In Australia they used to put 350 Chevy Engines in Jaguar XJ6's with either a GM Auto or Manual Gearbox. Making for a Great Handling Touring Sedan.

Could easily be twenty-thirty million really if they are all original and there is 90-100 of them. You'd think the guy could stump for a decent shed to keep them in lol.

As kids we would float down the river in kayaks fishing and try to peek into sheds (Barns) to see if the farmers had any cool cars we could buy! It was easier than wandering up and getting shot😂. I ended up with a WB Ute with a 4speed and 253 thong slapper for cheap after a "fishing trip". 👍

My Ex Hubby's family have their Dad's 1974 Holden Kingswood i Sedan in storage. It's all original, with it's original orange paint. It has very low mileage as they always drove the farm ute. The Kingswood only came out on those rare trips.

Back in 1988 I decided to rebuild my XY Falcon after blowing the 302 in it. My girlfriend's father sold me a 302 long motor he had in his shed. I had the honour to know a great gentleman who was in his later years but in his day worked on the team that created the XR GT. Still restoring old cars to perfection in his late 70's, he helped me tear down the apparent 302. I took the rocker covers off and saw that between the rockers was a 289 casting. I said a few choice words as I really wanted a 351 but with fuel costs back then, I had to settle for a 302. Now I had even less go go. My distinguished helper came over to see what the tears are about. He took one look and asked how much I paid. $400 was the going rate and that's what I paid. He smiled and said that If I take off the sump I'll find a steel crank and upgraded everything to cut the long story short. He told me I had a Mustang motor. He said it probably came out of a XR GT. He told me a secret that no longer maters as all involved would now be deceased. Apparently there was a delay on the new production line for the 289 and they couldn't get motors into the XR in time for the GT release date and for Bathurst. They called Ford USA who shipped out crated mustang motors to Oz and were fitted into the GT's. The tell tale is that the (eventually) Australian made 289's had the "289" stamped into the heads while the 'Stangs had the numbers in the casting and raised. He told me to get a Holly 650 on a raised intake. Tuned headers and that he'll find me a mild cam. He said that if I do any more, I'm just wasting money and asking for trouble. It turned out to be a 351 killer when needed and a eco shopping cart when backed off the go pedal. The motor was great but the real treasure was rebuilding my ride with a legend who I won't name. The good thing is that at the time, I knew it was an honour and I savoured every moment.

I have owned & driven Models starting from the 1960's up until 2001. 1 x XR Falcon 6cyl, 2 x XW Fairmonts V8's, 302 Windsor in each. 1 x XC GS Fairmont V8 302 Windsor, 1 x XD Fairmont 6 cyl, 1 x XE Falcon 6yl, and my last one right up until June 2023 was an AU11 Series Ford Fairmont, 6cyl. I just love FORDS. 😍😍😍 This video took me back to some wonderful memories. Thx IWrocker. ☺

I read that in 2011 GM surpassed 100 million small block engines, you would expect 350s to be the most produced. Although no longer fitted to new cars I believe you can still buy them as crate motors.

I spent all of my high school years and a few after that, living in this area. The chook shed collection was spoken about in whispers amongst us tappet heads. Some claimed to have seen them. Some claimed to know the person who owned them. It took years before the myth was found to be true blue. I also knew a bloke from Bald Hills who had every car he or his father had owned lined up in the backyard, from Model A and T's to a 58 Plymouth hardtop, through to HR Holdens and others. More than a dozen cars and a couple of ancient motorcycles. I dunno what happened to all those cars.

barn finds? in 2015 in France (not far from me) a full collection of car was sold by Baillon's heirs for 25 millions euros, nearly 27 millions US$ (95 cars and some were uniques or rare like a Ferrari previously owned by the french actor Alain Delon) one of my previous bosses had a Renault 5 turbo2 and an Alpine A110 "berlinette" in the barn where we used to park ambulances. i know a perfectely maintained Citroën ami 8 in a garage in the middle of a small 3000 inhabitants city (never restored only 1 owner) a french tv host bought a 2cv from the 50's in the 90's with only 2 miles, never registered (the buyer died between the purchase and the delivery, his wife who didn't had a driving license putted the car in a barn with a lot of precautions and only the rubers were good to be changed 40 years laters) in europe you can find strange things in barns like an old car, an old tractor (i saw one tractor from the 30's once...deep inside a barn) but sometimes WW2 tanks or even other oddities (like 2 prototypes of 2CV in an attic...in France in the 90's and at the same era people found a n*zis's weapons hideout in an underground quarry where we used to go when i was a kid) while restoring an old building (from the 14th or 15th century) a man found a box filled with gold coins dating from the renaissance era worth several hundred thousand euros (still in France) while restoring my birthtown's walls they found a 3rd century solid gold helmet buried under. nothing exceptional in Europe

350 chev was never widely used in australia. very few vehicles came with them only a handful of holdens had them like the monaro. plenty were imported and swapped and they were used a lot in speed boats and things like that. so they weren't hard to get, but they weren't even close to being as common, easy to find and cheap as windsors, clevelands, 253 and 308 holdens also not nearly as reliable but maybe that stems from aus motors being built for our conditions and a lot of the 350's being used imports or ex marine engines.

Although except for the boyfriends 1st car being Holden (he & I spent a weekend dropping in replacement motor btw) the rest have been anything but. My dad's boss, Des West, was a Holden dealer in Wingham, NSW and also a touring car driver. In 1967 he raced a Falcon XR GT at Bathurst. In 1968 he raced a Monaro GTS 327. In 1969 he raced a Monaro GTS 350, with a Peter Brock as his co-driver in his first Bathurst race. He also raced Valiant Chargers. Here is a video of the only known survivor of the first Australian Touring Car Championship in 1960 - a car my father worked on: kzbin.info/www/bejne/kIq6fouparN0rqs

By the time I was old enough to buy a car, these models were considered a little past it, and I couldn't make a case for one to my parents. They were old, rusty and poorly equipped. Even heaters and radio's were optional on the regular versions. I bought an XE Falcon with the 3-3 six and 4 speed manual. I found the engines performance and sound very boring, after 18 months of ownership, I had that drivetrain pulled out, and replaced with a Cleveland 302 and C4 auto. It's performance never matched that of earlier Ford V8's because of anti pollution legislation that applied to it, but it did sound great!

the host of the video is glenn everett he's done some tv work around street machines and muscle cars and has a youtube channel called glenn everett- master of machines where he test drives peoples aussie muscle cars and street machines, talks about their history, importance, significant features and what they are like to drive. his channel would be right up your alley ian. harry firth the driver that won bathurst in the xr gt falcon was replaced as ford works team boss by al turner an american drag racer. harry left and became the manager of the new holden "dealer" team in 1969 the dealer team is in quotes because hdt was actually fully backed by holden but it was hidden from general motors because they had a worldwide ban on motorsport after 80 people were killed at le mans.
