Bakkies Botha provided the mould for an Eben Etzebeth and RG Snyman. He glamorized the enforcer role and they perfected it

Bakkies was a great tackler as well, he put in killer hits in loose play and clean outs and had enough speed to put in many try saving tackles too. His partnership with Matfield as a locking duo became stuff of legend in Springbok rugby lore.

Bakkies says he retired because of the extra HD cameras that the TMO's got. Says he couldn't hide his "tricks" any more, and would get a red card every game... He now runs a successful butchery called, Bakkies the Butcher... Maybe Kurt-Lee Arendse can give him a hand now and then....

Whats up QSN? Mad love again for how much you've learned in such a short space of time my guy. Interesting fact you might not know. In the ruck at about 12:30 mins, Matfield is doing something that has now been outlawed. It was called rucking or more accurately raking. In those days, if the player was on the floor, and slowing ball on your side, you could literally step on him with your boots and get him out but raking the hell out of him with your studs. Its since been outlawed and now the Ref basically polices the ruck situation on his own. It was brutal and guys had marks like they were in a fight with Wolverine. It was legal and very much part of the game. Just a cool Easter Egg there for you ❤
@QSNgg

Nox my brother! Much love as always, my friend. I appreciate you and all of your support and friendship. First of all.. im a big fan.. thank you for the hard work As a proud south african, I wish there is more footage from back in the day to show how good and tough those guys were/are I went to the same school as Bakkies and he played fullback until he was 17 in the 3rd team of the school( thats where the awereness and speed shows). He eventually got too big for that position and they moved him to lock. The rest is history Have you heard of the man Sasha Feinburg-Mngomezulu(excuze my spelling😂). Young star at the springboks and I believe he will be the guy making out new gameplan and coaching staff look good alongside grant williams amd others

As you submerge yourself into South African stuff it's time to learn some lingo. Greet viewers in your next video with "Howzit", derived grom English "how is it ... going with you", sort of like the "Watz-up?" Of 1990s USA. When something unfortunate happens say "eish" pronounced phonetically "aye-sh" from local African languages. For example, "Eish that looks painful, its going to hurt in the morning. " Finally "Lekker ", pronounced La-ker, meaning very nice/ great / candy from Dutch settlers, also used commonly in German. Example, it's a lekker KZbin channel you got here. As you build up your team names there are the Storners (from the Cape of Storms), Sharks from KwaZulu Natal, Blue Bulls from the Northern part of the country. Lions from just south of that around Johannesburg, the largest city, and Cheetahs from the very agricultural heartland.
@QSNgg
@QSNgg Ай бұрын
Richard, my brother! The lingo is exactly what I needed to learn my friend. Thank you so much for dialing me into it. I have it all saved in my notes now and will continue to practice and learn So hopefully when I get over to South Africa, I will sound more like a native South African, then an outsider 🤣🤣 I appreciate you boss!

It's great that you prefer to see the skills and worth on the field in terms of play. As a South African, he was always a legend, but I never liked his shithousery. There was a lot, and sometimes it was embarrassing. However, he was an OG enforcer, and he won a world cup, as well as many other titles. Since then, Eben Etzebeth took the mantle as enforcer. He took the title of enforcer, without the embarrassing shenanigans bakkies used to do. Eben has shown that you don't need to do horrible illegal stuff to show how much of a force you are. If you want proof, then just look at how many yellow and red cards each player has received. Bakkies used to get off lightly a lot because the TMO and refs were nowhere near as stringent as they are now. Eben will end up with almost double the caps Bakkies has. He's already miles ahead. Anyway, love you brother, keep doing what you do, and come visit SA. We'd love to have you!
