Christobanistan martin Freeman is in episode 1... if you read the comments from episode 1 then you will see that many people mentioned this and I imagine that the reason he said it before episode 2 was in fact because of the comments on episode 1..

This is my favourite episode because it is the epitome of British comedy. It's subverting your expectation, while taking you down exactly the route you'll think it's going to go, while still throwing in some hard-hitting twists here and there. For example, most people would've predicted that the second vase would be destroyed, or that the house would be blown up by Manny messing up the thermostat. Both of them were set up in the second act, following Checkov's Gun to the letter, but then never seen or mentioned again. The resolution was completely different.

It's the age old problem of being told before hand that you will like it/ it's the best one. If someone says that you won't enjoy it as much.

*_Dirty_* It's a good episode if it is potentially the last. But there are some great episodes if you do manage to do more in the future if it ever gets up there.

This episode is pretty good but not sure it deserves it's reputation as the best. The next two episodes: 'The Blackout' and 'The Big Lock-Out' are my favourite episodes.

There was a little man! I agree there are a couple of better episodes, at least for me. And there are a few episodes that I think he would enjoy more, as they are closer in style to the craziness and surrealness of the first episode.

Great reaction. Black Books is one of my absolute favourite shows. This is a great episode and one of my favs along with 'Elephants & Hens' (S03E02) and 'Manny Come Home' (S03E01) -Simon Pegg was great in that one. Hopefully we will see more reactions in the future. Cheers!

The problem with people telling that it's the best episode of whatever series, is that it will then never live up to expectations. I prefer to just let people discover their favourite episodes for themselves.

I would actually argue that "The Blackout", i.e. the next episode, is the strongest of the whole series.

Hi Noah, it`s so good to see these again. I don`t know if you have seen Bill Bailey`s (Manny) own stand-up performances, but if you get the chance, I think you will enjoy them. He is very musical & is therefore a rare comedian, as he uses it in his performances. As with this character, he is somewhat frenetic.

The Grapes of Wrath is definitely my favourite episode of Black Books- but there are many more in the series that deserve your attention!

Seeing Kevin Eldon (the cleaner) reminds me of Big Train and Jam, 2 sketch shows he was in which were just MENTAL. Jam in particular has some seriously dark stuff and created by Chris Morris. It only has 6 episodes. Also, I just found out now that Big Train was written by the Father Ted writers. So if you haven't seen either yet..you should.

Even if you don't do any more reaction videos I recommend you watch the remaining episodes. I've never seen another series like it and there are many more laugh out loud moments you will enjoy. Hi. As you like Father Ted and Black Books I think you would like The IT Crowd and Toast of London. .oth are written partly by Arthur Mattews or Graham Linehan (Father Ted). I recommend especially the IT Crowd episodes The Work Outing and The Dinner Party. All the Toast episodes are also brilliant.

Black Books takes a while to get into. I would never have said that the Grapes of Rath is one of the best episodes.. Give the show another chance. Show the episode The Entertainer. It is more accessible and very funny.
