Miss this programme. Btw, been listening to a Jamaican radio station, and someone was singing about a 'snow white honkey'. It was quite hilarious!...

They are wearing mini dresses more in keeping with 1971 fashions rather than this clip from 1976, where it is done more for comedy effect.

It'd be impossible to make a show like that nowadays, the woke police would instantly stop it

I wish I was rich enough to make a TV channel or streaming service or both that for all non woke and non snowflakes which get past stupid ofcom so we get decent quality comedy Also maybe a social media that allows more freedom of speech and what post than others

I think this was a pretty uneven effort from Benny. The World of Sport was a real show that ran on ITV on Saturday afternoons for several hours, and its host was Dickie Davies who died quite recently. One of its features was the host appearing in front of people working at desks for some reason, and also that it covered some pretty obscure sports, because the BBC had the rights to all the big sports.

I do miss Benny Hill. There is another sportscast skit done by Ronny Barker, where he has to provide the commentary for a series of reels that get mixed up. It's brilliant.

A joke or two using East London cockney rhyming slang there. "Bristols" means "ti**ies" (Bristol City) etc. Almost all Cockney slang works like that. Basin = baby (basin of gravy). Bees = money (bees and honey. Box = noise (box of toys) etc. It's very obscure. Almost no Londoners know much of it. But "Bristols" is a common one, as it Trouble = wife (trouble and strife) etc.

That as area that does cockney rhyming slang is very small part of London, forgot landmark but was like all within half mile of it or something
@mikefoster6018 Жыл бұрын
@@mlee6050 It's most associated with the "East End" of London - an area including the borough Tower Hamlets plus and usually Shoreditch, and often others (depending on who you ask - it's not official). So maybe about 9 square miles. Aldgate Pump on the edge of the 'city of London' big business district is considered to be where it begins. Shoreditch doesn't seem cockney to me nowadays, as it's hyper-trendy and artsy (at least, around famous Brick Lane high street) with plenty to look at and plastered with amazing graffiti and sculptures etc. It also has a strong south Asian community. But I haven't explored all of it. As an aside, I got punched by a 'gypsy/traveller' kid in the back of my head at Shoreditch only two weeks ago, for photographing his horse and cart in Brick Lane!
@mlee6050 Жыл бұрын
@@mikefoster6018 okay unsure how cockney and cockney rhyming slang differ but heard Jay Foreman talk of that for cockney you have to be born within earshot of the Bow Bells from the Church of St Mary Le Bow in Cheapside, the East End of London Also I love if he made an interactive map with the maps he showed of London and the ULEZ zone, basically by telephone or postal and so on the London border is different
@mikefoster6018 Жыл бұрын
@@mlee6050 Yeah the Bow Bells thing is a tradition and perhaps a pride thing for that area. But they're miles away from the further parts of the East End which, as far as I know, can still have cockneys but maybe fewer of them (the Bells themselves aren't even in the East End).

That one was a little patchy though everyone loved it at time because he did a great impression of Dickie Davies, here's a good one, Benny Hill - Cagney and Lacey but check the original Cagney and Lacey so you've you a map of comparison and it becomes 50x funnier.
