spot for washing machine. If you ask for a chicken sandwich in the UK you'll get chicken in 2 pieces of sliced bread.....

If it comes between two slices of bread it is a sandwich (we did invent it) and if it is in a bun it is a burger or barm unless it has chips in it then it is always a chip butty.

when you drove through Tynemouth town centre with the tynemouth priory in the distance , that is where Jimi Hendrix used to buy chips , theres a blue plaque on the chippy window and he ate them on a bench overlooking the sea

The boiler would need to be on for the radiators to come in. In the summer some people turn it off and use an immersion for water.

At 3:30 in your video you can see the Spanish City amusement park. It and the north east coast feature heavily in the Dire Straits song "Tunnel of Love". Mark Knopfler grew up just up the coast in Blyth.

In the UK a back yard is usually a small area at the rear of a terraced house enclosed by brick walls with just concrete underfoot. That's where the washing line would be to dry your washing. Also somewhere to park your bike. It might even contain an outside toilet!

I don't think the garden / yard terminology is as different as some people think. It's simply that 99% of British have grass & plants. So they absolutely fit your definition of a "garden". Admittedly a lot of the time it's totally neglected or overgrown, but you'd very rarely see a yard with no vegetation behind a UK home.
@TrevM0nkey
@TrevM0nkey 28 күн бұрын
you'll see lots... a 'back yard' is what you'd refer to it as in an old terraced house due to the size and that there's no garden area or room to have one. If you're down South then your explanation would seem right, but if you're up North you're more likely to be close to numerous factory towns with rows and rows of terraced houses.
