Black pudding absolutely is a pudding, "pudding" describing the way it is cooked; steamed or boiled.
@JacknVictor5 ай бұрын
It's actually even more literal than that. The word pudding actually comes from black pudding itself, as the French word for it is "boudin" and the word itself was used when it was introduced here, and because of the way we would pronounce french words more phonetically to how they are spelt than how they sound in French, (they pronounce it more like "boo-dan") this became anglicised over the centuries to "bu-din" in England, which then becomes "pudding" as time went on. This word was then given to the type of bowls that the black pudding would be steamed in if no skins were available to use as a casing (the type of bowls that steamed puddings are now typically made in) so black pudding was literally the actual reason why puddings and pudding bowls are called such, and also they are the very first pudding to have been made.

For most people a full english (Irish/Welsh/Scottish) breakfast is more likely to be eaten as a brunch these days, unless your a lorry or delivery driver(they make their own rules) A fry up from any of the British countries is very filling and is commonly used as a hangover cure. You are right about one thing - the fried eggs have to be cooked last, and by the way laverbread is wonderful. The plate is one course; cereal or porridge is eaten before l, perhaps fruit conpôte or prunes and orange juice. Toast with jam/ spreads follow. Coffee and tea are both acceptable. Those are usually in the squash drink or the jam. Some people like orange marmalade which is like a jam with pieces of the orange zest in it, squash is a concentrated juice that you dilute in water. In Scotland we have a saying " as Scottish as a square sausage" this is a Lorne sausage and totaly fantastic. A Tattie scone or 2 as part of the breakfast are amazing. I love black pudding its very good for you with plenty of iron, it is a super food, i was very aneamic in my teans and allergic to iron tablets, so plenty of black puddng sorted that out. Only Smericans call black pudding blood pudding, it realy annoys me, im sure its done just to sound bad. Its like when they talk about Haggis which is yummy with neeps and tatties. The only reason the US does not have Haggis is because the way the US butchers animals is different from the UK's, guess which is cleaner. There is another reason we have a excilent breading and farming set up, which has been part of the Scottish culture for hundereds of years. You can get wild Haggis, farmed is cheaper of course but wild has a slight hint of heather in its flavour and its not so fatty. The Haggis season is very short, just 5 weeks long. Dont knock any of these wonderful foods untit you have tried them, they woll suprise you.

I can't say she sells it well, but go with the flow- it's breakfast! I agree with him that the eggs are better cooked in the bacon fat, but some purists will say that the cooking fat for the eggs be clean. Grilling is an alternative to frying most of the breakfast, except the eggs. And yes, many of us do drink orange juice (pure, if we can, not the stuff made from concentrate). The black pudding is essential for me, and white pudding if it's an option! And one thing to throw you as an American- yes, the beans may make you fart all day. But make light of it on occasions (there are some phrases we use regularly for that) and don't hold it in or you'll explode!

In fact nearly everything should be fried except maybe the beans and tomatoes (canned toms with juice), but I've seen people fry these too. Only people who think they're posh have sliced tomatoes and it does my tree in. Hardly anyone on KZbin uses canned tomatoes, I mean, what are they playing at? It's the sort of dirty trick they pull daaarn saaarf. For dressing it has to be brown sauce and a mug of hot steaming tea. Coffee just doesn't taste right with a fry-up.

If you're interested in the full English, you might also be interested in how the full English ended up including bacon. The story of the history of "Danish Bacon" also involves American and Russian wheat, German trade barriers, the Pork war that partly led to America shifting towards favouring free trade, and the reason "UK pigs" (those raised in Denmark destined for British tables) started being segregated. Not sure if there are any KZbin videos on the subject, but there are probably quite a few Danish Bacon TV ads since "Good bacon has DANISH written all over it". The default bacon emoji should be back bacon. Google says the French word for streaky bacon is "lard".
