The guy who wanted to shake hands with the man in the wheelchair and got up from the wheelchair is called Willi. He once had a TV show for children. The concept of the show was to ask questions the way children would. So he deliberately behaves like a child who asks questions without much consideration in order to convey that it is not bad to be in a wheelchair, for example.

The guy trying to shake the handycapped man's hand is Willi, he has his own children's educational show. Part of that show is Willi making a fool out of himself by doing seemingly stupid or insensitive things, as a way of opening the conversation (like "hey kids, don't do what I did, here's why")

I wouldnt say its "stupid" since the target audience is children. It seems stupid to people already educated on those topics but addressing it in a direct way as he does is a great way to get children who dont know educated. At one point youll have to have a seemingly "unvomfortable" conversation/interaction like this with them.

That’s not how I perceived it as a kid. I think it was more that he was asking stuff with the mindset of a kid, so without social shame or decency, which made him relatable for the young kids that watched his show. But it also made for some great meme material

I watched it as a kid and never thought anything of it tbh. All those scenes seem perfectly normal to children because they're less "sensitized" to certain topics like disability, so they don't think it's rude (it's simple curiosity). I've seen kids run up to a wheelchair user and ask them "why can't you walk?" with nothing bad in mind, they just want to know. The people in these episodes got the script before they filmed anyway (and they must've filmed dozens of shots for every scene), so they knew what they were expecting. Btw, he made a statment a few years ago clarifying all of that, and mentioning he has been running a charity to help people with disabilities for years.

@@robertbretschneider765 Most people propably got stuck in a waiting line, paid for that expensive call and never made it through into the show? And the answers aren't really that straight forward. Like an animal with just one "h" - how about "Hornisse" - which is an easy and obvious one. Instead they're looking for these nonesense answers, that no normal person would come up with. "Wellensittich" here serves just a bait answer, to get viewers to make a call.

The guy in the interview is Stefan Hentschel. He was a PIMP and Boxer in Hamburg, Germany. He passed away in 2006. He committed suicide by hanging himself in the Basement of "Zur Ritze", a Pub with boxing ring in the basement on the famous street "Reeperbahn" (red district of Hamburg/St. Pauli). The documentation "Der Boxprinz" (The boxing prince) was broadcasted in public TV.

The guy with the handicapped people is Willi Weitzel - a famous, german tv star, reporter and film maker. Extremly nice guy! I met him several times as I supported his charity project. He does an amazing job for explaining the world to the kids (and even me as an adult). This scene was unfair as it was put out of context! Trust me: all the kids in the video knew him and were very happy to see him live in person. In the last 20 years he won 17 awards for his work and child/life supporting programms! Not only in Germany! So: To cut a long story short: Don't make fun of him! He is a legend and an extremly nice guy! :)

The Boxer "Stefan Hentschel" was a former Pimp in Hamburg back in the 80s, he was one of the Big names in the redlight district here. He survived some assassination attempts and lost one eye, he endet killing himself by hanging due to depressions, Money and drug problems in 2006. It was definetly not staged, thats really the way he lived!

This phrase "why is there straw" is so famous in germany, nearly everone knows it. First it is a perfect example for the stupid dialogs in such movies. Another big one is from a movie of the same kind. The "action" is located in a station of a firebrigade and the guy calls out "alarm, alarm" and then the others bring in a bed, totally stupid plot. If you here someone calling out alarm alarm it is quite shure related to this one. Some german Twitchstreamers use it for their sub alarm too.

Most people know it, funny thing is, few people know the actual movie. It's called "Achtzehneinhalb 18". The male actor didn't want to be recognized, so he refused to remove his mask. However, the director, a bloke named Nils Molitor, really wanted to have this actor in the movie. So he figured, eh, screw it, if the movie's gonna be trash, let's make it really trashy. He basically pulled the dialog out of his ass to incorporate the mask. Well, he succeeded. Don't waste your time searching for it, unless, for some reason, you love trashy porn. In that case, you'll love it.

2:10 I thought that was with context? The Kids show „Willi will’s wissen“ (Willi wants to know it) looks perhaps awkward without proper context. But they often do scripted scenes where they show everyday situations and the possible blunder that could happen. So in the scene where he tries to give the man in the wheelchair his hand and afterwards explains, why he can‘t move his hands. And the show was a kids favorite, because it was ihmo more of a kids approach of exploring and find out to certain themes than adults trying to teach kids in this case the correct behavior. 9:19 I don‘t know if the context is missing here, but when you look at the use of gas in German history of the last century the warning sounds a bit awkward to me. And with his dialect it also sounds a little bit like what people of the former GDR would hear while trying to leave their country illegally heading West.

I know someone who is in a wheelchair. He once fell over with it on a curb. A pedestrian wanted to help and pick him up. My friend said (several times), "First the chair." The pedestrian obviously lacked the context of why someone is probably in a wheelchair. He dropped my friend again and said, "If you don't want to, well then just forget it," and left.

5:30 No, you dont want to do that. It was a scam that is now no longer legal. Calling did cost a ridiculous amount of money and it was impossible to get through. Usually you would only get a precorded messade like "Sry, we are at our call limit, please try again" and pay ~5€ for the call. The callers shown in the show were fake and would usually give very stupidly wrong answers so that the viewer would think their own answer isnt something everyone immediately thought of.

In that quiz show at 3:50, most of the calls were faked. These shows were broadcasted on a TV station named 9Live. They were known for their call-in gameshows, astrology shows and stuff like that. They signed off in 2011 (nothing of value was lost though). The answers were indeed quite ridiculous. Such as "animals with S" or something. The revealed solution would be something like "Spatz" (sparrow) and the answers (if there were answers at all) would be complicated stuff like "Stirnlappenbasilisk" (green basilisk). In case of word finding or stuff, they would sometimes show a board that had no solution, and when they did show the solution, one letter would change so it became solvable. Was entertaining to watch though, as you can see. My favorite was a crossword puzzle where they were looking for car brands. Revealed was a 5 letter name "VOL**". Now, every German would think "Volvo" (well known Swedish car manufacturer). However, it turned out, the correct answer was "Volga", an obscure Russion car manufacturer that stopped production in 2010. The correct transscription of the Russian name "Волга" would have been "Wolga", not "Volga", but eh, details.

The german word for "boy" could be translated to "young one". So he says "junge junge junge" (remember: no silent e, I have no idea why Ryan cannot pronounce it just say it fast: "yoongeh yoongeh yoongeh..."

The English exclamation "Oh boy" is the one and only correct translation for it in this case, otherwise it would be "Junger, Junger, Junger" anyway since it is missing the pronoun. Well, not only none native German speakers have problems with our grammar.

As a German I always find your reactions and comments very funny. You told there were some context to the videos but obviously for many things to understand you have to be German or at least live here. For example: The guy with the wheelchairs was "Willi" and he had a show to explain things to kids > Willi wills wissen = Willi wants to know it. He always acted like he knew nothing beforehand and as if he were surprised and then the people explained things to him. You have to see it in whole to appreciate the whole idea of the show. For every minute of your videos I could a couple of minutes to explain what's in that scene from a German viewers side... 😂

1:43 that’s from a show called “Willi wills wissen” meaning “Willi wants to know” where the point is that willi asks silly questions about obvious things to educate kids, so that they get common sense and he often does really ridiculous things. It is perfect to be ripped out of context and it is often done so, because out of context he seems extremely offensive (and it aged not well i guess).
