I love Benny Hill, he never fails to cheer me up! His humour was really universal and silly. A lot of his sketches involved him or the little old man trying to score, or at least to see boobs. A lot of very clever double entendres throughout his shows, and some decent slapstick. It's all just innocent and light-hearted humour, although some don't see it that way now.

He parodied Raymond Burr's wheelchair-bound TV detective Ironside several times. In one sketch his cigarette lighter broke and he asked his sidekick, played by a blacked-up Bob Todd, "Do you have any lighter parts?", to which Todd replied: "No, boss, I'm the same colour all over!"

Thanks for a great reaction. Not my favourite one by him, I prefer the shorter skits in fast motion that usually ended in a chase at the end of an episode, but he was good in other ways - very clever with words. From what I understand, he loved re-creating the look and feel of the silent movie genre, (where live sound affects and music were often played to them in front of a live audience) and mixing them with a twist of then modern humour. I read a really endearing story on his wiki page. He'd been a huge fan of Charlie Chaplin and in later life, he was invited to look round the then late Chaplins house by his surviving son. When they went into his private room, his son showed him a stash of video recordings of Benny Hill. Turns out Charlie Chaplin had also been a fan of his in his later years! This revelation apparently moved Benny Hill to tears.

@@lmcgregoruk Funny you say that mate, as a 64 yr old NZ born, Australian Aboriginal, I find Albert Hawthorn (Benny) Hill an absolute bloody blast, he along with Kenny Everett, Dick Emery, Warren Mitchell, and a myriad of others from around the Isles, gave us all a lot of laughter, without having to swear, regardless of what it was about, gays, blacks, and all manner of folk found them to be hilarious. Humour in any guise these days, is something that we have lost, because of a handful of so called intelligent people. People who are continuously offended at something, other than themselves.
