So the reason they started laughing right of the bat was because he was the quintessential Kiwi (New Zealander) in Australia from the very first. Pretty sure he is Maori but he might be Samoan but the slang that he used and Carl was referencing was Kiwi all the way through. So it says "Aussie hero" because he lives in Australia but he is nothing but pure Kiwi.

One reason Aussies love Kiwis is we think they're very laid back. "Too many weights, not enough speed." is a reference to a line in a NZ movie: Once Were Warriors. It's a very serious piece of work, heavy going at times.

That movie took something from me I'll never get back. I watched it one time and never again. Once we're warriors? Once too many for my soul can't unwatch that shit but every older Maori hates it even more because they don't like it but for many its a fucking autobiography. Super fucked in context that karl joked about that line.

Kiwi is NZer… or an almost blind nocturnal insectivorous bird… in this case he’s a kiwi lol… We used to say aussies swallow vowels after they start to say them and kiwis swallow them BEFORE they start talking… they’re two of the hardest accents to copy credibly. That attitude of “just jump in and do it” is fairly typical too… but then in many ways kiwis are like a mysterious mix of Aussie and islander… at each extreme they’re either scary as hell, or so dorkily adorable and sweet

Guys a Māori A Māori friend of mine said to pronounce it properly, say the word mouldy but leave out the D! Their accent always is quite sing song like they’re asking a question at the end of each sentence as the inflection goes up!
@kwerk2011
@kwerk2011 Жыл бұрын
Nah, leave the D in, but not a "hard" D. Sort of a "lazy" D, where your tongue barely brushes the roof of your mouth. It's the nearest you can simulate the difficult "rolling the R" which is what's required for correct pronunciation.

That is not quite correct. There are many situations one can legally carry a knife in Australia. In Queensland one has to be 18 to legally purchase a knife. In NSW it's 16. Laws relevant to purchase and possession of knives in Australia are State based.
