Yes, after three years and half over here, I can confirm that Austria is lovely and amazing. I adore to live here, to pay taxes here, to have money back for my continuous education here, to have friends here and - soon - to ask for an apartment here! Even the bureaucracy is long but clear. And if you want to go back to university, the cost is absolutely ridiculous. Plus German is just so logic and beautiful, the way the Austrians pronounce it is musical, with so many little particularities... I cannot wait to let my Canadian husband to have the permanent residency in Vienna to enjoy with me the incredible lifestyle of this Country.

I'm looking forward to visiting very soon, perhaps this summer in June/July. For any Austrians who are curious my surname is Troutt, or Trautt.

I am an Austrian living in Australia since over 20 years, and I thank you for your insights. You have definitely caught the real meaning of "Austrian". I am still struggling of making real friends, what we Austrians consider as something normal, is definitely impossible here in Australia, people are superficial in regard to friendships, impossible to really get close to them. Australians a very friendly, don't take me wrong here, but only on the surface, impossible to really get close to them, I am not the only migrant that has experienced this.

yes, beer is important here. and i notice that when coming home from a business trip to Arizona or vacation in thailand. in those places the beer is like cold water with a strange taste. in austria it has a certain richness in taste similar to bavarian beer. that is home to me. beside that there is a lot of great wine too but not the designer wine with high volume output but more with individual characteristic that never gets boring.

The Wiener Schnitzel is traditionally made with veal. The Wiener Schnitzel is a veal cutlet (veal legs) breaded with flour, then beaten egg and breadcrumbs. It is traditionally fried golden in lard and served with a wedge or half of a lemon. The Wiener Schnitzel is one of the most famous specialties of Viennese cuisine and is considered the favorite dish of the Austrian population. "Wiener Schnitzel" made of pork is not called "Wiener Schnitzel" in Vienna, but "Schnitzel made the Viennese way."

7:12 "Tracht" is the specific garment in (especially) southern Germany/Austria, which reveals the origin of the wearer of the traditional costume. Depending on the costume, one recognizes the origin of the wearer. Traditional costume is the clothing of the indigenous people of Germany.

Mohnnudeln are 2 inch long, finger size thick stripes, tipped off on both ends made of potato dough. you cook it in water, then put molten butter on it and then the ground puppy seeds on top. But the best Austrian sweet is Germknödel no doubt about it.

Thank you for the nice and respectful description. As an Austrian I think you've nailed many typical spots of our beeing and feeling. At last one point about the difference between German and Austrian feeling: For a German 2+2 ist 4. Point. No way for other solutions. In Austria it's also 4, nur in some cases 2+2 can be 5 too, If the solution is ok for everybody and closes or ease the case in a human way

Your observations is great. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 You have seen through the soul of the Austrian. One thing I‘d like correct is: in Austria we pay more attention to politeness. Germans would greet or say goodbye to strangers saying „ Tschüss“ This applies in Austria if you know the person rather closely but hardly to strangers. An elderly guest in the restaurant or coffee house would address a young waitress or resized in a formal form‘, because it calls for etiquette. Thanks for your excellent appraisals of the county’s mentality, nature, culture, standard of living, transportations.

I think there are awesome things about almost every country in the world. Some not so cool things about Austria: We have the highest Women murder rate in the whole EU, the people here chill about nothing and take everything very serious, people here are often very racist and our politicians think we are more like a son of the super rich hungary (sarcasm) :). Cool things are the awesome working laws, paid holidays, paid national holidays, when you compare bureaucracy in the USA with the one in Austria, it seems like it's super fast here and the food here is not gene manipulated :).
