Ned Kelly was the first commercially distributed movie in the world. There have been about four versions where Mick Jagger acted Ned in one of them.

yeah I've watched a vid about that on here, it's actually kinda a cool watch (the movie itself), just for the history of film appreciation, corny but ground breaking

I think the Legend of Ned Kelly has helped shape the character of us Aussies, They don't call us the wild colonial boys for no reason . We generally mistrust authority and want to drag down anyone that thinks they are better than the rest of us and I firmly believe these Aussie traits were born out of our early treatment , it wasn't only the Aboriginals that were mistreated !

Ned Kelly is regarded as a folk hero by many. My great aunt always told the story of how her family were in the Glenrowan Hotel when Ned Kelly and his gang were there. She said they were ‘lovely young fellas, who’d been hard done by’. My colonial family lived in Violet Town, which is probably a day trip by horse and cart. They had travelled to Glenrowan to get supplies. The quote ‘Such is Life’ is reported to be Ned Kelly’s last words before the hangman’s noose was placed around his neck. I live in regional Victoria, not far from Beechworth Jail. Back in the day, it was a horrible and brutal place to be incarcerated. The Beechworth Township has many buildings from that era.🇦🇺

I live smack bang in the middle of Ned Kelly Country, I'm only 30 k from where him and the gang robbed their first bank and 18 k from where the first policeman he shot at Stringybark Creek was based.

The first Multi-Reel, Feature-Length Film ever produced in the World, was an Australian Film about Kelly, ‘The Story of the Kelly Gang’, released in 1906. Kelly was all of the above, Folk Hero, Villain etc., he did justifiable things, and things with no justification. His Story though, highlights the heavy-handedness of the Law, and the corruption of the large Land Squatters, so it’s an important Story in Australia’s journey away from British dominance. A side note, the Victorian Police, even though much better than they were, are still seen as heavy handed.

In one of the movies of Ned Kelly's life, Mick Jagger, who played Ned, was wounded by a gun used in the movie.

Those dollar amounts didn't exist at that time. In Australia up until 1966 Australia's currency was the Pound

Ned Kelly was a hero, and did have to support his big family (including a disabled sister) as there was no social welfare! Mistreatment of his mother and sister were the reasons he attacked the first policeman! He was called Robin Hood because he strongly supported the poor farmers against the large land grabs and injustice, he burnt the unfair mortgages of many struggling families while robbing banks! Many police at the time were also ex convicts and bullies, were certainly corrupt, and open to bribes! Poor Ned! 😪

if you saw the armour, you'd understand, just the helmet was super heavy, it's thick cast iron.

to answer your question, yes he gave to the poor, he did a few good deeds for his community, that's partly why people protected him

Going off an online calculator which I don't believe, $100 in 1923 is worth $4867.00 in 2025. So 30k but I'll assume it was a lot more than that in the 1800's My parents paid 7k for their first home in the country in 1971, new cars were around 1k

Every bank the Kelly gang robbed they took the deeds to homes & burnt them leaving no proof the owners owed the banks money. The people loved him for it, burning the court houses held records of criminal convictions and statements resulting in many inmates being set free from the corrupt Vic police who are still the most corrupt in Australia. Ned Kelly is a legend and I proudly wear a tattoo if him & his final words before being hanged "Such is Life". Yes i have a southern cross tattoo and my post code on me too, im a true bogan that drives a V8. 1980, 100 yrs after Neds passing & the yr Bonn Scott Passed (AC/DC), I popped out.

So good on you for learning about Ned Kelly. You might like to see Pauline Hansons version of Albanese ( Aus Prime Minister) trying to do a documentary on Ned Kelly!!! It's called " woke cinema". My favourite of her series!!

Listen to me dude. If you like Ylvis, you HAVE to react to «pie jesu» at gullruten. They had pause entertainment in a norwegian award show. All the Norwegian celebrities and the prime minister were there, and it was broadcast live on TV. This just shows how crazy and fun those brothers are, cause it takes some balls to do that. And it is one of the funniest things I have ever seen from them!

i'm furious at this crappy representation of ned kelly, they can't even get his armour correct. if you want a better history of ned in this cartoon style extra history did a really good job. at least watch them because this one was complete crap. and fun fact the very first feature length film was made about ned kelly.
